      Hi Abdelwahab, thanks for your feedback. As a GP trainee you can work locum shifts in Hospital. You will need to check with the hospital if there are any restrictions and have indemnity cover to work locum.

    If you're still up to the idea of making a video on the challenges of being a GP I think it would be very helpful.
    I've heard that the worst part is the paperwork/admin a GP has to deal with.From your experience,how bad is it?

    • @DrErwinKwun
      @DrErwinKwun  Před 4 lety +2

      Thanks for your question George Kappa. Admin and paperwork are certainly part and parcel of what GPs have to deal with. In every career there are things you have to do that may not be exciting. Paperwork and admin are manageable as long as you are organised and keep on top of the work. If someone catastrophizes something, the perception of the problem becomes bigger than it is in reality.

    • @ezinneerhirhieneeukaogo1439
      @ezinneerhirhieneeukaogo1439 Před 4 lety

      If you ask me, I'd say the admin work trains GPs for leadership positions, which also involve lots of paper work!

  • @drneenuchandramohan2121

    Thank you for the video Dr Erwin. I have some queries regarding GP training.
    1) After GP training, how long does it take to secure a job as a GP?
    2) Can I specialise in any particular field of medicine after GP training, for eg, if i want to pursue a career in dermatology or oncology or aerospace medicine, is it possible to do that?

    • @DrErwinKwun
      @DrErwinKwun  Před 4 lety

      Jobs for GP are available across the UK. It depends what jobs you want. GP OOH, locum or salaried jobs. Generally registrars in their final year can easily secure a salaried job in the practice they trained if there is a vacancy. It can take a few weeks to several months to secure a job. You can definitely pursue a career in any field you want after GP training.

    Hello Dr erwin. Do we need to be working in Uk as SHO or like Fy2 to apply for GPST stage 1 as they are asking for right to work in uk. Or can we apply for Gpst stage 1 from overseas if we have foundation competencies signed from overseas. Also, they ask for driving license to apply for gpst stage 1. How important is driving license during gp training. Can we manage with public transport. How often do we drive during gp training. Would be thankful for your reply.

    • @DrErwinKwun
      @DrErwinKwun  Před 4 lety

      Hi Deepti, driving license is important because you will need to do home visits in GP. In that sense, public transport is not a convenient option. With regards to applying for GPST1 while abroad, I recommend emailing the recruitment team to clarify as I'm not sure.

      The basic salary for a newly qualified doctor in the UK is £27K. Doctors can earn more by working extra hours.

    If one goes to the less competitive areas to train, would there be discrimination between you and someone who trained in London

    • @DrErwinKwun
      @DrErwinKwun  Před 4 lety

      Someone trained in London may be more familiar with the system and may have an advantage when applying for jobs locally. Generally, training in less competitive area than someone trained in London is unlikely going to discriminate you as GP training is standardised across the UK.

    • @DrErwinKwun

      The annual salary for a GP registrar is in the range of 45-55K which is sufficient for a family to live well in the UK.
