It is really great you posting very specific ideas/tips!
Thanks :) Glad you enjoy
Also, pro tip: a shaker is an incredibly cheap instrument. if you don’t have a basket of these in the studio to record with, you should! Especially if you want a less “clinical” result than this. (This tutorial is excellent but the end result is extremely polished and styled.)
I generally record 16 bars of shaker and then layer/pan/side chain/saturate/phase distort. Tambourine in particular is surprisingly difficult to get right with samples, you might be surprised how good a $30 tambourine sounds with an SM57!
It’s faster this way too
Absolutely a great idea! Even just to add a subtle layer to your own loops to add humanization :)
This is an excellent video, thank you! I know videos like "How to make music like . . ." probably get the most clicks, but people like me that are trying to seriously improve our skills get the most benefit from a focused video like this. Thanks again.
Totally agree 💯
Thank you! You are welcome :)
I have a nice tip to add to this. If you go to the individual hits and activate the LFO on random Sine. Then go to controls, inactive the LFO Trigger (the Yellow R button) and in the same LFO section raise the volume to around 15-20 percent and the pitch to around 3-5 percent (adjust to taste)
every hit will be slightly different.
Nice one! Thanks
Cool man, you ripped through that. lot of info in short time. Well edited. Will be pausing per instruction if need be. Thank you & Rock on!
Glad you liked it!
Nice tute. I'm gonna try this with my DNB productions 👍
Awesome!
Wow just came across your channel today, these videos are absolute gold!! Feel like I'm actually making some meaningful progression to the high quality production that other artists are able to achieve. Keep up the great work!! Thanks a million, honestly
Really glad to hear that :) Make sure to check the description as well, some free downloads in there that might help, and some info on some other things you may benefit from.
Dont remember if I already commented on this but Ill do it again. This is awesome! I keep comming back here :)
Thank you !
Great video! I like to use slightly more aggressive grooves than I think I will need, like Swing MPC Funker 16ths 60 or Swing MPC Double Down 16ths 60, then dial back the amount of swing globally using the timing setting within the groove pool. 100% is the full swing per the groove, 0% is completely straight. I think of it like dry/wet but for groove instead of effect. The great thing about doing it this way is you can globally adjust later if you want to experiment with a little more or less swing through the track. I often use two separate grooves and apply them to different parts if I need to adjust the swing on batches of grooves. Remember, you can right click a track and use the "select track content" option to select all midi clips in that channel then change which groove is applied. Once you find grooves you like, you can save them all in your song template so they are ready to go whenever you need them :)
Cool, love making great shakers in Techno.
Insanely good video! Thanks for sharing this helped me out a lot!❤
My pleasure!
brilliant video. thank you
Using these techniques in my DnB tunes and it's sounds way better
Nice one!
You make it look so easy!! Thanks Dowden.
Thank you!

You are welcome!

Thank you!
Nice one! Cheers for taking the time for this 👌🏻
My pleasure!
Supercool! Many thanks!
You are welcome!
THIS is the tutorial I've been looking for 😁
Glad to hear!
this is very good tutorial, learning a LOT FROM IT...
Glad to hear!
the thing is that by adding so many sounds i end up in a big messy thing, i like to keep thing minimalist as it feels it feeling the track so much and so much easier for now, thanks for the sound design course...
Fantastic stuff. Full of gems!
Thanks!
Great tips! I would like to see something towards the arramgement of such organicÍ/melodic house tracks, in terms of filter and other automations, transitions, how to create good drops etc
Always learning little tips to integrate. thanks!
no problem!
Well done. Very helpful! ❤
Thanks!
Organic House/Deep House producer? Learn how to make that warm sub bass (like in All Day I Dream tracks) here: czcams.com/video/TTIon9_pRHQ/video.html
Very informative and helpful. Thank you
My pleasure!
Great focused video, learned a lot thank you 🙏🏾
Thanks!
Dow! Brother! The information you share is always great! Thank you so much! I love your videos and your music!
Thank you so much! :)
Amazing content! thank you
thanks!
Awesome video thanks a lot
Thanks!
Wow!!! Didn't think I would enjoy this Shaker Masterclass as I did. Thanks Dowden.
Amazing class, thank you a lot. Would like to see another one focusing on hats also! For progressive/organic house. Cheers
🔥🔥🔥
Nice info thanks 👌☮
My pleasure!
Great video. Usually, I spend a few seconds grabbing a loop for Shaker instead of spending so much time producing it. Maybe next time I can try making it myself, it should be quite fun.
Thanks! yeah worth a try!
Always wondered what progressive people do to have those shakers. Thanks :)
great Video !
Thanks!
Thanks for showing us what can be done using this technique! Greetings from Argentina, Dowden.
Thanks and you are welcome!
Yaaah Dowden!! I always struggle with shakers :( thx for the tips man
My pleasure!
earned a sub
Woo!
Great video. I actually learned a lot. Your end result was a little busy for the sound I’m looking for but good tips overall
Thanks!
thx bro
You are welcome :_
What should I cover next? Comment below!
I would love to hear your take on structure with the drum line along the track! Thats something i always have some trouble, specially with going into breakdowns or bridges. Congrats on the 15k! Keep it up :)
This is really cool, do you have any deep house drum tutorials, cool sound on the drums
Do you ever do any gating?
I don't use gating much. Not necessary usually. But yes I do have tons of videos! Check my channel :)
cool tips ! much more professional ;)
Thank you!
Very nice tutorial. You do know that the haas effect will mess up your mono signal right?
I feel like there isn't too much need for high hats after this. Like maybe one or two to reinforce the shaker rhythm, but not much. Correct me if I'm wrong... Amazing tutorial as always, thanks so much!
Yeah for sure! and thanks :)
@@DowdenProductionAcademy Dude, I need to give you credit and thanks. I've been producing for so long, and production-wise, they always sounded good, but they were always lacking interesting parts and depth. Well, after watching this and applying it, and after watching your Guy-J video, my productions have gone from sounding amateur to sounding pro. Thanks so much for posting this stuff!
@@AnthonyHuttley Ahh that makes me so happy to hear! I have more videos coming out that I think you'll enjoy :)
Goatden
i saw you have many folders with swing & groove....from where can i get them ?
They come with Ableton :) I have Suite version 11.2 at the moment. Maybe it only comes with Suite?
👍
8:23 before, after should be swapped...
Should they? Why? :P
if it takes plus 18 minutes to do it im not interested matey
That’s okay, these things take time to do, and even longer to teach. But I suggest changing your mindset otherwise you’ll likely struggle in writing music efficiently!

This seems like an awful lot of steps to go through to achieve a result that's so dull and lousy.
With that attitude you will never become a talented producer. Some things can be achieved easily, while others take a lot of time to craft the fine details. Especially in this specific genre where details are important.
Please share the loops you've created that don't sound 'dull and lousy', I'd love to hear them :)
What is it that our mothers and grandmothers used to say….oh! It’s “if you can’t say something nice…”
I can’t remember the rest. What was it?
Or… use a microphone and a few actual shaker overdubs.
Why not both?
@@DowdenProductionAcademy true. Need More shakers!
Sounds abletonish… not so great
Define 'abletonish' 😅
@@DowdenProductionAcademy exactly your sound.. robotic like adam beyer etc
@@sjcongo being compared to Adam Beyer? I'll take that as a compliment! Even if our styles are very different haha
@@DowdenProductionAcademy i like more organic dark tribal style
Zoomer with white plugs and a pink beanie - NOPE. DON'T RECOMMEND CHANNEL.
Whaaaat?
