The Aquanaut was something my uncle told me about, but I didn't knew what it was until now. He started in Waukegan in 1968 and worked there until his layoff in 1985. Assembly left Waukegan in 1982, and went down south. I forget if it went to Andrews, Calhoun or both.

Very good condensed history. OMC made some good motors in the 50's and 60's especially their small 1 and 2 cylinder designs. Most of the improvements and changes they made to the model line had been developed and implemented years before by Mercury. Their V-4 models in the 60's and early 70's suffered from inconsistent quality and reliability. They did excel in corrosion resistance and were early in the stern drive development.

My mom's sister's husband worked for Mercury in the marketing department, he represented the company at trade shows. He knew a lot about OMC motors, and why they failed. He is also an expert on snowmobiles.

I knew a Mercury mechanic in the 80's. He said that OMC motors were absolutely superior to Mercury from the 60's through that time. Said it wasn't even close.
      Then came Ficht... :(

Aqui no Brasil 🇧🇷com gasolina 85 actanos 30% etanol os OMC que duravam mais eram os fluxos cruzados. Os carregados em espiral eram mais propensos a auto ignição.
