Oh this was more like Creature Comforts than I was anticipating! Just a different way to get resources, which I guess is a big difference as that changes the main mechanic of the game. What did you all think were differences in the feel of the game? Was this truly a prototype or are there elements that will be in the final version? Looks like the cardboard resources may be a placeholder?
Components will be upgraded but overall gameplay is set with some minor tweaks. I really like creature comforts and I think I like maple valley better. The card management gives you more strategic choices and takes out the chance of the dice. The traveling around let’s you plan out future moves more than Creature Comforts did. We have a preview coming where we go into it more, but while it feels really familiar and has a lot of similar artwork and goals, it really stands on its own.
@@PlaytheGameHQ Oh wow. We really like the dice mechanic in Creature Comforts and I was thinking okay maybe Maple Valley could be one better enjoyed by our daughters. And presumed we’d likely like it less, as adults. But now you got me wondering if I have that all wrong!
@@Listan1 it’s hard to figure out how to put it…it’s a somewhat lighter game in that the card movement is simpler and less complex than trying to math out all of the dice, but I was also expecting an overall simpler/lighter game and it really doesn’t feel much lighter, just different and more straightforward. The patches and parties add layers to it and the locations up the middle of the board where you get maps and favors force you to think beyond just running around and loading up on resources. And it moves faster than Creature Comforts. Turns are quick and while the rounds get longer as the game goes on because you have more friends, it still moves at a good pace.
Thanks for the awesome playthrough! I used it to learn how to play the game, and it helped a lot! Maple Valley is such a fun game! I just got it to the table this weekend. I was wondering if you or anyone could give some possible clarification? If I started my turn with four maps in my pack and I used my Woodchuck friend to move, which says if you find a curiosity while traveling you may gain a map instead, I then moved one rock trail for the Woodchuck, then used my 4 maps to move 4 trails, but along the way I found a curiosity which I gained a map instead for the Woodchuck's ability, could I use that map I just found to move one extra time before ending my turn?
Is suggested age 8+ accurate ? Also too bad that these kinds of games are not language independent, as my native language is not English, and my daughter is 2 and a half years old now, so I wonder when I would be able to play Maple Valley and/or Creature Comforts.
I woudl say 8+ is pretty accurate. As for language dependence, I can't speak too much to what your experience would be, but while there is language dependence it does use icons where possible. The language on the cards you craft is pretty straightforward, "+2 if you also have..." and the friends are things like "If you forage for (wood icon) also gain (wood icon)", and many of the instructions are very repetitive with the specific items changed. There are the parties and patches, and the instructions seem to be pretty straightforward, but that's from a native english speaker perspective so I don't know what your experience would be. I do know they are making it available in multiple languages, but not sure exactly what they are, but I think it's on the Kickstarter page.
Looks shorty, Only 2 cards at start, it makes this game very quick. It's not bad however you need to think how to optimize every turn so it might be quit challenging for some.
I actually really like how quick the first couple of turns move - it does make you think really strategically about how to do the most with the limited number of cards.
Watching this made me want to back it. I don't have Creature Comforts, so this might be a fun game to add to the collection.
I love that Kickstarter exists! So many fun boardgames are born!! I love this one, just bought it and I also follow the boardgame Biome! 🤩
The production values as always *chef's kiss*
Great job team! This is definitely going to be the best Spring Festival ever!
you guys are hilarious and silly and i love it lol
We still need to play Creature Comforts, but excited for the campaign.
Love this!! Thank you so much. You guys are awesome!!
Is the trillium flower a nod to Ontario?
@@ScytheNoire 100% Good noticing!
Don't you need to wash out the tannins from acorns in order for them to be safe to eat?🤔
Sorry I couldn’t be there 😢

@@PlaytheGameHQ Faster and more straightforward sounds great! While we found parts of Creature Comforts fun, it was too fiddly and long.
Great quality video! Great game! ❤

Yes, you can use that map before you end your turn
Maps can be used at the beginning or the end of the turn you use your friend for =)

Aesthetically speaking, CC's board is much more beautiful. This board seems very bland. Cards look beautiful though.
