@@liedersanger1 I see no fun in it. All I see is ignorance and disrespect. Anyone who thought that clapping their hands was going to make this performance better needs to step down and think again. There's a talented artist who put a lot of work preparing this, please just be quiet and listen. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's always wrong for the crowd to take part in a performance. But there are styles and places for this. Sometimes the artist is even calling for it. Here, none of these conditions were met.
Incroyable Bruce Liu. Bravo l'artiste !! Jmarc
He played so that you have something to write about. Bruce can afford to do that. Great, keep it up. Be yourself in music too. Music is about emotions, not styles.
Wonderful ! This is Encore - Beethoven: For Elise (arranged by Ethan Uslan) from Chopin Institute. Title: "Bruce Liu, Vasily Petrenko, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra-18th International Music Festival"

Ethan Uslan goes concert hall. Goes to show how stuffed WITH the same old routine and how starved classical audiences are FOR crossovers. Great business opportunity for savvy concert pianists who know how to read the signs of the times and dare to take the Road Not Taken or Less Travelled By.
😂 As a classical pianist and organist for more than 1/2 century, this has been, and still is, usually one of THE very first ‘classical’ pieces a beginner is taught. BUT this fellow is having fun with this style (vs interpretation), and it’s very cute! It’s somewhat similar to what I’ve seen some other 🎹ists do with this same one (and other classical ones too) that are called ‘nightmare’ versions. If anyone makes a remark about THIS not being ‘Fur Elise’ as composed/written and makes critical remarks, then they have NO sense of humor whatsoever imo! In fact, I think it takes more talent to play it like he does than it takes to play it in the original, classical style❗️* I’m not positive which category I would put this in, but it sounds like it could possibly be in Stride or Ragtime.
@@Sim-ep5v I just saw your comment on mine, and I don’t intend to sound, or be, critical of your opinion. However, I still believe that he’s ‘improvising’ and NOT ‘interpreting’ this piece. From a pianist’s perspective I say this bc there is definitely a difference between the two meanings - and how they affect the sound of a piece being played, in addition to what type of performance it is. For instance - this one is NOT by any means done in a ‘classical’ manner, nor are the ‘nightmare’ versions of it (as I brought up in my original comment). It’s fine with me that you have a different impression than I do - I don’t judge! Whatever music a person likes is ok - the point that’s most important is that they enjoy music in one way or another!
@@marksierra7920 Ok, I agree with part of your remark. But it’s still a deviation from the original classical piece! This, imo still makes it an ‘improvisation’ as such. Whether it was re-written/‘arranged’ by someone else that he’s playing is beside the point - generally speaking.
He plays a wrong note in the last measure before the first ending at the end of the first statement of the theme. This is commonly done and it drives me crazy. It is supposed to be D C B A and he plays E C B A. If he wants to have fun with it, fine, but at least quote the original theme properly. That 7th in the melody has much more character and is real Beethoven.
Just being honest: I feel this particular arrangement (not the performer) takes away from both the jazz feel and fur elise leaving only some sort of empty shell of 'sound bites'.
woaw this guy is astonishing ! what a gift of the nature !
The smiles of the audience and the orchestra speak to the splendor. great performance !
Saw him perform this encore with the San Francisco Symphony on May 13, 2023 - awesome!
Hahah...me too! The entrance was even funnier since he was playing Beethoven 3rd immediately before this encore.
the awkward clapping for 2 seconds when the jazzy part started was painful
It’s called F U N.

I think it’s hilarious that the crowd unanimously knows it’s a meme for a pianist of his caliber to play Für Elise
whats the joke?

@pianoman 1 I think it it his version. Different inflection, but note for note it’s so close 🤷🏻♂️
I wonder how I played it so differently...
Never has jazz been this polished and so beautifully interpreted from a classical taste!
Its disgusting. This guy has no rhythm

That must have been because of a lost bet in a game. (Só pode ter sido dívida de jogo)
It’s more like a Ragtime….. not really jazz. Anyway, it’s entertaining 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I don't think that he is improvising. Sounds more like written and learned.

Well, this is jazz improvisation, so any notes will do!
Any jazz fan will tell you this is a stride version, not a jazz version. To my mind, a “jazz version” would have improvisation.
Bruce Lee's brother refused to learn Kung Fu and took piano instead....

Bruce has this “live and let live attitude “. He doesn’t care, as long as he is happy with himself.
