I’ve fished my whole life and since the invention of the internet and CZcams, I’ve watched a LOT of fishing videos. This is now my favorite fishing video. Um, this dude was in a kayak in the ocean fighting a marlin! I mean, come on. I’m not usually a fan of videos longer than a few minutes, but this is such an amazing event to have caught on camera, the length is worth it. Some of the shots of that beast jumping were just off the charts. The boyish enthusiasm of the whole group was real and entertaining. The danger of the trip back to safety added a valuable reminder to everyone to be prepared before you go out on a boat. Thanks to all who participated and contributed to this all-time great fishing video.

The raw power and determination that fish had to fight that long and even when you thought it was done towards the end it still came out of the water and put on a spectacular show! I'm so glad it lived to fight another day, I was afraid the sharks might show up and do it in.

That is one of the hazards of ocean fishing. I've had sharks take my fish. Once, I thought I had a huge salmon on the line, it zinged way out there, and there was so much pressure on the line while I was trying to bring it in. Suddenly, the line was free and I reeled in -- a huge salmon head! Out there where I felt the pressure release, I suddenly saw a huge sea lion surface, it was eating my salmon!
I caught a large marlin in the Gulf years ago, I can't remember the exact weight now but it was close to 800 pounds. It took hours to work that marlin close enough, I had 3 others in the boat to help me when I tired of the pulling! And when they hung it up and took my picture beside it, it was about a third taller than I was and I'm 5'8"! Huge marlin, I wanted to send it to a cannery but they told me no, it "goes to the church!" (I bet the guides ate marlin for months!)
