That'd what I expect out of cpm s30v steel. Edges last forever compared to 420. I've kept the same crooked river as my edc and it still shaves after a year of no sharpening
HighCarbonSteel Love as of this moment I love the fit and feel! Unfortunately I haven’t gotten a chance to actually put it to use yet. I will soon though!

@@mattiethesurfer if you're replying to me, I'm very impressed with it. I've put it through hell and it can handle anything I throw at it. The spine is a great touch, great for ferro rod use and batoning. The grind is ideal for what the knife was designed for and I just can't get enough of it. Others have complained about the sheath but I really don't mind it and I personally love the look and feel of it.
Great video. After watching it I went out and bought my own 162 and I absolutely love it. You really can’t beat American knives, in my opinion, and Benchmade is one the best knife makers out there.

I like those large holes in the handle. They lend themselves to tying it to a pole to use it as a spear. Not that I would do that, but it's nice to have options. It looks like a real handy knife. Thanks Dave.
After drooling over this knife and fondling them in stores since I first saw one a few years ago, I finally bought one last week at my local BM dealer store! They were having a store wide 20% off sale and it included their outdoor gear, so I jumped at the chance to own it for $152. I've been doing a remodel for a friend and he is paying me very well, so I couldn't pass it up. I'm going out to the local lake for a few days this week and will put it Edge-2-Edge with my Spyderco Bushcraft UK.
You got an excellent deal on a great knife, my friend! Glad to hear the remodel is going well for you! Let me know how the comparison goes between the 2 outstanding knives, Dano! -Dave
After having the BM-162 over the summer going Edge-2-Edge with my Spyderco Bushcraft-UK, I decided that it's a great knife but the ergonomics just weren't as comfortable as my Bc-UK. So after 9 months of heavy use I traded it in one of my facebook knife groups for a Spyderco "Q" and some other gear. It's great for all given tasks, but probably suitable for someone with larger hands (I wear medium sized gloves)! I happened across this video again and decided to let you know.
A nice gift, that will last a life time, I know it will the way you look after it, I love the easy way you show us your youtube family, the items you find important and of value and use. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your kind words, Dave! I really appreciate that and it's great to have you here! Actually, I call them red liners, as well...haha. It's Benchmade that calls them 'red vulcanized liners'. -Dave
I have one. I lost a 162. Promptly replaced it. I’ve tried many times to talk myself into buying a different “bushcraft” style knives but have been unable to find a reason to. It’s a great knife that comes with a great sheath.
Good review. Lots of choices of bushcrafter knives out their and I mean a lot. His actions speak louder than words and the knife stands on its own merits. Of all the videos reviews of the BB 162 this was the best. I purchased the BB 162 today and look forward using it on my next outdoor adventure.
Hey Dave - EXCELLENT REVIEW! You demonstrated some nice skills in the testing. I subscribed to your channel. I already have the Benchmade 162, and I'm debating whether or not to get the new BM 163 Bushcrafter. Thanks for your review.
Really can't find a downside to this design. And Dave, you are one of the very few YT hosts who actually does a long term update on gear. They all say they will, but most never do.
Thank you for watching and leaving your very nice comment, Charles! I feel long term updates on gear is very important, especially because I don't buy gear often, so what I do have gets a lot of hard use. Great to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
I changed the Benchmade Bushcrafter 162 knife carrier, cut myself with the old sheath. It’s a keeper, never had no problems after that, it has not been sharpened yet. The cost is very worth it, i hear negative from bushcraft people. It’s 100% effective. Totally awesome for my forestry work. 🙏
Man I love mine.. I catch myself just holding and admiring it all the time.. I do think it's more of a survival blade than a bushcraft, but as you said, it'a a jack of all trades. I've butchered pigs and deer with it and then a mess of squirrels that evening.. when I washed it off, IT STILL popped the hair off my arm... It's actually a perfect knife ..the handle feels weird at first, then when you use it awhile for different things, it all makes sense. It's a crying shame that Benchmade discontinued it..... I woulf absolutely buy another one when I ran across it.. id like a tan version.. Shane seibert, the designer , makes a custom version too. But it's all the way expensive
Great review of a great knife. It has, by far, the most comfortable of all my knives. That shape with the angles feels like they made it specifically for me. Been using it regularly for a couple of years and have sharpened it only a few times, usually just needs a stropping to bring it back.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Hue! I agree...not only is it very comfortable but it takes very little to bring the edge back to shaving sharp! -Dave
very pleasant video. thank you for sharing. Just bought a Benchmade 162 Bushcraft knife. I must say, I found the last "dangler" (extender for the belt loop) it extends the knife a little lower, enabling it to stop poking me in the kidney. I appreciated watching your video. p.s. I subscribed.
I've always been drawn to that knife it just looks like it wants to be used😉 Sure would be cool to see Benchmade make a scandi version series, that would really get my attention, might sale my dogs and a one of my kids to get one ROFL😅
A scandi version of this knife would be excellent, however, this type of grind seems to really fit this knife and it's versatility. Very nice to hear from you, my friend! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave
Thank you for watching! Interestingly enough, I thought the handle would be weird but I found it quite comfortable. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave

Not that i don't like my Mora's but i needed a robust knife. Thank you David for taking the time to make this video. Best regards -Yves : )

Haha..I know what it's like to have items camping out in your cart for a long time! I think you would love this knife! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave
That is a NICE knife. I make danglers using a survival bracelet through the D ring. It works great, I don't have to take my belt off, and have extra cordage if needed. I use Hi-vis orange so I will not lose my knife as easily. I really enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.
Sounds like an excellent system you have made, my friend! I really enjoy that you take the time to watch my friend! Thank you for the kind, encouraging words and please don't be a stranger! -Dave
Another well done video. Thanks! The 162 is a very handy knife indeed. I make dangler's for my sheaths with a survival bracelet (and D ring or paracord). I don't have to take my belt off and have extra cordage if needed. I don't care for high riding sheath's much, esp. when wearing a coat.
Thank you for the kind words! Sounds like an excellent dangler system you have there, my friend! I agree about the sheaths that ride high and I love to get out in the winter so compensating for a coat is very important! -Dave
I enjoyed the report. I too have had this knife for a little more than a year, great knife, great handle design, awesome steel. I had to get a double grit diamond stone to re-profile the secondary edge(too steep for my whittling taste), once that was done, OMG!! What a fantastic blade. The only downfall for me was the sheath. Simply too soft/supple, I don't like the twisting/wobbling while it's on my side. It did surprise me though on the abuse it can take, I have scratches all over the sheath for rough carry and it still holds the knife fine.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! The sheath is a bit funny, however, it has actually grown on me over time. It definitely takes some good abuse and as long as I am mindful, dropping the knife back in isn't really a problem. You are right, it is some soft leather, though. -Dave
Thank you, Louise! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your very nice comment! It's definitely a heavy duty knife and Nathan is awesome! Great to hear from you and I hope to talk with you again soon, my friend! -Dave
Excellent video as always my friend. I have wanted this knife for 2 years now. I think this will be the year. It will be the most expensive knife I've ever bought aside from a custom Damascus blade I have in my safe. But it seems worth the money. Every reviewer I have ever seen loves it. THNX
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, my friend! I think you will love this knife and find it worth the money! High quality, excellent edge retention and steel and made right here in the USA! -Dave
Lansky deluxe guided diamond sharpener.. make or get a strop and compound. Just get the sharpener. You'll never regret it. It's about 80 bucks.. just do yourself a favor and get it.. when you install the rods on the hones, make sure the rod is square with the face of the hone.. do this by putting the rod on the hone, the placing the one on a flat surface, eyeball the rod and assure the gap is even.. There are videos on how to use it.. the biggest thing is to make sure the rod is square so it guides the hone straight.. its hard to explain with words bur its easy to do that.. once you do, the sharpener does the work.. make sure you get the diamond kit.. it last longer and the hones stay flat. Stones wear . Make sure you get the strop and compound too.. this saves your knife from having to be sharpened all the time.. the quality steel used in this knife means you will rarely have to sharpen it because you can keep it hair popping sharp for a long time with just the strop... The strop is the key to getting that scary demonically sharp edge.... The lansky sets the edge, gets it sharp, and that strop refines and polishes that edge and it will be SCREAMING sharp
It's 2020 and I was looking at a Jacklore custom. Or a bark river bravo 1. But I'm going tomorrow to REI and picking up the 162. I love my benchmade pocket knives so I'll see how this is against my other fixed blade's
Very Nice I carry Benchmade Pocket Knives, never even thought of them for a Fixed Blade. My Fixed Blade I normally Carry is Pathfinder Scout and a Mora on Back as Backup.
Thanks for the awesome video man. You sealed the deal for me as I have been looking at this knife for weeks. Its a little on the pricey side but seems worth every penny. Thanks again bud.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment Nicholas! I think you will absolutely love this knife and I am glad to be of some assistance! Let me know what you think when you pick one up! -Dave
If you'd like to avoid using the key ring entirely, all you need to do is weave the maxpedition strap through the d-ring and then attach the clip end directly to a belt loop on your pants. It even works if you're not wearing a belt because you're not attaching anything to a belt.
The key ring was to keep the dangler a bit more balanced but you are right, I could probably just lose the key ring. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
That is an excellent price for a great knife! Sometimes our jobs provide great benefits! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
Good morning David, hope you are having a good day. I really enjoyed watching your knife review, it was very good. I think the knife is very well made and built to last. My only concern is that i find double bevel hard to sharpen and would like this knife in a Scandinavian grind. I like your bow drill and feather sticks are excellent. Kind regards David
I hope you are having a good day, as well, David! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment! A scandi grind is my favorite, however, this secondary bevel is very easy to touch up and the edge retention is excellent! Nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Dave, thank you for another video. That is a beautiful knife for sure. Have you ever considered reviews of old school camping gear? Things like Coleman white gas stoves and lanterns or Buck knives like the 110 or 119. You may already own some of the gear and if not I bet you could barrow most of the items. Sometimes I like to use the older stuff I remember from my youth. Back then things were made to last and if they stopped running you bought the parts and fixed them vice the disposable philosophy we have now. Just a thought. Sometimes older gear can be better gear. Take care.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment, Scott! I have never thought about reviewing older gear but if I am ever in the market, I will definitely give it some thought, my friend! -Dave
Very cool! My old man bought all his coleman gear in 1974 he takes impeccable care of his stuff, keeps it in original boxes ect. His white gas stove and lantern still stored in original box still looks and works like a champ!!! I remember using them from as long as I can remember as they we bought far before I was even born, but I kid you not they look darn near brand new and work the same yet today! I still use one of the sleeping bags from 74 to this day every year deer and turkey hunting. They certainly have seen better days and the last one left that I'm using is in rough shape but I just can't get myself to get something else. Far too much sentiment!
Buck 110 folders are almost a right of passage. They have such a tradition and nastalga to them! That is really neat to hear this stuff brought up. I still carry in my hunting pack every year the same one my father bought me back in 93ish!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! I think you will absolutely love this knife! Keep me posted on what you think when you pick one up! -Dave
Nice follow Dave! Always liked the looks of this knife. And I'm all about the dangler, so i appreciate your McDaverism with the D ring! 😉😀 Wonderful vid brother Be well Craig Sorry I'm just catching up on vids now. Lol

Hey Irene! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment! Definitely a solid, heave duty knife! I hope everything is going well for you and your family! -Dave
As alway, great video. Im aware that this is an older one, but took some time this morning to watch again. Your presentations are always thorough, detailed, and pleasant to watch. You also never come across as “all knowing” or arrogant. Just wanted to say thanks for your time in sharing. PS....ive purchased another Genesis for my field kit. Great blades 😁
Good vid Dave. Benchmade is coming to the Amarillo Knife Guys on Saturday. Would love to pick up a 162 an possible more Benchmade products. Good steel and proper treatment. Enjoy all your vids amigo. 73's

@@HighCarbonSteelLove I sure did. I've only had it for a little under a month, but I'm absolutely loving it. I can't even really put my finger on why! It just seems to work well for me. I was a little unsure about the handle, the first outing, but I've grown to appreciate it. It works great in any grip. This one has quickly moved to the top of the heap for me! It really is a fantastic design! Take care, and be safe!
Please make sure you handle one before buying. The handle is surprisingly square in shape. While good for anti-rotation, it turned me off immediately. You want a handle that fits you personally and that is much more important than the type of steel it is made of.
I've had and worked the knife a couple of years. Worked it hard and love it. Looking for some leather to make a better sheath. It comes out of the stock leather sheath much too easy!
Thats great to hear richard! I've always worked mine hard and love it, as well! Definitely lacking in the sheath category but it does the trick for me. I really like the leather but the design is a bit off for this knife. Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave

This is a fair review, especially coming from from someone with "High Carbon" in their name (usually Corbin lovers are extremely hard when it comes to this stuff). Well done, thanks. Lol 😆😂
I found this knife in stocks at Cabelas in Winnipeg and had to go check it out. It looked great but once in hand I found the grip not workable for my hands. That was a disappointment for me but as most folks realize, if it's not the right one, usually we look at it but it's going to see little use. I now own two Benchmade belt knives for specific purposes plus a folder, all in S30V steel. Fantastic support from these folks as well.
That is great to hear, David! How are you liking it! It has served me very well for the time I have owned it and it's very tough! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave

I've had this blade in my amazon cart for over a year. I need to pull the trigger on it already!
Haha..I know what it's like to have items camping out in your cart for a long time! I think you would love this knife! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave
Really enjoyed the video. Thank you. Waiting for mine in the mail!
This was a great video. Straight and to the point. Well done.
Great vid Dave, you gave us a great view and review of this knife. That's so impressive it looks like a hand made knife.Top marks, stay safe.
That is a NICE knife. I make danglers using a survival bracelet through the D ring. It works great, I don't have to take my belt off, and have extra cordage if needed. I use Hi-vis orange so I will not lose my knife as easily. I really enjoy your videos. Please keep them coming.
That's actually a pretty cool idea
-Dave
Another great demo Dave so informative! Nice gift Nathan sent you! I know you have used it often and its still in great shape!
Thank you, Louise! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your very nice comment! It's definitely a heavy duty knife and Nathan is awesome! Great to hear from you and I hope to talk with you again soon, my friend! -Dave
Your very welcome Dave!
Great video Dave. What an awesome gift. Looks to be a excellent knife. Have a great day my friend. Tennessee
I'm knew to this knifes and I just bought this knife 😂😂 But man you sure know how to use it. I just subscribed. Thanks for the video
Cool knife!
Thank you for watching, my friend! Not a bad knife at all! -Dave
I just bought this and I love it
Huh i never knew what feathering was until this vid. Neato skeeto!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend!
-Dave
Loved this! Would be great to see a video on how you sharpen it. Regards from New Zealand. Dan
Ooh I have one of these! Mine has the kydex sheath and a tan handle. Really beat the shit out of it and it just keeps going.
Very Nice I carry Benchmade Pocket Knives, never even thought of them for a Fixed Blade. My Fixed Blade I normally Carry is Pathfinder Scout and a Mora on Back as Backup.
Nice setup with a couple of nice knives you have there! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
-Dave
Thanks!
-Dave
Benchmade makes outstanding knives... great video
You are exactly right, Carlos! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! -Dave
NIce new video bushcrafting in the woods! :)

Hey my friend! Great to hear from you! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment! -Dave
Just purchased the bushmaster for the beginning of my emergency bag
Sounds like a great start to your emergency bag, Adam! Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
It did chip during its first use. Definitely not for chopping. Even soft wood.
Love mine! Got it for $90 bucks cause I worked out a camping backing store.
My only concern is that i find double bevel hard to sharpen and would like this knife in a Scandinavian
grind.
Why are there so many amazing bushcrafters on CZcams lol?
Thanks Dave. Appreciate the review. Going to get one.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! I think you will absolutely love this knife! Keep me posted on what you think when you pick one up! -Dave
Excellent review. Thanks.
Nice follow Dave! Always liked the looks of this knife. And I'm all about the dangler, so i appreciate your McDaverism with the D ring! 😉😀
Wonderful vid brother
Be well
Craig
Sorry I'm just catching up on vids now. Lol
Thank you for taking the time to stop by, Craig! Nice to hear from you, my friend! Actually, the dangler mod is stolen from snaponjohn100's channel..haha! I appreciate the kind words and look forward to talking with you again soon, brother! -Dave
I have really wanted to give 1 of these a try for years. But for the price I have so many others I just cant justify the purchase.
Thanks Dave You convinced me to Subscribe I love your enunciation!
excellent knife.

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Justin! I really appreciate the kind, encouraging words, my friend! -Dave

I sure did.
Great update, that sure seems like a good blade. Great video my friend.
Thank you for watching, Jade! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! Nice to hear from you! -Dave
-Dave
Awesome looking knife Benchmade makes some geart knifes.
Thank you for watching! I agree..Benchmade does make some excellent knives! -Dave
Thanks Dave! Another well made video. Love my 162(sheath could b better). I like to see how things hold up over time.
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, Troy! I didn't like the sheath at first, but it's actually grown on me. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! -Dave
Awesome review man, looks like a sweet knife I might pull the trigger on it. Been looking at if for a while. Have a good one brother!
Thank you for stopping by, brother! I appreciate the kind words and I think you would like this knife very much! If you pick it up, let me know how you like it! -Dave
Will do sir, keep up the quality reviews!
Thats a sweet avatar
Thank you! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Excellent review!
I got this knife today and had a Patriot Leather sheath made. I do not see the need to buy foreign made knives any longer
That is great to hear, David! How are you liking it! It has served me very well for the time I have owned it and it's very tough! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
I cut the d ring off my sheath and replaced it with a #4 niteize s-biner so it connects right onto the sheath then right onto my belt loop
Sounds like a nice setup! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! -Dave
Great review! I'm a new subscriber, but I've been impressed with your content. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for taking the time to watch, sub and leave your awesome comment, my friend! I really appreciate that it's great to have you here! -Dave

Great review Dave, and thanks! To give credit where it is due, I think it is YOUR ability to make feather sticks...the knife is just a tool!
Thank you for the very kind words, my friend! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by! -Dave
