Am one of your fan, but have not commented in your videos, as I am always accepting your points and facts.
Today, about the coins vow factor, i have read something different But a similar concept of yours in this video. The ridges or any other designs were minted, bcoz in olden days people used to cut the edges of the coins to a smaller portion and steel them, as those days the coins were minted with some costly metals. So the small pieces in a while makes a good sum of metals and they get benefit from them. So to stop these kind of issues, the coins got its ridges so if people cut the edges of the coins we can easily identify those coins are not a perfect one.

In Fact# 8, the markings in the coin edg is not only for identifying if the coin is melted but also to identify if the edge is scratched. In early days, coins made of expensive metals (i.e Gold, Silver etc) ware "Scratced" (to collect the remains) at its edge in round shape so that the shape of the coin is not altered, but the radius of the coin will be reduced... To avoid this, the edges were designed in such a way to identify if the edges are Scratched...
