I felt the same way too. Also I've noticed The Beach sometimes symbolizes someone going downhill. Remember in The Assasination of Gianni Versace, Andrew Cunanan was walking along South Beach, Fl, the Mecca for the LGBT Community, he had hit rock bottom, he was broke, homeless, his "Friends" washed their hands of him, Versace gave him the brushoff and shortly afterwards he shot Versace. Then Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys was walking along The Beach in Santa Monica who had hit rock bottom on his 39th Birthday on December 4 1983. He was also broke, homeless, estranged from his Wife Shawn (whose Real Father was Mike Love), and although the Family tried their best and friends did as well, he kept hurting folks and on Xmas Day he was Homeless and on December 28 he would die in a Drug and Alcohol related Accident. On 2013 Dennis's Grandson Michael would be born.
Dunno if the character is the same in the book , but in that movie despite he's an addict, despite he slept with his friend's GF , you can't help finding that character touching ... RDJ is rly fantastic in that movie not rly the case for the rest of the cast (a bit too mellow ) except James spader . I think it seems that A Mc Carthy isn't in the same movie ... RDJ and Spader give a darker performance IMO , more interesting... McCarthy and the girl (sorry forget her name) play like in a teenage drama...
1:51 really breaks my heart 😭 Julien was so alone. He needed so much support during this particular chapter of his life. Especially after how his record deal business didn't work out. He just really needed someone to help him. Bless Blair for taking care of him when he went through his withdrawals and wanting to care and protect him, going as far as calling her ex in hopes that they would be able to help her save Julien through such a dark time. Especially since she herself was dealing with her addiction. They both deserved so much better. Especially Julien
RDJ made a "serious comeback" in real life, one of the most amazing, heartening & inspirational of comebacks (beautifully transcendent). From skid row & jail to the World's highest paid actor in the Iron Man Series. Very inspirational!
This is an excellent, heart wrenching film about the consequences of drug addiction for the addict and everyone in their circle. Why it was severely underrated, I will never know. It is compelling and with watching. RDJ shines.🎬❤️🎬
I have fought through drug and alcohol addiction most of my life. With the help of God and family that helped me, I made it through. Been sober for the last 14 years. This movie really hits a nerve.
I must add: This film really touches me because it actually represents Sr. RDJ.Now thats what I call a true & honest friend: In good & bad times Sr. Andrew M.
In this scene RJD dominates this tiny little part of the rock he is sitting on. He moves like Buster Keaton. The other actor can barely keep up with him.
lol how silly. its not like he had to try very hard. he was basically playing himself. now he spends all of his time defending trashy ass men and their behavior because theyre his bros
He was very lucky. HE got a Second Chance, he was "Forgiven" and got a major Comeback. Hollywood is notorious for not forgiving folks. The Two Coreys tried so hard to Come Back but it never came into fruition. Also at The Kennedy Center Honors when Elton John was Inducted, he told the audience how helpful and supportive was to him. He and Justin Timberlake did great Jobs Lip Synching to "This Train Don't Stop Here Anymore" and "I Want Love". Another person who would have been really good is Soap Actor Billy Miller who played Billy Abbott #5 on The Young & The Restless.
It's so heartbreaking, you can try to help someone over and over and they continuously screw up. Dick Gregory offered to help Marvin Gaye do a Hard Core Detox. It was before Betty Ford's Rehab Clinic gained Steam. Marvin was supposed to come to Dick's Ouse, he didn't come by and Dick was very angry at him. A couple of days later before his 45th Birthday, he dies on April Fool's Day. In 1979 his Buddy Smokey Robinson wisely refuses to lend him $5000.00 for Drugs, Marvin moves to Belgium for Three Years and stays Clean, finding solace in God but comes back when his Mother got sick.
