Penelope wears yellow because her mother forces her to wear it, thinking it a happy color able to attract men. But Lady Featherington has a bad taste of fashion.
WOW! That makes so much sense lol I’m glad she got rid of it because it wasn’t doing my girl any Justice!!
I always got the impression that green and yellow were their family colours, kind of like a casual coat of arms. Their decor, clothes, etc. are pretty much all yellow and green, like how the bridgertons wear mostly blues and whites, which matches the interior of their home. It could be that the costume designers just wanted to stick to specific colour palettes for certain families and characters, however it would also make sense to me if rich families at the time wore their family colours with pride, and also as a marking of their status. Even their maids are dressed to match their families.
edit from a few days later: so lady featherington does reference “the family colours” in the first episode of the first season, so the families having their own colours is actual canon, it’s not just something the costume designers decided on.
I think their family colors are citrus shades so lots of yellow, lime green and orange with pink. Her moving to the darker jewel tone was a smart move to break from her family showing how much she wants that separation.
@@annabelledrake2027 this is exactly it and it's so clever too ! because if you notice in s1, daphne goes from the signature bridgerton blue to purple as her relationship with simon, who's signature colour is red, progresses. with penelope, you can see her dresses becoming a sort of teal, seafoam-ish green, a mix of bridgerton blue (from colin) and a bit of yellow (from the featheringtons).
i am not quite sure about kate and anthony though 😭 but if i were to guess, kate wore darker colours at the start of the season but as she progressively falls in love with anthony they get lighter, with lilac being the colour of her dress when she finally kisses anthony. it makes sense because the bridgerton's signature colours are more pale/pastel
It all kind of also ties in with the Featheringtons being New Money. So their clothes are a bit more gaudy and flashy compared to the Bridgertons, who are Old Money and wear more subdued blues and pastels.
In regard to the featheringtons, I believe they do have an aunt who died, she just didn't have a fortune she left them. They just used the death as a convenient excuse to explain where they got their money from, when in fact they're living off money lord featherington swindled, and likely a little made from their estate.
Okay because that’s what I was confused about as last season he seemed to had left and took all the money but maybe I remembered wrong.

@@wwhn You're correct in that he did plan to leave and take the money with him, and he also wanted to take Lady Featherington with him. But as soon as she realized he expected her to go to America with him and abandon her daughters, she chose her daughters over him.
Without him knowing, she arranged to have some documents forged (like fake financial records and the paper mentioned in this episode where he supposedly leaves the estate to the first male heir born to one of her daughters). And then she used them to blackmail him into leaving without the money. So the swindled money is what they're living on now.
It was easy to miss that part or forget, since it was all communicated in a very brief scene between them last season. Looking forward to your next reaction!

The Eloise and Pen break up is so painful and you can see how much they both want a proper reconciliation. It's almost more intense than Colin and Pen to me but maybe because I have so much invested into their Pen/El closeness over the last 2 seasons.
That's the actual love triangle of the season! 😅The actresses do such a great job at showing the weighted awkwardness and yearning. Need my Peneloise back ASAP!
I only now made the connection with her nickname being Pen and being the writer.
El is obviously mad still and hurt, but you can see throughout the ep that she still cares about Pen, and I think El is just going to keep protecting her as long as pen doesn't write anything ruinous about them. what she said about Colin is embarrassing and hurtful to him because he is putting on a front and her comments are too close to home. Eloise even called him out in a very similar way when he tried to give her the book. people who know him see through this new exterior, so maybe she was just surprised like oh wow pen really read him for filth in such a real way. plus then with his reaction, she is still protecting pen by not telling him.

Lady WD was spot-on Colin's "new" personality. She read him AND wrote him! His own siblings have also called him out in similar ways already. They're all like, "Who even are you right now?"

Yh she said 3rd year on the marriage mark as in her 3rd season 💕
Her mother also forced her to debut into society a year earlier than she wanted to. So this is Pen's 3rd year, Cressida's 3rd year, Eloise's 2nd and Francesca's 1st.
Pen was introduced into society but majority of suitors dont like her which in turn leaves Pen to become wallflowerish, standing in the corners of balls and social events. Also suitors don't find her interesting because her interests are books and writing

Love this reaction and season so far. Colin and Penelope have great screen chemistry. Penelope in that green dress... those men would've had to contend with me because I would've been doing my damndest to woo Penelope there. I've kind of been in love with Nicola Coughlan in interviews for years. She is always beautiful, but this season, they really let her have sex appeal. I'm so freaking happy.
Every time I watch Bridgerton, I marvel at how beautiful every single person in the show is. I'm so grateful to be bi because I really am winning in the eye candy department with this season.

Yes finally I love your reaction and I love Bridgerton season three part 1. Colin is so very fine like I can’t and I love Pen my two favorite characters and everyone man and woman are beautiful,attractive,I love this show.
Eloise is also mad because Pen didn't tell her she was Lady WD. Not only did Pen betray her, she kept secrets from her. Big secrets. Huge.
I do think Lady WD ultimately did right by El & Colin in the previous seasons. She just made a lot of crazy choices while doing it, which ended up hurting them too.

Penelope reacts on her petty emotions. She wasn't trying to save Colin she was trying to Keep him for herself even when he didn't feel that way for her. She wasn't trying to protect Eloise she was protecting herself.
You can tell bc she always writes damning things when things don't go her way.

im so confused why everyone is very forgiving about what pen did to eloise. pen framed it as if she tried to save eloise's and the bridgerton's reputation when it wouldn't have needed saving if she just told the truth to the queen. like the queen wouldn't be on eloise's ass if penelope just fessed up. it was very selfish of pen to paint eloise in a bad light in lady whistledown's gossip sheet just to save herself. if i were eloise, the best i could offer pen is forgiveness and nothing more. i just can't be friends with someone who would push me off a moving train just to save herself.
