First Lee Jin Ah and now Hyukoh?! You're killing it recently. In my opinion you're finally getting to the artists from SK that really excite me. Idol groups are what got me into Korean music but artists like Hyukoh, Lee Jin Ah, Cacophony, and Sam Kim are what keep me coming back.
If you're planning on reacting to more Hyukoh I'd recommend, Tomboy, Wanli, and Mer.
I was watching Mama for BTS when i saw Hyukoh's Wanli performance and i loved it, since then Ive liked Hyukoh so happy Ellis is getting into the other Korean music too :)

I love kpop but I live for artists like Hyuko, Jaurim, Nell and YB. They are so amazing but reactors dont really give them a listen since they are less mainstream Korean artist. Specially since they are more band based. I'm glad you gave Hyuko a listen. Thank you Ellis 💜

It's something when a guitarist like you says they are good. I have been rooting for this band since 2016. I'm just so happy you've reacted to this band. I love the balance of vocals and the instruments and this band sings absolutely great live.

Yessss a band! Hyukoh had such a good yr in 2017. I wonder how they are now? I remember they signed on to the Black Label under YG i think and then i don’t seem to have heard anything else... Can you also pls react to IV OF SPADES - Mundo on the Wish bus. They’re a band too, and they were quite young when they made this song but the guitarist is amazing.

Thanks! Hyukoh deserves more notice internationally. Hyukoh is also a terrific live band - I got to see them at a club in Philly last year. What you heard in the video is what you get live, except Oh Hyuk's usual axe is a 50's Fender Duo Sonic. They do the extra vocal harmonies by having the drummer trigger them via computer when he starts playing. A couple of the songs that stood out for me were Love Ya! and Wanli. Since you relate music to things you know, you'll hear the Beatles influence in Love Ya! and the melody in Wanli will remind you of Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart minus a couple of notes.
Your music commentary was great but even better were all the recommendations in the comment section for Korean groups I'm not familiar with. Se So Neon is also really good but I haven't searched for k-rock very much because imo most of the well-known Korean rock groups are pretty boring and there's much more interesting music being done by kpop groups. Btw, nobody thinks of Hyukoh as kpop since they're not an idol group assembled by an agency/label after years of voice & dance training. People usually refer to Hyukoh as k-indie.

My recommendation for you: IU - Sleepless Rainy Night (the special clip ver.)
It's pronounced "hyuk" like the kinda sound that Goofy makes (or 'yuck' with a h in front of it) and "oh" like the letter "o" is pronounced.
Glad you like hyukoh though! They're notable as one of the many "indie" bands in Korea that made it big after doing very well on a television show and blowing up with the album release immediately after that. They're pretty well known for being a significant departure from the typical Kpop genre, even a strong departure from full instrumental K-pop/rock bands (who tend to draw heavily from J-Rock). They can best be described as drawingly VERY heavily on a variety of American rock/disco/funk influences from the 50's to the late 80's, and they blend them together in a very organic and thoroughly un-American way. Add in a sprinkle of Korean and Chinese influences (the frontman of the band is a Korean born and raised in Northern China) and you have Hyukoh.
Check out their other songs! Their breakout hit was "Wi ing Wi ing". Tomboy, Hooka, Wanli and their other singles/b-sides are all worth a listen too as well. It's really nice to see you go in and play the chords and break it down, your commentary on guitar-heavy songs is always great to hear.
