- Crowded House took to the stage at Gibbston Valley Wintery, Queenstown on a beautiful Autumn day, for the third gig of their 'To The Island' New Zealand tour. The new lineup had managed to record the main tracks for the new album in Los Angeles before getting shut down by Covid. They reunited a few weeks ago for rehearsals, and took the show on the road.
This is a particularly special day on so many levels.
1. because we can party and mingle in the knowledge that Covid isn’t loose in NZ. (Thanks to the leadership and efforts of the team of 5 million)
2. I have a long time love for the music of Crowded House dating back to Woodface and seeing them live in 1991 at The Stadium in Dublin.
3. It’s my Dad’s Birthday. Happy Birthday Dave, I hope this video brings some joy into your day, despite being in lockdown back in Dublin...it’s the 13th March here, and will still be by the time I upload this video.
4. I know so many Crowded House fans around the world who’ve had their gigs cancelled and feel incredibly bummed to miss out. This is my way of connecting with you. I hope you enjoy it.
I can’t help feeling immense gratitude to Crowded House too of course. Every time I think of each of these points it makes me happy/ emotional.
So much gratitude.
Thanks Neil, Nick, Liam, Elroy and Mitchell for a lifetime of connection through wonderful music. I think you guys are just as grateful to be free, wandering the streets and getting up on stage each evening during this tour.
Enjoy
Apologies for the sound peaking. New camera...testing it out, and didn't set the input volume low enough. Lesson learnt. Had a lot more footage to show, but out of respect for the music I can't do it. Almost threw this lot in the bin when I heard it at home (aargh)...there's no headphone jack on the Sony RX100 vii to check the levels.... but this is operator error. It's a great camera for lightweight adventures or GIGS!!
No copyright infringement intended here. All credit to CH for their original music.
Ah this gives the rest of the world hope that we will be back together in a sweaty crowd, bathed in sunshine, and being swayed by the power of love and music...
Thank you no matter the audio...................
Awww well done for getting the show on the road
Amazing stills thank you so much for this.
Fabulous concert A perfect day
Great gig, I was there!
Sure was. Seems to be coming up in their interviews as particularly memorable for them too. It was a perfect day in so many ways. Great vibes on and off stage.
Awesome! Great to see Neil still using the Vox! :)
Thank you so much for sharing this!😊😊😊
You're welcome Sharon. It almost went in the bin ...glad that you got something out of it. ;)
Thank you. Brought tears to my eyes.
Mine too. It was quite an emotional experience. Tears of joy kept welling up.

They sure sound great. That Finn DNA runs deep!
Thank you so much for sharing this. Wonderful.
You’re welcome. I hesitated. But glad I did.
Just seen them in Nelson - they sounded fantastic
I bet.
Me too, and yes they did. ^^
Great video! Looked like you had a prime position!!
Couldn't believe my luck. As I get older and crankier I'm loathe to go to gigs where I have to jostle for position behind someone 8 foot tall. But this was such a civilised affair... deckchairs, chilly bins... just incredible. I started going to Crowded House gigs when they were playing 1,500-2,000 person venues, and it lost a bit of the magic when it got really big. It was such a thrill to see them 3 times on the 'In My Room' a couple of years ago, in small town halls and community centres. Neil never stops resetting and reinventing the norm of whatever is normal with fame, keeping it humble and connecting as best he can. In my opinion anyway.
This is great! Thank you for sharing ✌️ can I please share this on our Fangradio Frenz page and Finn page Facebook with credit to you?
Of course you can. If anyone watching has access to the sound recording from the desk, I have about four times as much footage as you see here....and another edit could be in order.
you guys are so lucky that covid is basically gone in your neck of the woods...
Oh it’s hiding at the border, doing it’s best to get a look in, but thankfully some sound leadership and crowd participation has kept it at bay.
funny, i was already thinking...
Jealous.
Neil, come to the Lyric in Birmingham, Ala. Or the Alabama
That Fleetwood Mac guy goes well.
Please upload I GOT YOU if you have it???🙏🏻
Pretty sure I have it but the sound is terrible due to peaking levels.
