- Off center turning with a scrap pine branch.
This woodturning video is a wood lathe project done off center to get an angled natural edge rim. This woodturning project was a lot of fun and turned out to be a beautiful little twig pot. This turning project is pretty basic and an easy first attempt at off center turning...and turned out to be a unique woodworking project. The wood is still a little wet so I didn't put finish on it so it can dry out some more. Then I will finish it with some oil.
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed this wood turning video.

@@RcWoodturning oh yes! It absolutely is. I'm not at all familiar with wood turning. Never seen this angled way. The end results are nice.
Yes!
Thank you!
Like I said your Skills are amazing.
Let me know if you will be teaching a class soon. If you do, I will be there !!
I appreciate that.
I'm definitely not a teacher.
I'm self taught and don't have any experience in teaching.
Very clever, gonna have to watch that a couple more times to get it right! Good one.
Thank you! Glad you like it.
Good luck on your project.

In a push button, instant gratification world it's nice to see that there are still other people who can take a stick from a wood pile and turn it into a piece of art!
Craftsmanship is a rarity now-a- days.
I've spent a lifetime working with my hands and never stopped learning new ways of applying what I've learned.
Finding anyone interested in learning how to work with their hands seems as impossible to find as chicken's teeth...
@@keithkimsten5111 Times certainly have changed. It's a shame that so many will never know the joy of creating something that is uniquely yours that you created with your own hands..
I gotta tell ya, there's nothing like it.
@@RcWoodturning agreed. I sign and date my work now that I'm retired as I don't have to please anyone but my bride of 49 years. (And myself on occasion... LOL)
I've been offered money for my work but I always refuse the cash as once I take the money my fun becomes a job, did that been there.
I like the smiles I get when I say to the people frowning because they can't buy my work as I tell them to Pick anything they want and take it home with them.
At my age money has lost its flavor but a smile and a thank you makes my day!
@@keithkimsten5111 I never have gotten around to signing mine. I should look into that.
Very nice. I’m surprised how nice the pine looks.
Thank you Eli!
I was surprised at the darker color in the middle. It makes a nice contrast.
I don't think people give pine enough credit.
I'm glad you like it!
I appreciate you watching!
...yep...I like it...👍
A nice little twig pot for a nice little pot twig...😨
Matt
Thank you Matt!
It ain't no big thing.
Appreciate you watching!
Very nice !
Thank you Sylvester!
Im going to whatch this a few times over😂😂😂😂 to get it right !
It's a pretty easy project.
Good luck if you give it a try.
Thanks for watching Vini!
Nice projects
Thank you!
Appreciate you watching!
Very nice piece. I think I might try your technique. I'm not sure that was pine, the heart wood reminds me of Cedar of Lebanon. Turned some of it a few months ago.
Thank you!
Ya I was really surprised by the color. But it is definitely pine. I cut the tree myself.
Thanks for watching!
how dd you dry it so it did not crack. I am new to lathe work and cracking is my bigest problum.
Sealing the endgrain slows down moisture coming out and helps prevent cracking.
another great vid can i ask if its ok with you if i try some off your projects please
Absolutely! That's why I post them.
Good luck with them.
Thanks for watching Susan!
Off center work is not new to me. Your work here confused me a bit after you went back to true centers. It wasn't until the end that I could appreciate your off center work. It turned out quite nice. I love the color of the heart wood. Are you sure that is pine? Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂 BTW for anyone interested in some really serious off center work do a search for Barbara Dill.
Yes Barbara dill is in a league of her own. I got the wood myself. It definitely was a pine branch. I don't know what kind of pine, but there were definitely pine needles.
I was going for an angled natural edge. I was pleasantly surprised how it turned out. Wasn't sure if it was going to work.
Thanks for watching Glen!
Always use a wooden or plastic mallet to set your drive spur so you don't damage the base
Get rid of the knit gloves they can be caught between your work piece and tool.test injuring your hand seriously if you must wear gloves wear thin.nalgene exam gloves they deflect chips but tear away if caught in spinning wood
I appreciate your concern.
Thank you.
