When these came out I thought the taillights were the coolest thing. Still do. The cat's claws strip of lights curving up onto the fender is just so cool. The front looks a bit dated though. Digital gauges were a big deal back then. One dark morning on my way to school I saw one of these with the taillights on and then the dashboard screen. It was futuristic. It looks good long and low.
Leather, wood, and chrome vents. It's like a British clubhouse on wheels. German luxury cars are about precision and quality and driving impressions. Jaguar was about "what if a gentleman desires to go on tour with a bit of sport?" I couldn't tell you the last time I saw any Jaguar on the road, I'd almost forgotten about them. Jaguar needs an identity again and to get a reputation for quality.

    Couple of things:
That AJ-V6 isn't actually related to the old AJ-V6 (The old AJ-V6 was what you found in the X-Type and S-Type and was basically just a duratec, what was in that Mazda). The V6 in that XJ is actually the V8 with a shorter cylinder head and blanking plates where the rear two cylinders would've gone! Very interesting design, Jaguar didn't have the money to develop a brand new entry level V6 at the time, so they just used the V8.
Yes that Jaguar ornament on the shifter is aftermarket, factory they're just polished black to blend in/disappear into the center console with the car off
I vastly prefer the styling of the LWB, the side profile on the standard wheelbase just looks kinda off to me, the extra length adds to the elegant lines. I have several old 70s-90s Jags currently and have been looking at this generation (x351) as a new daily, so this upload kinda caught my by surprise lol

You are 100% my friend, well written. That engine is in no way related to a Mazda engine. The AJ126 V6 as you mentioned in this car, uses the AJ133 V8 where two cylinder bores are blanked. It’s actually a very stiff block with four valves per cylinder and four overhead cams.
This 2013 car is the first year of its application and it was used in every jaguar product from the F type and the XF to the entire Land Rover line including the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. I believe 2020 was its last production year.

340HP is V8 territory for most cars, so it's pretty impressive for a V6, albeit a supercharged one.

it's sad that they have too kill off the XJL l, just like the Cadillac CT6. But it makes sense since these big cat carriers were never profitable; overshadowed by the s class and 7 series

I love the way this car looks. Love the sound on the 5.0SC. Only problem I have with this car is.... it's limited on options for the price point.

These are really cool cars--I've had one for a few years and aside from it being a little too low for taller folk to get in and out of, it's just a really stylish car with a presence few can match.
Other cars have wood "trim." Small, ornamental trim pieces to add a bit of visual luxury. The XJ has giant wood "panels" that dominate the interior theme; the only cars I can think of with larger wood panels are Bentley and Rolls.
Outside, the stance is perfect; people harp about their sports cars having big wheel gaps and this full-size sedan has none of that. It looks low, long and tautly tensioned with no flat or empty space between its character lines. The wheel gaps are so tight that I sometimes wonder how it can have enough suspension travel to be a luxury car.
Another really cool feature, and what drew me to my particular car, was the relatively rare "Satin Zebrano" wood trim option. If you search pictures of that it's a bright, linear pattern that feels slightly Scandinavian. Easily my favourite feature.

It's certainly less distinct, British and luxury than the previous generation, but that's what the Zoomers want. There are a lot of things I like about it, but I wish they focused more on the reliability of the car than on trying to make it look more plain. I like the back end of the car, though. That says luxury. But the front end compared to the previous generation makes it look like every other car on the road.

    I understand this is stupid.
But I really feel like a bug luxury car like this would be better a wagon. People buy big crossovers as luxurious boats.
I feel like a wagon would give even more presence and would allow the rear passengers to have so much more room and adjustments.
While popular the sedan body style is honestly one of the most impractical styles compared to hatchbacks, liftbacks, wagons, and crossovers. You restrict so much space.

The 3.0 V6 in this car is in no related to that Mazda. It’s a V8 block with two cylinders bores blanked.
