Starling Roost Review - The Most Fun Hardtail Going?!

For their first hardtail, Starling wanted to put out an offering that would stand the test of time and satisfy the needs of riders who want to add a hardtail to their stable to compliment a full suspension bike. For this they opted to make their Roost hardtail from stainless steel tubing, which is manufactured by frame builder giants Ora in Taiwan to offer high production quality with the stainless steel material with a more economical price tag. This material crucially doesn’t rust, so Starling offers it exclusively in a raw paint finish, which should stand up to the test of time on the trails.
The Dirt
We’re not hardtail lovers here at The Loam Wolf - our knees have been subjected to enough abuse as it is. However, from time to time a hardtail will catch our eye and convince us to get truly acquainted with the trail below. Between the mullet wheel setup and looks of the bare stainless steel frame, the Starling Roost convinced me to give in and accept the occasional full body battering, and I can’t pretend like I didn’t enjoy it.

Yes, keep on reviewing Hardtails! They rock! (your knees ;-)
They can be fun for sure!
Only if the trail is pretty smooth. They're great for jumping and parks and some urban assault, but they're hard to love when things get even moderately rough. Love the speed, though.
Hell yea!! More hardtails and less motors.....
We'll try for more of both!
Yes! More hardtails, less e bikes! 🤘🏻😂
Why not both! 🤘🏼
Yeah, FUCK E-BIKES 👍
Great looking bike.
It really is!
Awesome bike lovet
I was wondering if and when you would review hardtails lol 😂 this bike looks good
We allow it from time to time! Haha. Another slightly different hardtail review coming soon.
@@TheLoamWolf that’s cool a little bit of diversity never hurts and I saw the other one on your website looks really good too I like it keep up the good work
@@TheLoamWolf very nice, excited for another ht review!
Much better than all your moped reviews ..that being said hows this compare to the trans am
Had a ride on one of these at the malverns classic, want one!
They're pretty sweet!
I've been wanting this bike for a long time, but medium was always out of stock.
Kingdom vendetta x3 was the same scenario (but when it did come in stock, prices raised)
Almost did a radical bike Chili dog(but didn't want steel)
Ended up doing a custom TI frame(soft tail) based on these bikes, and somehow ended up closer to geo of a chromag doctahawk(unknown to me till after I got my frame lol)
Hope you’re enjoying the custom bike! 🤘🏼
@@TheLoamWolf I am, thank you
I love the feel of a hard tail, but wanted more compliance.
Always felt Full suspension muted/dumbed down the trails too much...soft tail ended up giving me what I wanted.
Bent cranks or pedal axles is just a fact of life on a HT you send .. (at least unless you use DH cranks then limited choice anyway in 73mm) then you’re just putting the stress through the BB and wheels .. something is going to give
Far preferable to them snapping ..
great bike! but keyword "chainstay" ... my kona taro (29"!) has 419mm chainstays with lot of clearance. sadly not steel
There are pros and cons to short chainstays for sure. This bike felt well balanced with plenty of mud clearance, but could have been more playful of course with a slightly tighter rear end
@@TheLoamWolfI've got 412mm on my Mullet Honeymaker and I run 3.0 tires 🤔
Too expensive for a hardtail, there are much cheaper & very good quality hardtails out there, much much more 🤪
4K to 4,5K.... Yeah, no crazy money then!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
