Lunchbox friends really hits deep with me because I have this Toxic “best friend “ who is only nice to me when she wants money or when we’re at lunch probably because her dads there at the school but my other friend who I actually am best friends with saw my distress and she said that she will have a talk with...but for real she really make me feel worthless sometimes she even straight out called me dumb...like really?!? I actually cried once because of her I was hiding in the bathroom so she couldn’t see it...all I’m saying is F Toxic friends just leave them to rot.
Omg same! (I'm a girl btw, in just using another account though), I had a toxic best friend in 2019 and she was exactly like the one fake friend you just explained, another thing is, she acted nice to me infront of teachers, etc. But trust me she was so fake, she called me all sorts of things (even though I never believed them and would never allow myself to, which I suggest you do the same thing about not caring about people's opinions/insults and do whatever you want girl :). Anyways basically she called me things like ugly, fat (even though I wasn't), "flat". Then towards the end of the year, I was like, you know what? F her, she was only ever was nice to me for money and food because she's pretty greedy, but if I ever asked for the same thing, which I never did, bro I bet she would have flipped😒 . Anyways after I cut her out of my life, by basically telling another close friend about her, and she had a talk with her (a very sassy, defensive talk, lol). And after that, the toxic B**** finally left me alone (thank God), but I also wanted to know WHY she was fake to me in the first place. Long story short: it turns out that she was jealous of me that entire time, and that the times she thought I was really pretty she would call me ugly instead, because, according to her "she was jealous of my beauty" and that I "had a better body than her", so she called it fat, etc. So yeah. Important lesson: don't hang on to your fake friends and just cut them out of your life already, trust me, you'll end up saving yourself from so much toxicity, and another thing is, don't listen to what anyone says about you. You are beautiful in your own way.
Also, sorry you had to go through that with that fake friend, hope you're doing better now and you deserve much more than feeling bad. Stay safe ❤
Something similar happened to me, she was only nice to me when she thought I’d leave her, I was only there for her to branch off her problems on to me. She turned my friends against me so I’d be completely dependent on her and be scared to leave. I had no where else to go except stay with her, she always told lies about our mutual friends and told them I said them in the first place, I only ever found out about this when I asked them about it. The girl and I got in a big argument and she somehow made me feel guilty and think it was entirely my fault, I’ll take the blame for some things because I did have a little part in them. After she stopped being my friend she started a rumor with the schools “nice kid” that I’d tried to break in his house, everyone trusted him because he was nice to everyone, and just like that almost everyone was against me, a few people believed me since they didn’t know me well, but they knew me well enough to know I wouldn’t break into someone’s house. Soon enough the drama passed and people grew to trust me, I got new friends, old friends back, and the girl, she said sorry and came up with a fake excuse. I forgave her, she hurt me but everyone deserves another chance, I can tell she didn’t mean it, she just had been through a lot, not an excuse, but a bit of an explanation. She got shamed and her mother promotes gossip and even gossips with her. Not cool.

Btw the fake friend you were experienced had similar traits to mine, she tried to act nice only when I was about to leave and stop being her friend, spread rumours about me to other people so she can get them to turn against me! So I guess most fake people have similar traits, particularly the fact that they want you to depend on them by turning others against you, etc. Also the one that was fake me had depression and was "cutting" at home, again (similar to what you said) it's not an excuse but an explanation. Since she just decided to pick on me because I was an easy target since I was quiet and didn't really defend myself so she found me as an easy victim to take her anger out on. Which really affected me too in return so that's why we can't really NOT blame her. Sure both of our fake friends were going through stuff, but understanding their problems does not condone that what they did to us "was not wrong" because it wa wrong, it was also still their fault. Everybody goes through stuff, and no matter what they went through. They had a choice. And they chose to hurt us.
