Excellant video! Thank Yuo. The Operator is excellent at his job. The Orlit Houses appear to be substandard in construction.

Quite interesting windows, quite different than what we have in the US. I like how the tall sashes pivot vertically while the two-high portions have a fanlight sash that tilts out.

Thank you for the video. Was very interesting to see the history of the properties in a documentary demolition. They came down like a house made of cards. A bit scary. Wouldn't want to sneeze inside or the walls would probably blow out.

Once the frame is removed nothing is supporting the blocks that’s why they came down as easy
The operator makes it look easy

These dwelling provided a roof and warmth over many a head post WW2 in Europe. Ive seen similar in Austria, Germany and England. Many are demolished due to structural decay, insufficient insulation, electricals and plumbing and increased land values. C'est la vie.

Nice video only orlits iv seen with flat roofs
Their was orlits in my home town of Irvine they were demolished in the 90s
The concrete frames had deteriorated and made them unsafe
The ones in the video have lasted a lot longer
Some of them have had the roofs propped up and the external walls rebuilt with bricks

Only a government “program” would tear down apartment buildings that appear structurally sound but in need of a serious make over. What a shame.

I lived in these houses and can honestly say they were wonderful. Huge compared to most council houses, yes they were cold when we were growing up..but no more than any other house without central heating.
For all of you that have said they were just shells. They were people homes!! May just be a building to you...but we were chucked out of them with little compensation for anything and not even what the houses were worth.
Can't believe this sort of video is on UTube for all to see. Disgusting really!

when it comes to watching demolitions nothing draws a crowd more than a good shovel operator and seeing them load trucks . thanks it looks easy but its not . but this guy knows what hes doing.

Are they some kind of subsidized housing?.... they look very cheaply built to me

    • @johnwiseman2047
      @johnwiseman2047  Před rokem +1

After the war there was a desperate need for housing, so these pre-fabricated houses were designed. They were only supposed to be used for 10 years, until something more permanent was built. Over 50 years later they were still being used.

The British know how to build a good roof. Everyone here in the states has shingles made of the same felt asphalt, tabs go missing after a breeze and you have to replace them every few years! I don't know why we don't have more slate and tile over here!
