    It's absolutely brilliant writing, making use of Vala's personality (rogue archetype) and her history with the Goa'uld, as well as using the ring transporters in a way that's well-established in continuity. I miss when Scifi shows cared about continuity...

    • @HellbirdIV
      @HellbirdIV Před 3 lety +28

      @@rcslyman8929 The reason Teal'c didn't think of it is that Teal'c isn't like Vala. He thinks in Jaffa terms, even this late in the series; probably thinking about how to ambush the Jaffa chasing after her. He's spent like a hundred years learning how to fight and kill, not sneak and steal.
      It's Vala's personality (the "lovable rogue") that makes her think of something unconventional like using the incoming Jaffa reinforcements and the double-sided energy transfer of the Rings to sneak inside. Considering her history it makes a lot of sense - her first appearance in SG-1, she infiltrated the Prometheus by tricking them into using the Rings to get her aboard!

    Oh when sci-fi had less CGI and so much more quality....

    • @pwnmeisterage
      @pwnmeisterage Před 3 lety +3

      CGI was still a complex and costly thing back then. An intersection of math and code and science and media and artistry, plus an avid interest in the details of how tech things worked on and under the computer screens. The domain of skilled and knowledgeable people with real passion for their work. They took pride in their craft, they strived to produce consistent quality, they were also driven to demonstrate computer effects could be better than the physical effects dominating the industry.
      These days CGI is just another career option. Too many people choose it just for the money. And most people do not possess the natural talents and learned skillsets of the innovators. They just model mediocre copypasta which (to them) is "good enough" for the show. And they always scale things up up up way past eleven to hide deficient quality behind epic quantity.

    • @SynchronizorVideos
      @SynchronizorVideos Před 3 lety +3

      Stargate used a LOT of CGI and VFX. They were quite good for the time, and contributed to the overall quality of the show. But the excellent writing and cast also helped make it a great show. CGI is a storytelling tool, and it's only really bad when people rely too much on it, and phone in other aspects of the process.

    How would you give a psychological test to an alien who knows nothing of earth culture let alone american culture? Not to mention an alien that had another alien inside of them and the second alien pretended to be a god.

    • @Mukation
      @Mukation Před 3 lety +8

      She's human. Sure, she biologically came from an offshoot of humanity that the Goa'uld took with them when they left earth, but she was stll human.
      A psychological evalutation is still possible, since they're not evalutating your knowledge, they're evalutaing how you answer. Confidently? Uncertain? Dominant? Submissive? etc.
      add up a few hundred of those questions at random then a trained psychologist can make an educated guess on how you'll most likley behave in certain situations.

    Daniel and Vala have a great chemistry. I'm pretty sure that had a lot to do with why she went from one-off character to recurring guest star, then regular cast member. The sexual tension between them is funny and she kind of acts like an annoying childhood friend. I'd say bratty sister, but they end up together in at least one time line.

    9:06 One of the problems with Stargate: SG1 is the addresses; they always end with earth. Okay, I guess in Dominion, there were only 6. But with the seventh symbol being point of origin, I would expect gate addresses to be routinely shown as only having 6 symbols. And of course, you cannot dial home unless you know the symbol for the planet you are on.

    • @Qaeta
      @Qaeta Před 3 lety

      What should bother you more is that the symbols on the ends for both addresses shown on screen are the same, indicating that they are the same planet, not two.

    • @GregInHouston2
      @GregInHouston2 Před 3 lety

      @@Qaeta No, there is no reason why 2 planets can't have a symbol in common. Nor should the order of the symbols, except the last one, matter.

    • @holladiewal6812
      @holladiewal6812 Před 3 lety +6

      actually, the dhd remebers and dials the 7th chevron (or the 8th) meaning you only need to remeber the 6 (or 7) for your destination. However when bypassing the DHD (like the SGC does on a regular basis because they dont have one) you have to dial it yourself, which can be a slight problem when you dont know which one belongs to the planet

    • @adventwolfbane
      @adventwolfbane Před 2 lety

      They end in the earth symbol because the address is from earth. And the only symbol different on each planet is the origin symbol for that particular gate. They don't need anything else.
