This pisses me off so bad my targets are all 7s and 8s but a 7 sounds crapppp
elizabeth rose don't worry about what your targets are, so many people in the past were targeted A* and do a lot worse and there are people who were targeted D and got A or A*. So it's up to you to do the work to get the top grades not your targets 😊😉
Salimah thank you!xxx
elizabeth rose a 7 no offence sounds like a B because you are 2 levels down. It however isn't which us do strange how I can get an 8 or a 9 and still get an A*
In fact anything from 7-9 is in the A and A* range.. so really although a grade 7 is mainly an A, it also is a low A* hence a grade 7 is also a top grade. This is where you have to think in terms of numbers as each number is more or less a crossover between grades.
Man said 7s and 8s i havent even got a pass as my target
Dang it the government tryna mess my relationship with my asian parents.

It’s makes your A levels easier because the new GCSEs are closer to that level.

Pretty funny.
In the netherlands the grading system goes like this: You can get a grade between 1 and 10, 10 being the best, 1 being the worst. You need a 5.5 to pass a class. The grades are rounded off on one decimal. So you can get grades like a 5.2 or 7.8 or 9.9
In Jamaica it goes from 3-1, 1 being the best you can get for a subject and 3 meh
For the people sitting GCSEs 2017 and have only had 2 years to learn the spec a 4 is a good pass and you won't have to resit with a 4, I think that changes moving forward but as we're the guinea pig year a 4 is good enough x
Daisy Cleary ikr, I got a 4 in maths and no one has questioned whether it’s good enough. Most colleges allow you in with at least a 4 in maths/English language, and many jobs only need a 4
jw2077 01 thank god I’m scared I’m in year 10 when and what do I revise
You are so helpful, i am doing my GCSE's in 2018 and i am sure i will be glued to your channel!
+Hannah James 💕😀
So how did it go ?
When I get my GCSE results in a few years time, I'll probably look at my results and say "Yay! I got a 1!". Then, I realise that 9 is the top and 1 is the worst... Anyway, could you help us revise for the new GCSEs, for Maths and Science, the new exams are much harder and topics from AS level is included.
+Swanna of course!!!
***** Thank you! :)
赤羽総悟 I just did my AS levels, one of the subjects I did was English language, which I did 9-1 in GCSE and I can definitely say that AS level is so much harder than GCSE level, even the new GCSE is so much easier. I didn’t even revise and did well enough.
They are a lot easier
Your channel is so helpful please do some grade 9 work and questions as I am one of them people that will be taking my exams with the new spec
+Iqra Chowdhury of course!!
First time I've listened to your voice since my gcse's and no offence (because you're great) but my heart died.
I'm in year 11 and I'm getting a 6 in English but a 4 in maths 🙄
This plus the new specification is making me so stressed, My target for maths for example is an A which if I work for it I could hopefully achieve on the old exams but with the exams changing so that it's in no order of difficulty and that your working out is worth more than your answer makes me so stresses as i can get questions correct and show working out but because I've used a different method of working out which I often do I will drop marks so it is going to make it hard for me to even get a good pass :(
+Georgia May 😥 you can only work hard and try your best. Make sure you start revising now and do as much practice as you can.
I'll help as much as I can.x
yes but bare in mind that there are still grade boundaries so there probs be low for the new spec so you could still get a 7
Georgia May this is a little too late but I didn't try in my GCSEs and got an A 5 B's and Cs. I am not saying I am smart...I am actually saying the opposite. This easy pass (I understand it wasn't easy for everyone but bare with me here) meant I didn't study at AS Level at all and got a DDU. At this point I have already fucked it up with the best I could do was maybe a BBD and it took everything out of me to get within 10 UMS of this. The new GCSE spec is hard but helpful later because the A level specs haven't changed much yet giving you an advantage I only wished I had
I did my GCSEs in 2017 and got a 4 in maths and a 4 definitely is good enough. Maybe not for the younger years that sit their GCSEs as they may be making changes of what’s acceptable or not, but we were told that a 4 is perfectly fine. Lots of colleges ask for at least a 4 in both maths and English language and many jobs want at least a 4. I’m planning on doing primary school teaching when I leave college and all the universities I’ve looked at say that we need at least a 4 in GCSE maths.
A 4 is definitely good for 2017 as you were literally made the guinea pigs.
If a grade 9 is associated with a very top A* and most of the numbers have two grades associated with them then a grade 7 should be an A as well as a low A*. My point is that you need to think in terms of the numbers as opposed to just fixed grades as the numbers are more 'fluid' and could mean a crossover between two grades. So therefore no number is a really fixed grade, so to speak for e.g. if you get a grade 6, although it's a B but it's also seen as an A but a low A. It is what it is but technically, you can still see it and say it as either result! And a grade 7 is an A but you can also see it or say it as a low A*. Any of you who worked your socks off, got top results in tests, mocks and homework or past papers and got 7's or 8's in the actual exams just remember that any grade between 7 to 9 is still considered an A and actually even an A* and that should mean a grade 7 too. Even a grade 7 is still be considered like an A* although a low A* and predominantly an A grade. So it's open to interpretation and remains flexible. Another factor to consider that this new grading system helps and suits many of the Examiners out there as many are not qualified or studied in the subject that they may be marking.. unfortunately! Also there are lack of enough examiners and they have time-pressures to mark scripts. Hence this new grading system allows some degree of flexibility, perhaps room for error in their levels and pace of marking. So the numbers allows for variation in the grades and there is no fixed grade so to speak unless it's a top grade 9 or a bottom grade 1. The rest of the grades seem more like in-betweener grades. And when examiners mark, they may differentiate the top students and that's why having the top tier 7-9 grading really helps them and there could be less issues regarding their marking. As long as students try and aim for the top-tier 7-9, either of those grades, it doesn't matter with either of those grades, then they would be laughing! Schools would be more prepared in future to reach the higher tier 7-9 of results. And universities are not going to go too in-depth into your GCSE results as long as their criteria are met!
I looked at the local college page and they want a grade 4 in Maths and English and looked at certain university and they only want a grade 4 I can just hope it'll stay the same before I go lol. Good video thanks!!
+Wrinkly Kong 😀
Aiden's Games this video was made in 2016 before the first year did some 9-1 GCSEs and before rules were established about what’s acceptable or not. I remember hearing somewhere that a 4 may not be accepted in the future but as I did mine in 2017 it’s accepted for us.
5 is a B
Ray Excite really. B- or C+
No it’s a c+
Team J it’s a b for people who want to feel better about them selves for getting a bad grade.
Team J I don’t like the way @idk man is behaving but however he is right, a grade 5 is a C+. A 6 is a B
RandomCZcamsViewer I’m actually a girl and I’m in y9 and already getting higher than that.Come on it isn’t that hard for the average person to get at least a 6 or 7.I am not mentioning people with health reasons or mental health reasons but come on the average person with no major mental or health issues should try harder. If someone wants to argue my point of view then at least give good evidence.
Hi! I have just started year 9 and my school is already making us start our GCSE courses. I have chosen triple science so it would be amazing if you could tell us about what will come up in the exams!:) I love your videos by the way, they are so detailed and very accurate.

How will this affect those of us in the previous years, I got a C this year in mathematics. Is that still good enough, or will universities consider that to be a 4 and disregard us?
+Outlaw7502 a C is still good, don't worry it won't affect you!

Thank you :)
I'm in year 9 and I'm getting 5- 5 and 5+ on mostly every subject. Is that good?
Natasha Davey ye
yeah that's very good! Since you're expected to increse your grades by 1/2 grades, by the time you're in year 11 you'd have like 7s and 8s. I'm in year 11 and i'll be lucky if i pass my english gcse :/
That’s really good! I’m also in year 9 and in English and maths I’m getting 5-7
So I could get extremely good results in one subject, but not get a 9 because I'm not in the top 10%, that's sad
I did chem last year in year 10 and this year I'm doing biology and physics. Does this mean I'll have an A for chem and a number grade for the other two? (5/6/7 etc)
Zeo Khan no, this is for the new specification for people in year 10 now
how do I revise for biology and chemistry new gcse as I am getting B's and A's I want to do better and how will I be able to access to exampro

Hi I have got an F in maths and doing a apprenticeship what grade would that be a 2? Thanks
This all feels so crazy! Im currently in year 10 and i was aiming for 9s thinking their equivalent to a*s i guess not! Please can you let me know if you have any specific revision techniques and how much workload/revision is the right amount to achieve high grades? Thankyou!!
+Simrahmed I'll make something over half term!
Science and Maths by Primrose Kitten thanks so much!
I did them in 2011 (Italian & Dutch) and 2014 (the rest of them). I'm not sure how many 9s I would've gotten but I got 9A*s (and 4As) but I wonder if I could get the exact mark for each exam.
7 years later - 9s really aren’t too horrible to get 💀👀
Question : I am doing double science , is that core or additional?
So i just saw cambridge's site 9 is equal to a* not top of a*...ther is no distinction between a* and any grade above that..8 is between a and a*
So for the mocks my school used the AQA specimen paper set 3, which nobody had done before, I ended up getting around 83% which got me an 8. The 8 was calculated via AQA's weird grade input system. Anyway I really really want a 9, for me, but it also doesn't help that everyone else sort of expects me to get one yet the chances of me succeeding are bloody slim. I'm revising like a maniac after paper 1 and I don't know what else to do to try and get top marks in the next two papers. In paper 1I didn't get above 90% probably around 80%, which is better than my mock paper 1. What should I do? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
On the exams . Do you have 2 exams in 1 day or is it 1 exam per day ?
for example RE, if you get a 8 in one paper but a 4 in the other, do they calculate the mean, median and give you that grade? or are both of your papers added together on an overall score?
they calculate what's in between, so if you get an 8 in one paper and 4 in the other, then you would get 6
So in years to come will the ‘good pass’ be a grade 6 and so on??
Wait so will they still be changing the grade boundaries after each exams because...
Will this be the same for a level students who do the new linear specification? :)
ordinary person
No, we're still getting the As, Bs etc.
+ordinary person no, A-level is still letters.
Okay, thank you :)
Am guessing u know the primary SATS grades and how they work and how it’s roughly 2 grades below. It basically means that it feels you’ve gone so much further down. Am in y 9 and am not that academical and I work at 4-5 my school took students off certain subjects just bc it’s so important to get above a 5. They had an assembly about how u need language to be anywhere and how you won’t be employed by anyone without getting at least a 5. From primary school it feels like you’ve moved nowhere.
Your theory is exactly what I thought! (for the first year it's just English and maths at 9-1 then it changes to all GCSEs for the next year - for people wondering)
So the 9-1 is only for maths and english, and not any other exams?
(For those sitting the exam in 2017 it's English and maths)
what about this year??
Ye the current year 11s are the ones to be taking the exams in 2017
+Meg x thanks Meg, great advice!
In IGCSE

Hey any way you cant start live streams as my gcses are next year and i want to start revising early. Basicaly revison like from scratch also plan out revision days that would really help😊 Thanks
This system is inaccurate in many ways because the amount of bullying received from school pupils during lessons preventing concentration and performance in learning due to this behaviour how is anybody ever Meant to meet the required grades?
I'm in year 9 and a step 7 in all subject s except for history which I'm a 8- but I don't understand the minus does the mean in like a A*-
What does the grade 2 mean?
whats a gcse grade minus 6 ?
Is it true that if you don’t pass maths and English you cannot leave school ?
Forza223 Bowe no, u go to college to resit
I am doing my GCSEs this year and I really want to do Biology next year. Is there any chance you could do some revision videos please (B1, B2, B3 I'm doing triple)
+Lucy M which spec? AQA and edexcel are all done!!
Grades and these new numbering system is still broad. You can have 1000s of students in the same number/grade (maybe except a 9) imo you should only get a UMS score divide that by the max UMS score and if it's above 50% you have passed. Now the low A*s and the high A*s have been separated and you can actually see how good a subject you are helping you make your A level choices
As some one who never passed gsce english, still in educationg about to studdy a masters we need to simply just do a what percent grade you got 72% or 35% its make it so mich easyer for employers to judge people and for only just getting a 7 by one point and just missing an 8 by 1 point look like the same thing but could have a 10+ % grade diffrence
I'm doing my GCSEs in 2019, will they make it harder by then?

Is maths two GCSEs or one
You can thank Michael Gove for this! I bloody hate the conservative government, the truth of the matter is that they want less people to do well and less people to go to university in order to save money. Typical Tories, creating a system that will only ensure the most advantaged (those that can afford tutoring, etc) will get the best grades! More students than ever before did well with the old specifications and their first assumption was not to praise the hard work and effort of the pupils but rather "Oh, the exams must be getting easier!" The education system for this country has been ruined and I'm so glad I never have to go through it, I just feel sorry for the ones that are going to struggle!
1-9 sounds so dumbed down. What sounds better I hot a A star or 9 grade ?
For me its 1-10 lol
I'm predicted a 7- for English, does that equal to a B+ or an A-?
+Emily C it's a crossover!
that is equivalent to A- I believe.
7- is still very good
I'm taking my GCSEs a year early, and my target grades are nines across the board. No pressure!!!! That's in the top 3.6% of each subject. I hate it, but if I say that to my friends, they get annoyed because they think I'm being silly. They think I'm really smart, and I have nothing to worry about. But it's freaking me out. I am expected to do the impossible. Uuuuggghhhh.
Thats really hard, I hate it when students are predicted 9's put them under unreasonable pressure. AND taking them a year early is really hard :( just make sure you have a timetable in place and make time to look after yourself.
xoxo
Yeah, tbh I think nobody should be predicted a nine. It's an unhealthy amount of pressure and encourages perfectionism.
Hello I am really confused as my school keeps telling me that a 4 is a c! But my college want a 5? help!
AJ Martin that's rubbish! But thank you.
C is a 4 and that is still a pass, however your college wants a 5. All this means is that your college wants people who are getting a 5. If you get a 4, you won't have to re-sit the exam but you won't be accepted into your college of choice (unless there is a compromise of some kind I'm not sure).
