    At the risk of sounding pedantic, I would add two other happy accidents. First, the band's hearing the psychedelic album "The Zodiac: Cosmic Sounds" in May 1967. Try a little bit of it and you can hear the inspiration for DOFP, including spoken words and a concept song cycle. Second, sometime in the Summer of 1967 I believe, Mike Pinder buys a mellotron from his old employer, Streetly Electronics. Everything suddenly came together quickly. And we get the legendary Mark II Moodies.
