Thank you for your service sir. My grandson got his assignment today. He's going to go learn to fly helicopters. 10 year commitment now vs 4 yr. He commissions in May. He's senior at college in emergency management, ROTC and National Guard. He's worked hard for this for sure. Thank you for keeping the crews safe and equipment in proper order.

It looks like the stabilizer is also the elevator - aka stabilator. How is that controlled? With the stick? Or on a switch like flaps on a plane? Or something else? Thanks!

I had the honor of working on these here in Stratford CT. I would love to see this thing come back home for a visit. Since the military is phasing out these birds, maybe the civilian sector is an option.

Dave, I'm a Marine Corps veteran that's partially disabled and now a Police Officer in Georgia. You're an inspiration and a hero to me. I'm a die hard aviation fan, especially rotary wing. I could never afford that type of license so I'll live vicariously through you. Thanks for what you do sir.

Everytime I've been in a Blackhawk, it was in a stressful or combat scenario. When you said you'd love to give veterans leisure rides to experience a Blackhawk in a calm environment I teared up. It made me realize that I've never been on a relaxing Blackhawk ride... That's a really respectable idea. I might never get the chance... but it's awesome to know people still think of us that way. So much respect for what you accomplish and how you motivate people to crush their goals.

Its nice to see you giving back to Veterans. I'm a 24 year retired vet and after flying in black hawks during multiple combat missions in Iraq in 2005, I really don't think I would want to get back in one. Have fun with it....very Awesome machine. Thank you.. to all those Army pilots and gunners I flew with back then that got me back to the FOB safe on a daily. Amazing times, but glad the ride is over. GOD BLESS our Military!

I worked on H-60s for the last 11 years for the Navy. From SH-60F, HH-60H and CH-60R and S. What a cool project and mission you have. Love the spirit you have.

As a former US Navy Aircrewman in the Navy's version of your BlackHawk, the SeaHawk, close to 2000 hours of flight time, I congratulate you on such an incredible, awesome, achievement. Your BlackHawk looks awesome. Word of caution, do not ignore that intermediate gear box, the chip indicator. Thank you for sharing. Be safe. Be well. G
@@fluke196c as a crewman, I was responsible for pre-flights (like the pilots), daily's and turn around inspections. The chip indicator at the intermediate gear box is magnetic, attracting metal shavings as the gearing started to deteriorate. Shavings can be seen before the sensor would be activated. I only bring this up because it was a real issue with the helicopter in my day (early 90's). It was a known issue with the helicopter and responsible for loss of life.
As a former Army H60 pilot, and HeavyD fan, I think this is awesome, I have about 3000 hours in this bird and truly miss flying. Thank You for the videos!

What a great thing to do for Vets. I bet there will be many a teary eye from the bunch on those flights but will do a lot of healing needing to be done.
As an Army Blackhawk mech and crew chief, this is freaking amazing and i've never seen a Blackhawk so clean! As you learn to fly this aircraft, following good CRM is crucial to insuring you stay safe. Transitioning from single pilot to a dual pilot helicopter is a big jump so take it slow and learn the systems. Proper checklists are a must and you have to learn to share the cockpit and split responsibilities. Stay humble and continue to learn. I can't wait to see what you do with this in the future!

Bro. Nothing but respect for doing veteran flights. I spent 6.5 years working on UH-60's on an Avionics field. I spent a lot of flight hours in Afghanistan in that helicopter. I'm sure whatever veterans you get involved will be more than happy to have a fun flight that is fun instead of being in hostile territory. So many of my flights were so memorable that I miss flying in helicopters every day. Good luck and thank you for doing what you do!

Retired Navy here. My last flight in a Blackhawk was a Medevac from the flight deck of the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN to Kuwait more than 20 years ago. Although I was focused on the patient, that flight was something I will never forget. You and your crew have huge hearts and I look forward to watching how you provide flights for former combat vets in the future. Keep having fun and keeping helping others! Blackhawk aircrewman/helicopter hoist rescue specialist here. I have to say you took on one hell of project. I know how expensive these birds are to operate and maintain and kuddo's to you Heavy D. You are definitely genuine in your love of aviation and really seemed to take the highest appreciation of safety and knowledge of your aircraft. Enjoy the fruits of your labor brother! Hi Diesel Dave. What a beast! As a Veteran of the Royal Australian Army, I flew in Black Hawks in the early 1990's. I have some great memories in them & think it's a great idea what you & your buddies are doing to give back to people have served your country. It would be great to go for a relaxing flight in one again without having to worry about carrying all your combat gear & disembarking without being shot at. We'll done guys. 👌🤙

As a nine year ARMY veteran I appreciate your appreciation! People forget what service members go through all too often! As much as we gave, to just get "tossed to the curb"! So many of us are so close to loosing everything we owe with as bad as the economy is and there seems to be VERY little helper out there. This is SOOOO amazing brother! As a former helo mechanic with the USAF's 1st S.O.W., the only suggestions I'd make, to enhance the chopper's utility, would be:
- install the utility pylons for carrying external fuel tanks (for extra range/bringing fuel to remote locations for recoveries), and storage pods for additional equipment.
- since you occasionally do rescues, the rescue hoist
- FLIR/TI camera, to aid in rescues/recoveries
-TF/TA radar to assist with night flights/mountain navigation
Heavy D, as a retired Sikorsky employee, worked there almost 40 years, I really enjoyed this episode! These choppers are built extremely well made and I hope you have many hours of enjoyment with this fine aircraft! Many veteran hands have helped build these aircraft. The fact that you are taking Veterans for leisurely rides is very admirable! Thank you, my friend. Just subscribed to your channel.

As a current 15T (Blackhawk crewchief) for those that do not know, This is a pretty large feat to accomplish, it looks great. Thanks for saving one from possibly getting scrapped I love seeing the 60 converted to civilian use, Its also awesome you are doing leisure flights I cant tell you how many people have asked me in my career for a ride and I have to say no. Good on you and Congrats on getting it done!
Super awesome that you finally got your bird. My son is a rescue swimmer for the Navy and has spent quite a bit of time in an MH60 Sierra. You have done a great job with this project and truly love the jump seats that actually have padded seating now. Fly safe and what you will be doing for our veterans is fantastic!!!

Your Blackhawk is incredible and I know you’ll do great things with it! But what I really want is to tell you how touched I was that you thanked the FAA. My father-in-law was first a Marine night fighter pilot in Korea, then he trained Marine pilots and, finally, he was a Flight Safety Specialist for the fledgling CAA and then the FAA. He did care-intensely-about everyone from private pilots to commercial jet pilots and their passengers. The only rating he didn’t have was helicopters-but that’s another story. His last assignment was to teach pilots in Alaska how to survive survivable crashes. I’ve never known a more honorable man. He died almost 20 years ago and I still miss him terribly. When you thanked the FAA and talked about how they really care, I felt like you thanked him too. ❤️

It's great to see you living a full life. The Blackhawk looks amazing. My father now 95 flew helicopter's in the Army, he was part of the Robin Hoods in Vietnam and retired as Deputy Post Commander of Presidio of Monterey, he reminisces to me about flying in the old days and how much he misses it. We live in Washington State and our fence backs Fort Lewis so we see multiple different types of helicopters flying over our house everyday. If you're ever in this area I know my father would love to have a flight in the Blackhawk, he is a proud Veteran of WWll, Korean, Vietnam and still going strong. Thank you for your videos I really enjoy them.

It’s a lot easier to get one of those than it is a Blackhawk to be honest, this is a bit more impressive than the average rich person buying a fighter jet toy, to own and fly a blackhawk as a civilian you need a burning passion for aviation.

thank you for this sir. i have and still work on blackhawk helicopters here at sikorsky for the past 16 years and this makes my heart smile every time i see this. im a marine veteran and you wanting to take veterans for flights is amazing. thank you again for you and everyone else at diesel brothers and who ever else made this happen.

I could not stop smiling from the beginning of the video to you seeing her for the first time. She is a stunning beauty. The upholstery is to die for. I know you will have so much fun with this new and awesome toy. I know the feeling of fulfilling a lifelong dream when you come from very little. Mine was an in ground pool. 33 years now and loved every minute of it.I know you will Fly her with joy in your heart.

I was at Ft Campbell,Ky when the Army changed over to the Blackhawk from the Huey. My roommate was a Crewchief on the UH-60, I was in Phase Maintenance on the AH-1S Cobra.
You can’t imagine the hours we put in, keeping these things flying the 1st year they came out. Everyone, regardless of what you worked on, helped work on these, pushing them in & out of the hangar (we had a tug, it just never worked when we needed it. So everyone pushed them in & out.) They were new, and we were the Unit that got them. 2/17 Cav, 101st Airborne. Let’s say we worked all the kinks out of them, found out the bad things, and pressed on. My buddy Chris was a 100% awesome A&P and led the maintenance til the day he left the Army. What an awesome mechanic. If there was a question, the Warrant Officers asked him the deal. He was so good at what he done, he stayed at Ft Campbell the entire length of his enlistment. They wasn’t letting him out of their sight.
Great ship. As a former Army Crewchief with a lot of flight hours, I only ask that you please stay away from the wires! Peace ✌️
When I was younger I had a killer job. I worked at what used to be Orange county airport then later renamed John Wayne airport at Tallmance Aviation museum. My main duties were to clean all the aircraft one at a time and then wheel them back into the huge main hanger, and drive the fuel truck. I fueled most of the planes that were tethered and hangered at the airport including the old Bell 47 helicopters used by the highway patrol, county sheriff's and the city police. I also was privileged to get a ride with Frank Tallman in his P-51 mustang! One of the highlights of my younger days
I love how you purchased, transported and refurbished an acctual Blackhawk helicopter but really had to "bite the bullet" on those headsets. 😂

This was very emotional for me because I felt the love,care and just the beauty of this beast . I felt the journey this Blackhawk been through ,my best friend who died 3 months ago he is a purple heart veteran and he would have love to see this . And it's amazing that one of your goal is to take veterans out it will mean a lot to them . As a veteran caretaker and grew up in military family thank you . I cried the whole time from when you got this to when you finally got to fly it around to the kids getting to get on it . God bless.
I am not a veteran, but I have a woman that I know, who was a Blackhawk Pilot in actual combat. I will try to get her in touch with you. On another matter, you concern for almost anyone who has found them in a bad spot is absolutely amazing. The care an expertise that you displayed when you rescued the plane and the pilot’s body from the Montana mountain side literally brought me to tears. My most fervent wish is that there were more people in the world like you. You are a true compassionate human being. I hope you get a chance to realize all your dreams of times in your amazing new “Mixmaster”!

Just wanted to say thank you for giving that old uh60-A a new chance at life. I'm a US army veteran (now government contractor who works on Hawks for the army) who was a blackhawk crewchief/door gunner. I've followed your hawk videos from the beginning, and wanted to say you did a great job of documenting the journey. I wish you the best buddy....always remember "2 to fly, systems, avionics, we're locked... clear up" and I'm sure you've heard "Go for a Beer". Fly safe my friend!

I flew thousands of hours in the real "black helicopters" in my Army career. MH-60L/DAP with the 160th. I was the Standardization Instructor Pilot for 1 of the 2 Blackhawk companies in 1st Battalion, 160th SOAR. I will be looking to ride with you guys in the future as I continue to battle stage 4 cancer. I won't wait till end stage, which I pray is years away. Wouldn't want to soil such a fantastic interior.
