I "sear/grill" the jicama wraps in a dry pan for a minute or so. It kind of dries them out a bit and makes them less crunchy if you're looking for less of that weird crunch.
the "zhoug sauce" originates from Yemen, and is pronounced schoog with the throaty ch. The original Schug is really spicy and I mix it into grated tomato or sauces for dipping
I know I was surprised when they say it wasn’t spicy! I cannot eat schoog unless it’s a very small amount mixed into crushed tomatoes or a small spoonful on top of hummus
@@misspeaches1144 I put it on toasted bread or pita (unless I have harissa), top with avocado, then a bit of date syrup or agave. It's really good, spicy but not too spicy with the avocado and sweetener. I got the idea from Daphne Oz a few years ago when she made it (thigh she used harissa and honey).

Zhoug is great in rice! Depending on your heat preferences, 1tsp to 1tbsp mixed in gives it great color and flavor. Then you eat it with whatever dish you're serving with your rice. You can also add it to "eggs".

We love the zhoug sauce at our house! We eat it plain with tortilla chips, sometimes a little mixed with TJs garlic chipotle salsa, but best of all mixed into hummus. Also the jicama wraps make a healthier substitute for rice wrappers when making fresh spring rolls (though you do have to eat them taco-style). So excited to be going vegetarian (heading toward vegan) at our house (one mom, two teens). My daughter has been vegetarian since elementary school, and my son never liked meat much except fast food burgers. I've also been vegetarian on and off all my life. We had watched many movies together (Forks over Knives, Cowspiracy, etc.), but the movie that really sealed it for us all was Okja - I highly recommend it. Thanks for your great videos. You offer lots of good recipes, practical tips, and a relaxed approach that makes it all look very doable. 😊
I add the zhoug to a dip I make. Roasted corn kernels Can of 3 beans rinsed (Costco) Can of fire roasted tomatoes 1 large fresh tomato chopped Purple onion Garlic powder Red pepper flakes and/or 1 jalapeño (I like it hot) Eat with tortilla chips Yummy
Jackie Chavez just mix it together and eat. The canned beans are already cooked. Please remember to strain and rinse the beans good, an important step.
Do you happen to know what the ingredient list is? Is it just jicama or do they add anything to it? Have you tried steaming them? Thanks. They look good.

Does your TJs have a Tahini Sauce? It is in the same container and area as the Zhoug sauce. You might like it. Personally I loved it because it is ready to add to meals vs having to make one from scratch.
The notification for this video popped up on my phone when I was at Trader Joe’s! Wished I watched this before I went, but now I have some items on my list for next time! For the mini cheesecakes, I like to top them off with some Crofters jam for a little added tartness. And I like to mix up a little Zhoug Sauce with mayo and put it on sandwiches and burger buns. 😋
I like hot green tea or mild coffee with coconut milk. I love jicama crunchy but great has a veggie or add to a salad. Peel a jicama put in a air tight container in the frig, will be bad after 5 days.

The pringles type chips are soooo good. I've been getting the Dippers for years. Super easy to eat the whole bag. Zhoug is spelled and pronounced differently in different regions. I've always seen is spelled schug and pronounced shkoog or shug like sugar.

I make a version of the chili cheese Fritos with those corn chips, the TJs vegetarian canned chili(you need to try if you haven’t, it’s good by itself but I add beefless grounds and roasted corn to it and it’s 👌🏻👌🏻), and the TJs vegan nacho cheese dip and it’s amazing!!
Jicama is good freshly sliced in salads, stir fry, or raw as a snack. This was awesome you guys! I’m looking forward to picking up your recommendations soon!

Again, living in the EU I have no access to any of these, but I always love your videos so much I choose to torture myself with fun vegan options you have in the US :D I must also say, I much more prefer you just incorporating these products into your daily life than stuffing your faces with all of these at once- must be much more comfortable for you! . Romesco is a dipping sauce from Catalonia. We use it to dip in "calçots" (these long grilled onions). It's amazing!! The traditional version doesn't have that much of a kick though!

Great idea! On its own, I did not enjoy it, because I found it to be way too sweet. I think some berry sauce would help balance the flavor immensely.
