The syulen feels like a flying art piece. Ridiculously unique aesthetic for what is your first ship.
I think one thing people don't mention a lot is how amazing this thing sounds when flying it. It sounds like the ship is 'singing' back to you in some kind of angelic hymn or something. Good job sound team!
This! I love the way the engines purr.
Audio and visual in flight is amazing from 3rd person perspective
i think is starcitizen main soundtrack whole distorted...XD
I like the fact that the ship is simultaneously strange but also oddly familiar. It’s cold colors and stone work accents contrasts brilliantly against the cosy small interiors. And yet, it feels bigger on the inside. Absolute stellar design
I really like the vertical take off, it feels like you're about to be launched like a roller coaster. The stone detail is cool too, I like the idea of taking a bit of your home planet around the universe with you.
The take-off would be good for landing bays that you descend into
Yeah the vertical take off is nice, reminds me of old sci-fi books etc where the ship[s are literately "rocket" ships.
The syulen just feels like a breath of fresh air. A ship that has some actually distinguishable features from all others.
I am gonna tell yah about how building works, depending on what built something it may look like all the others, so in short if one person builds a spaceship the other ones will look similar, because we design based off what we are most familiar with.
exactly, this is the reason i wish we had more CO, origin, esperia, and gatac ships, other ships like aeigis or drake feel and look like what youd expect a ship to be like
@@ObsidianB8 Oh, come on, Origin is basically just space yachts
@@gian.4388 who doesn't like space yachts? ⛵
@@gian.4388and space yachts are sick
The Syulen is what I think the Oumuamua interstellar object would look like if it was a ship aesthetic.
It's the Forerunner dart ship at the center of High Charity; Forerunner and Covenant aesthetic.
To be on the opposite end of creative inspiration, but yeah.. same look.
Alien slave-1
Oumuamua is shaped like a turd (cilindrical). Syulen doesn't look like a turd. I just bought the starter package (first day playing SC), let me be happy with my new ship :)
You are about to embark on a very special journey, my friend. Enjoy. I'd give just about anything to be able to experience my first couple weeks in SC again. @@xtrevizex
It's Slave 1, if designed by the Halo Covenant.
I love the way they broke all expectation by doing something so unique
The Syulen being the only vertical takeoff ship is really cool. I hope cig makes more flying skyscrapers!
Pretty sure the coffin shaped object on the first floor is a space suit locker, which is why it is right beside the gun racks. The Syulen is fitted with an ejection seat. Also the button beside you in the bed will cause your character to get out of the bed, cause we need buttons to climb out of a bed I guess. I really wish the lighting/lock etc controls were more clear and understandable on the buttons, as I think most people fail to notice them.
I just love how different it is, it's novel yet retains some things we are used to. Very impressive
I wish origin did this more because origin is way to Sterile and doesnt have good lighting inside (interior) its way to cold not like the syulen that has beautiful ambient light + cool stone textures
Completely agree, Luxury doesn't have to mean sterile and white. It can mean a variety of things. Handcrafted and rustic, Artisan etc etc
Like I get it, but it could be so much more.
I love the design of the Syulen, and how different it feels to everything else in the verse. It really sets a standard for the aesthetic for the Xi'an, and I can't wait to see more of these ships - the Railen and maybe even something bigger
My favorite thing about the Syulen is the different types of lighting possible from the light switches. There's a cool orange lighting scheme in there that flickers like firelight, making the cozy interior even more homey. It also affects the HUD when in the pilot seat - changing the colors of the moving bands of light on either side of the cockpit.
The fire like lighting is so much easier to fly with then some other ships with absolutely blinding cockpit lights
I really like that CIG are experimenting with different forms, the vertical levels make this ship really unique, reminds me of some of the Mars habitat designs in its layout
The long tunnel with wings of most other ships is great and all, but sometimes we just need some variety
The way my heart flutters when I see the marbling on the wings of the Syulen is my favorite part. You describe it as stone but I always feel like it's a piece of a meteor carved out into a ship that reflects its shooting star origins. It's poetry, a haiku with lasers.
Sometimes it’s all about the aesthetic, and the Gatac Syulen accomplishes that with immense vibes
SC is mostly aesthetic, but I get you lol
I love the subtle curves on the inside of the ship. The purple hud in the flight seat is so perfectly done, it’s incredible!
The uniqueness in design and aesthetics of the Syulen puts the ship in a class all its own. I’d love to have it to explore the verse!
It’s really a new fresh air. I’m in love with the design of this ship.
My favourite thing about the Syulen is definitely little glowing lights glowing from the recesses. Reminds me of how Jelly fish glow from inside out similar to the placement of the lights on the Syulen.
That's what I was being reminded of! Jellyfish! Thank you! :D
I like the landing profile the most. Coming in and going through the little steps to be able to land makes the ship feel more like something that is piloted and powerful than something that you press some buttons to control in game. The feel of the ship, then, truly is something to behold, since its niche design aspects help complete the ship's connotation in flight and fight!
It's so reminiscent of a UFO (especially in the ship commercial) and perfectly conveys that subtle familiarity yet just outside the realm of normality feeling that you'd expect from alien design. It feels unknown and exciting and I think CIG hit the nail on the head. Great video Morph :D
That intro was amazing. CIG should ask you to make a trailer for one of their ships!
Morph just dropped the hardest Syulen edit in the first few second, man that is some top tier cinematography & camera work.
What I like about the Syulen most is that the engines kinda “sing” when you boost them above SCM speed. It is such a positive vibe 😊 Also, Pirate Swarm was easy to play through with the Syulen as it is pretty maneuverable even at higher speeds if you add some boost. It is really easy to get behind an opponent. You just need to make sure you recharge those boosters often. Great ship!
Ahhh yes. I was waiting for this review!
Usually I'm not too big on the alien ships, but the choice of materials on this one is absolutely beautiful! I love the marbling type look in the stone and hope we get more ships that play with interesting materials.
I've always loved floaty bits in sci-fi tech. Something about pieces of this high-tech thing you're interacting with just straight up not being physically attached makes it feel so very advanced.
I adore the use of color throughout the entire ship. The purple hues contrasting against the oranges in the interior and the reds of the exterior- especially so with the thruster array. The glowing molten red petals fading into the purple flaming streaks is just absolutely mesmerizing.
I really love how the Syulen has windows. When I am not flying it’s really nice being able to look out and enjoy the view. But my favourite part is the fact the interior is like a house. Most starter ships are like cars or camper vans but the Syulen gives me mobile base vibes.
As someone who has been really excitedly waiting on the Gatac Railen to come to game, I was overjoyed to see a starter ship from this new manufacturer show up. I think my favorite feature has got to be the cockpit UI. I love the colors around the MFDs and the seemingly LED-like outlines where the lights dance to break up the sometimes-monotony of space.
Wow the Syulen is now my favourite star citizen ship, would probably be reluctant to leave such a beautiful interior space. If I got one, would want to fly it alongside other xi'an ships one day
I’m exited to see more vertically oriented ships because it reminds me of ships from The Expanse 😊
Love the overall feeling that this ship gives off, makes you really feel like your in a sci fi universe
One thing I haven't tried but I think might be a good option for landing in the Syulen is using the back up camera. For those not familiar, there is a back up camera that is unbound by default, but can be set to a button. As long as you are holding that button down, you get a view that is directly behind the ship. On the Syulen, that makes the back up camera a landing camera. Something the community has wanted for ages.
The Syulen reminds me of my childhood playing Halo: Reach, its internal spaces in both lighting and design give me notes of Forerunner and Covenant design schemes and give a much needed change of pace to the rest of the ships of Star Citizen, which range from utilitarian grit to sleek but brutalist corporate. I can't help but feel giddy thinking about if I were to ever step in to the ship in VR and climb in to the chair, the feeling of being elegantly lifted upward by the hand like motion of the chair and its grav-tech to the interface at the canopy, it just would be so surreal. I guess the Syulen just makes me feel appreciative, and more importantly, safe, every aspect of its design exudes comfort and grace, making me feel at ease if I ever get in a dicey scenario.
The aesthetic of the ship is just so artistic
I really like the feel of "towering over you" from Syulen. It feels like a dad trying to be protective when you are next to the landing gear. I know this is weird but tall ship with embracing tripod-y landing gears excites me :)
We must construct additional pylons
I got one for the alternative take-off and landing. The Syulan has a huge advantage over all other ships when landing in a pit hangar because all you have to do is activate the rearview camera, line her up, and drop your acceleration limit down to around 20-30%. It can be a bit frustrating, though, to keep getting assigned to horizontal access hangars instead of pit hangars with this ship.
A penny-drop I hope to see is staggered hangar design allowing all hangars to have both vertical and ceiling doors to facilitate both types of landing/takeoff in design.
As always, awesome video @Morphologis!
The Syulen has become my go to hangover ship. Normally if i am repaying my happiness debt from a previous night’s activities, i cant begin to log in because just the thought of the background roar of a ship’s engines activates my gag reflexes and starts a pounding in my head but the soothing sound of the Syulen from takeoff through atmo and even in quantum quites that raging inferno of regret.
I think my favorite thing about this ship is how it looks in flight. It's really like something right out of a movie. Cinematic, just how CR likes it lol.
Such a unique ship, love its maneuverability.
I just wish the cargo grids were aligned diagonally so a 2SCU box could fit
I love the use of materials on the ship. The stone texture on the wings and inside the sleep cubby gives it a premium feel akin to the wood in a Bentley. This thing is basically a space Bentley.
What I love about the design is that you can see how the whole team really appreciated the opportunity to cut loose. In an era where each manufacturer is getting its design-language nailed down (Argo orange, Drake grunge, RSI Doritos with optional nacelles), this looks like the result of someone saying 'go nuts' and the team really showing what they've learned over the past decade.
I adore Xi'an lore. I don't know if - when AI Crew are introduced - we'll only have access to crew members from humanity, but it's a fun thing to imagine co-existing with Xi'an crew on a ship designed to accommodate both species. The different toilets and the inclusion of both English & Xi'an language being the two big examples (note that Xi'an excrete like birds and combine both kind of wastes together, and their toilets have been described as bird baths with a fountain).
Anything that gives me more insight into how the Xi'an are as a culture interests me. I really enjoy how they've made it look alien but not incomprehensible. The marbled stone material is a fantastic idea, and gives you an immediate intuition about how the Xi'an differ from humanity at a glance. Not just in terms of how they've developed, but it speaks to their lifespan (hundreds of years); the stone giving a sense of age. Even their religion centres around the concept of time. If you look at concept art of their settlements, stone is heavily featured, too, so I like how they've incorporated that.
It'd be a very interesting ship to have, especially to use when flying to the Horus system to have some dealings with the Xi'an. It's a flying symbol of cooperation, with Gatac Manufacturing being given exclusive permission to make ships available for the UEE, and they're known for looking to other species for inspiration for ship design, and pouring funds into research for a ship can function for both Xi'an and Human crew together.
and cuddle when you both sleep on only bed :D
Damn right.@@Dssfox
I'm absolutely fascinated with almost every alien aspect of this ship. Especially the unique take-off séquence and stone design.
I like the way the Syulen sings as it flies - they did an amazing job with the audio
It really does feel like a monolith. And as the classification indicates it’s a pathfinder. It’s designed to forge new routes and discover interesting sites. Designed for adventure
6:50 I believe that's a suit locker, not an escape pod.
It's next to the weapon rack for a reason.
I like this ship, but feel that it should be compared to the Nomad as well. Which is a ship that has more utility, thanks to its significantly larger cargo bay.
The insistence on this ship being vertical has led to each floor needing a lobby, and the lift, which leads to a lot of wasted space compared to just a corridor.
The lift also complicates the procedure for getting in and out, especially considering how lifts in this game like to reset to their default floor on their own, leaving you stranded on the top floor until you call the lift again. A problem that usually only affects ships like the 600i
Yes, it's a suit locker. Obviously an escape pod wouldn't have metal panelling...😂
@@TheBaldrickk I had issues trying to do any repair or refueling for my Syulen. I feel the Syulen got released a bit too early since it also can't hold mission boxes in its "bays". Quite unfortunate honestly and I hope they fix these issues rather soon. Maybe the latest hotfix did it, I'd have to look for patch notes.
I love the ship's design and this is the first ship from the Xi'an that feels like it's made for both species in mind but with a more Xi'an feel. Aopoa's ships are export models so their design, I think, is different to their normal, Xi'an counterparts.
The Syulen gives us a good idea as to how the Railen will be when it comes out and how Gatac translates their ships for Xi'an and human use. I wonder if we'd get a Gatac variant of the Khartu and San'Tok. Or if we'd see them at all, from a truly Xi'an focused manufacturer.
@@dragonsteamworks6675 I had some problems repairing it, but only in certain areas. After travelling to a different station, I could do it. This issue has plagued SC for a while now, and I really wish they would just stop breaking things that worked.
Or when they make changes, properly test them.
Yes it's an "Alpha" (it really isn't at this point but it's what they call it") but really, the only testing we should really be doing at the point we play is mission feel and load stability.
Issues like this should be solved in internal tests and ptu.
But they seem to keep making changes even after ptu that break things...
How many times did they break elevators?
@@TheBaldrickk Oh the elevators... I still remember when the elevator was physical before reaching its destination and could flat out kill you if you were near the doors. I've had it transcend my being into the station more than once.
I will agree that "Alpha" isn't a big enough defence anymore. Yes it's in a really unpolished state but by technicality it IS an Alpha because an Alpha lacks full functionality of what is expected from the full release. Betas are for smaller changes and general polish. This is what I can remember when looking up the terms.
Hopefully with the teams moving from SQ42 turning their attention to the PU, updates will be more frequent, substantial and impactful in all the right ways. I really want some of the FPS ones like loading ammo from your bag and ammo pooling.
That first transition with the sun is absolutely stunning
The animations as you enter and exit the cockpit are fantastic. I felt similar awe when I powered on the Prowler for the first time. Majestic. One thing I have been meaning to test is getting a larger cargo box and seeing if you can put a smaller box within on the outside of the ship.
I like the Syulen's profile when viewed from the front. Especially when it's in a roll, just gives off that "standard alien fighter" vibe you might see in retro space games.
has to be the silhouette while flying, completely unique.
The Syulen is just so unique and like nothing else in Star Citizen. Really has a great alien feel to it
It screams elegance and mystery, while providing a new and elusive shape to be seen flying through the verse. Very excited to see more ships featured into Star Citizen that follow these kinds of designs.
I absolutely love the vertical orientation of the take-off and landing with the Syulen! Gives us a reason to look at the angle and altimeter a bit closer. Hopefully this is an indication of CIG getting a bit more daring and bold with their ship designs!
best thing about the syulen for me was the cockpit view! such a good view
I love that the designers have completely departed from existing ship designs with the Syulen. It is wholly unique and is doing things that no other ship has done, which is a refreshing change. The upper deck has got to be my favourite; describing it as a cathedral fits exactly with the feeling it gives me.
Love the stone textures on that ship. Coupling that with the advanced grav-tech gives a nice marriage of old and new.
I love that the Syulen hints at Star Citizens ability to tell a compelling story narrative in their universe through their design. I think that elevates the overall project in exciting new ways for the future.
I love the style of it. There's something both majestic and truly alien about both the shapes and textures chosen for the vessel. With the swept wings and stone it's like you have a flying shrine to some unknown being.
I actually really love this ship, the first "innovative" design I use to do when making minecraft houses waay back when I was a kid was to make the space vertical, and work on designing the house in that kinda way, this deign almost makes me nostalgic for my past and my god its beautifully well-done. Thankful for the reviews as always, I hope you do the retaliator at some point!
I like the use of gothic design language, in concert with traditional "alien" color schemes and complex mechanical and gravatic systems, to create the feeling of a altar to technology and flight, with the middle level serving as a intermediate space with the feel of a backstage area, and the lower level having the feel of a catocomb-like cozy earthwork area.
I love how different it is, and I think I could learn to live with the take off/landing pretty easy.
Thanks for the nice slow and clear demo of the pilot seat entry. Other channels it looked a little rushed and I had trouble following exactly what was going on
This ship is so unique to the Star Citizen 'verse! I love the shapes, symmetry and the care the designers put into it, from the materials choices, the landing animations and all that lovely grav-tech!
A winner !
About the question on the video, the thing i like the most about the syulen...., is everything. I love this thing and it's insta my favorite smaller ship ever! It's completly complete with everything i ever dreamed about.
I love the floor lighting (yes, out of all the design this ship has to offer :D). The way that glass like material is glowing violet along the edges and smoothly diffuses towards the center is so cool.
The way the cockpit is designed and how you land the Syulen looks really awesome. Big Kudos to the Design-Team!
I really love the Syulen and want one so bad. I have been really waiting for a vessel with vertical, rocket style takeoff so that I can re-enact the launch sequence from Star Trek First Contact and that mixed with an actual alien design is just so nice. Plus the gravity tech is a really nice edition too inside and out. I am really looking forward to the future of this manufacturer because there is so many cool things they can use gravity tech to do
Also thank you for the review, your Star Citizen videos are easily my favourites, keep up the great work!!
I love how each manufacturer tells a story in the shape language and detailing of their ships. As the first flyable entry for Gatac Manufacture, it really is impressive how much is hinted at story-wise about the Xi'an, and House Gatac in particular. For example, the comparison of the cockpit to a cathedral-like space makes me think that the long-lived Xi'an might be deliberately communicating their religious focus on time through the use of space and the manipulation of gravity in a way that short-lived humans might feel if not fully understand.
It's a really fun combination of understatement and flamboyance: simple, at times severe forms and materials complement all of the complexity and energy applied to motion.
my favorite thing about the syulen is how it manages to LOOK the part with classic sci fi alien ship feel, but it does so by marrying good design practices with things that really are functional in the context of SC. very obvious on the interior, but even the exterior bits like the commplexity of how the engines look from behind - it all fits nicely once you break it down. great ship.
I like that the direction of travel is perpendicular to the floor. It reminds me of the Expanse, where they use thrust for gravity, and I love that this ship took the risk to do something so different from all the other ships in the game.
I would love to see more of these 'unusual' ships in the game, especially bigger ones. Loving the verticality!
Sitting in this ship feels like you’re in a NASA rocket, getting ready to take off. I really like how this advanced ship calls back to that image.
i love that you mentioned more visability in ships! Something that I have been wanting to see for a while! As always, great vid Morph!
Love that we finally have an expanse style ship, ive wanted a vertical ship like this for ages
Its one of those ships that you can just take and land on a remote peaceful place and enjoy a good view. Cozy on the inside, stunning on the outside… i can see my self on one of the colder planets just looking through the port holes and enjoying the interior of the ship.
I really like the vertical design and triangular symmetry of the cross-section. It makes it feel alien, when it's on the ground, it feels like something straight out of a 50s UFO movie.
I love that they managed to make the Syulen truly alien-feeling just by rotating it 90°. Even if it's just going from "plane" to "rocket" it changes the experience of starting and landing so much in a - to me - unexpected amount.
That cathedral like reception to the pilot seat is something else. It looks fantastic
Absolutely loved the ship when I flew it when it was on free fly. I just with it had a re view mirror for landing. I would love to have one of these to fly permanently. Just always want to say thank you @Morphologis for yet another very professional and informative video. loving your work.
I have to say, as an exploration player, that huge quantum tank on the Syulen is super tempting. Add in the full accommodations and weapons rack and it's a really appealing starter exploration ship. But... the Drake Cutter Scout ends up being just that bit better as far as exploration is concerned. It's got a full scanner suite, it can carry a small vehicle, and you have plenty of room to claim salvage even if you can't carry as much overall cargo. So really the Syulen is nice, but it's just not nice enough.
I love that it reminds me of the covenant from the Halo franchise! It really stirred up some positive memories for me seeing the purple, smooth walls on the interior. It looks like a pleasure to fly!
I ADORE the fact there is a sort of natural feel to it, stone seems like such a elevated design choice
Love the 'natural' feel of the stone style with the soft lighting. Would be interesting to see with a sunrise themed light inside
My favorite thing about the Syulen has got to be the thrusters and how they light up when you boost. The multicolored look is neat and the deep sort of red and purple color that it gives off when boosting looks great.
My favorite part about the Syulen is what everybody says could be a problem: the vertical takeoff. Interested to see the other Gatac offerings in the future because of this.
My first experience with the Syulen felt truly alien. It had buttons and doors in the expected places but it was the appearance off the ship in the hangar when i first got a look at it's almost tripod appearance, the use of stone or what is meant to LOOK like stone, the non-standard or even not obvious places to store cargo that hooked me almost instantly and has me looking further at the alien ships on offer but especially the designs from Gatac. It really felt like the artists took some extra steps to try and remove human design elements from the vessels appearance. That's more than one characteristic so hopefully i'm not dq'ed :) Thank you for this review, you did the ship real justice.
I really do love how alien the Syulen looks, without being far enough out there where it looks like nothing any human would ever interact with. Excited to see the future of alien ship design in SC!
After seeing this video, i am amazed. I have always loved ships with style interior, and alien design. The syulen just tops even the best esperia models for me.
The Syulen is honestly breathtaking. Just walking up to it in the expo made me feel like it was...important, like it was some historical alien structure. Stepping inside made me feel like i was in a luxurious yet cozy space. The central hab is just enough for staying out as a mini home away from home and the top deck as you said, felt almost like a cathedral. The light shining down onto the seat makes you feel like its a throne and gives a sense of power
Honestly, I really like how cozy and (relatively) well equipped the Syulen is for non-flight needs, especially when compared to the Aurora MR I currently have. It's got some good basic storage for tools and a suit, which make it feel much more livable in the context of long flights for shipping or exploring.
This ship made me aware of the Xi'an race which I've somehow completely missed in my time with SC. I've since fallen down a rabbit hole of trying to learn everything I can about them, so for that I'm grateful this thing exists.
Gotta say, the cockpit is just amazing. The grav tech pulling me up closer to the canopy was a great design choice. Hope to see more of that! Also it just looks like a damn obelisk!
I'm a fan of this ship. Not sure how much I'll actually use it but I love that it exists and establishes the design for the GATAC manufacturer. I'm more excited about the Railen now, since it'll also have multiple floors but have much more space on each one.
I love the thought of landing at a mining facility and taking off in that vertical position. It would probably feel like watching the rockets we have sent out into space. I also love the attention to detail when entering the cockpit. Feels unnecessarily necessary.
A design that really intrigues me is the inscription on the wing(?) that really gives it that mysterious alien air about it. I'm still a newer player and I feel like getting used to the upward facing cockpit would take a little time to get used to, but those A18 hangers that open at the top would be perfect for it.
After so long in development, it's genuinely nice to see something that gives you not only the alien look but feel, both in flight and design. Plus I love the almost Star-fish like design choice, when designers base ships off real world creatures it always feels like you can almost understand why they would make it that way and yet still have that unconventional design language that gives real flavour to an idea. That's why I always loved the reapers from Mass Effect for instance.
Thanks again for doing another great Architect review Morph :)
I love how the bed has a cave feel in it. Makes it feel adventurous.
I love the fact that this ship is so different from everything else. I love the look of it & would absolutely use this as a daily driver to get around from one place to another.
