  • This is the retro Car-15 build I’m been in the works for about a few months it’s a NFA SBR and nearly clone correct for the GAU-5 or colt XM177E2 or Colt 629 rifles, Colt commando
not an exact military clone, but good enough for me

Nice. I built an "Air Force" version M16 wannabe slick side, triangle hand guards, three prong flash hider, and chrome bolt. I don't generally like a forward assist. Eugene Stoner did not like them either. Next build is a Commando - need to get the stamp and the whole nine yards.

yeah I built an m16a1 from H&R parts, still prefer the 11.5 commando

Very nice build! FYI Brownells is now carrying a AR Selector without the notch for Retro builds!

Got all my parts scrounged up to assemble my own XM-177E2 with the 11.5” barrel and that long flash hider….the correct length flash hider. I kept a set of hand guards and butt stock from when my unit dumped the M4A3’s so we had a lot of spares laying around so after all these years I can finally use them, lol. I’ll be duracoating mine with the Colt Gray color and still kicking around what to do with the plastic buttstock, curious if I can use some of that rubber like coating that now comes in a spray can at Home Depot to simulate the original coating or, I can use some Duracoat in black or Alumahyde II paint. Finding the tear drop forward assist and A1 rear sights was the tougher part of the hunt not to mention the barrel, plenty of 12.5” barrels in standard or lightweight profile but the 11.5” selection is mostly heavy profile or cost an arm and a leg. I chose to go with the 1-7 twist rate instead of the 1-12 just to allow me the options of using the heavier munitions I have in my inventory. Choosing what tone of gray coating to use wasn’t easy as well, didn’t want to go too dark or light, I’ve used the Ceracoat Diamond plate gray for my FAL restoration and it looks great so I’m going with Duracoat Colt gray, should be adequate for the project.
That bolt looks great, nice detail you did since many don’t consider using a chromed BCG. Thanks for the video sir.

Who made the stock again? Wasn't to auditory when you'd said it and I tried playing it back but I figured I'd just ask :)

      Thank you
Did it fit snug or was it loose?
I have a milspec tube and would like one that fits snug. Any info would help

@@tylerramsey1388 it rattles and has play side to side but since its plastic on metal it doesn't make any noise
