DALI produces good stones for China architectures and statues. Yunnam is one of major places in China to produce Canola oil, the beautiful small yellow flowers in the big fields are Rapeseed.

Yes, It is more exciting when I see the place I already been in 2016. It was my first time visited China and never want to return to the US. I love the lake, villege and the people. Spendid architecture, not much for the greasy fries and rose cake, but better than Big Mac and Starbucks. Love the tea houses and a German berkery Cafe in the Old town. Have you visit LiJiang? To me, it’s like a heaven.

Last time when I was in Dali, I was chased and bullied by a bunch of monster geese, my friend and his bike fell into a ditch, and we got serious surburn at the top of Cang Mountain. but other than those, it was a fantastic trip, the scenery, the food, the bike ride, the hot spring... just superb!

@@kats_journey_east Actually it's like a 80 mins drive from Dali, a county called Er Yuan, there's a hot spring resort. The resort itself is so-so, but the hot spring is amazing. Er Yuan is where the source of Er Hai lies, the scenery is quite beautiful too.

Dear Katherine, I've watched many of your videos, and found one thing, that China is the safest country to travel on earth, especially for a young girl like you. Also, every place and even the remote rural areas are so clean and the people being so friendly and cheerful, exactly like you. What a girl you are,!!!!

I really hope your ultimate ambition is to showcase as many of China’s 56 ethnic minorities as possible. :D
That’s our goal actually , I am not sure how many years/decades it will take 🤣especially since some big minorities like the Tibetans can’t possibly be covered in one video , but we are working on it🌼

I burst out laughing at "rang kai... rang kai!"
I cycled around that lake before 2yrs back before the pandemic. Back then there were still some constructions for the cycling path going on. Now the place looks great. Time to revisit after China open it's border again.
I got into cycling in Dali, too. Did the Erhai loop a couple of times. Sold my bike when I left and now it’s so hard to buy a new bike with supply chain issues!

Was in Dali is 2015 and cycling along the lake. Stayed in the Old City of Dali and visited the famous 3 Pagodas. Now there are more development along the lake and car/motorcycles are banned in the inner roads next to the lake. Good idea. Dali old town and its surrounding area have a significant MUSLIM community who lived along the old trade / Silk routes . Like the roads which seems to link all the small villages along the lake. Cyclist paradise . Thanks for the Memories revisited. (PS:- Love the "Wack the Mole" 😅🤣😂

Katherine, would it be an inconvenience to you if you gave the temperature at the start of your so I can track your location with temperature should I ever get back to China again to visit one of your adventures. Life in a picturesque small quaint town like this one is how I foresee myself retiring in. I can’t wait to leave behind the gun craze wild Wild West life of NYC. As I comment here, another frightening shooting happened in Brooklyn, NY injuring over dozen people. This video brought little joy from a depressing day.

There's this catholic church in old town Dali, a full set of Baizu architecture elements with...well you know, the church. I ran into that interesting building two years ago, thought it was ancestor temple at the 1st sight.
That house is really beautiful at 9 minutes.

recent years, I visit Dali every year, stay for 2 month every time. explore lots of spots aroud Erhai along Cangshan. your video is the most original taste of Dali I have seen. is the realest feeling of local vibe. I love it.I have introduced your video in my video.
Oh if you guys are here for it, there is a weely (bi-weekly?) farmer's market in the Dali ancient town. There are a dozen people moving into Dali from Japan/Europe and other parts of China. Some of them run hostels while some of them bought land to grow their own produce. Just in case you are interested :)
Omg , we already left 😭we missed out😭editing videos takes forever so by the time a video comes out we have usually moved on to a new place , we are farther north/west in yunnan now !
Oh and the Linden Centre (I leave it to you to look up) and the marble that is carved out of the Cang mountain...omg I been stuck home too long, memories are coming back in bits.

Dali is such a beautiful place to visit with so much to see. Be careful though, I ended up with the reddest sunburned face when I was there several years ago and it was only February 🥵🤭 mad dogs and English men as they say! Great video, best wishes from 🇬🇧

Your comment about a stone lion's protection versus the pictures of stone lions made me think. I would guess a 2D image is only 20% as good as the real thing. Your & Wei's PDA was not annoying, lol. I love how you two travel all over & discover such cool juxtapositions of old & new (especially architecture). The image of the birds flitting over the yellow flower fields was lovely. Wow, I know all of these places, they have changed so much! The first time I cycled along Erhai about ten years ago, there were very few lanes, and lot of dust. Thank you for sharing, it brings back so many memories.

I too love the contrast of the old and new. It is interesting to see the old/abandoned right next to the new. I always assumed the abandoned village/buildings were far from the new settlements, just like in your previous video where you had to travel quite far to see the abandoned village...
Sometimes they are in the middle of nowhere , sometimes they are mixed into the rest of the architecture as with here and Yangshuo😁😁this place made it easy for me haha almost zero effort to find them 🤣

This village is so artistic and charming, a quaint beauty from a bygone era!
I like this kind of explorative travel where you can poke your nose around and get a deeper look at the scenes where a “normal” visitor wouldn't have the chance to see. I had been to Dali two decades ago with a tour group, but didn't have the luxury to explore like you did here.
I was fascinated with a very popular old movie of the fifties about the Bai people in Dali, “The Five Golden Flowers” (五朵金花). The songs in which still resonate till these days in Dali I suppose. Maybe you have heard of some of them while in Dali?
This is exactly why we don’t go with tour groups , they miss out on a lot of the good little details and also they are always focused on trying to get you to buy stuff 🤣🤣

Dali is one of our favourite places in China, we biked around the canola fields too. Shaxi and the surrounding villages is in our top 5 places on the planet, it’s glorious. Like a piece of ancient history. Recommend a visit if you can make it up there.

I love seeing you go all over the place. For me, I usually use a bag and take a small amount of soil or sand from that area and labeled it with the place and date on it so I can relive that memory.
