      yeah, sokka tends to gets cast aside as the comic relief from the start, and you kind of feel that way even as a viewer a lot of the time. This episode really solidifies his importance in the show. and when you go back and watch this show for a second time (i've probably watched it 4 times now) you have that in your head and really see how sokka is important from the start.

    • @nathancollins1715
      @nathancollins1715 Před rokem +43

      That would make a lot of sense, especially if Iroh brought him on as his tutor. Plus it's funny that the master tells Sokka to use "Li" as a cover name, when it's the same name Zuko takes on in the Earth Kingdom.

    • @TheAbominableDrFaustus

    • @Krustenkaese92
      @Krustenkaese92 Před rokem +21

      @@nathancollins1715 SPOILERS yeah, I totally see Iroh doing that. He gifted Zuko the knife from Ba Sing Se, so he probably knew Zuko liked blades and was somewhat talented with them. And when he saw that Zuko was having a hard time with fire bending and how he was constantly comparing himself to his prodigy sister I totally see Iroh trying to help Zuko find something that he could make his own that Azula didn't already 'own', so to speak. Now that I think about it, this recontextualizes the scene where Zuko confronts Ozai a little, as Zuko threatens Ozai with those swords. It was during the eclipse, so he couldn't fire bending anyway but it's a very nice metaphor for the choice Zuko is making in that moment. He's choosing Iroh by literally holding the skill that Iroh (presumably) introduced him to in his hands in front of Ozai.
      That's also another difference between Ozai and Iroh. Ozai 100% thinks fire bending is everything and you're a failure if you're not perfect at it while Iroh probably thought "there's more to life and fighting than fire bending" and instead looked at what Zuko had going for himself and found something more suited to his talents. Zuko really is right when he said Iroh was his true father.

    • @nanaue7336
      @nanaue7336 Před rokem

      Well in the comics I think the search there was a flashback into Zukos childhood and it showed that Zuko was not only untalented at firebending but also didnt have what Ozai calls the spark for great potential at it what made him a late bloomer to even have the ability to firebent, so Ozai thought about killing Zuko but one of the fire sages thought Zuko could still be a usefull soldier and Zukos mother Ursa defenetly didnt wanted that Zuko died so they convinced Ozai to let Zuko be trained by Pian Dao so its not Iroh but Ursa Zuko is choosing with his choice weapon and then Iroh with his choice of believes and words. @@Krustenkaese92

    • @nathancollins1715
      @nathancollins1715 Před rokem +10

      @@Krustenkaese92 That's also a great point. I think the fact that Ozai being effectively defenseless against Zuko in that moment speaks volumes about his character. He's one of the greatest firebenders in the world, but without this power that he was born with he's no match against his son who had to work hard for what he has, both his swordsmanship and his firebending skills. If Zuko hadn't been so merciful, Ozai would've been toast. And it nicely sets up Aang taking away Ozai's power by taking his bending. Without his birthright, he's nothing. Completely helpless.

    I always thought what if that guard came back to iroh all like “hey sorry about what I just said, the wife’s been-“ and he just sees jacked iroh 💀

    How come Sokka gives Toph some space earth when they literally brought a whole meteorite rock to the temple? Am I missing something?

    I'm curious, where did your channel name come from? I assume the di part comes from there being two of you, but I don't know about the rest

    I wish we lived in a world where I could just comment that "Ariana's smile in the first few seconds of this video was very heartwarming", & not have to qualify it by expressly supporting why I'm not a delusional simp (barf🤢) in a parasocial relationship with her & a compliment could just be a compliment. I also wish the creeps hadn't ruined it to the point where the ladies don't even interact with the comments at this point. Anyway let me enjoy the video.

      I look at it this way. We bitch when GOT or other series get spatial distortion with distance over time. So if you want to cover a sense of journey and not fast travel to fire Nation then they gotta encounter something interesting. Otherwise we watch them walk through woods...so it is what it is

    • @cjjackson2423
      @cjjackson2423 Před rokem

      @@pfang32 skipping that ONE episode won't take away the journey. I don't think so at least. Hell all they did was walk through a ditch anyway 😭
