Thanks for the video - very enlightening. It is 4 years old, though. Is the "motor" and lift string design the same in both brands today? What kind of design does Hunter Douglas use?
Great job at comparing the most important parts of two manufacturers' cellular shades! This type of information is invaluable if you're looking to purchase new shades!
Dear Scott, have the Graber or Kirsch IMPROVED since this video in 2016? To save money, I was thinking Graber for living room. Kirsch for the other rooms. Hope to hear from you soon.
Hey Scott great video! Looking at blinds for our house now in 2" faux wood. Based on experience, would you still recommend graber as the most durable despite hunter douglas etc having better warranty? Thanks!
I have installed all the popular brands, Levelor, Bali, Graber and Hunter Douglas. I’m not a fan of Hunter Douglas I think there over rated and the warranty is just ok. Graber owns Bali, Bali is sold in big box stores and functions the same as Graber but Graber materials are a step up in quality. Bali/Graber are real good about free replacement for the first year without shipping your broken blind back Levelor quality is just ok. My biggest advice is to stay away from cordless faux wood blinds! Any of them! 90% of the time most people keep the blinds down and tilt the slats open/closed until you want to clean the windows and the blinds no longer will go up! The springs from leaving the blind down all the time makes them weak!!! Good luck...
Scott you need to update your video.... The company was bought out and no longer works the way you describe it, everything has changed...I'm sure you'll find it to be one of the best quality products on the market.
Susan if I were to update my video there would only be 3 changes. 1) it is now a Levolor product. 2) the end caps are thinner to allow more room for brackets on cordless shades. 3) the brackets themselves have been slightly modified. Years ago they used more of a ribbon instead of the 1.4 mm lift string they use now so that is a plus but the cordless “motors” are the same and need a serious update so each lift cord has it’s own wind motor instead of the motor that is shared between two lift cords. Levolor’s big brother Hunter Douglas, Graber and Bali all use individual motors. Levolor is also the only shade on the market you have to manually straighten to keep even if left part of the way down. Levolor is also not an eco friendly company since they pack only one shade per box and filled with packing material. Most of the other shade companies pack multiple shades per box with a single layer of bubble wrap and a 1” thick styrofoam block on each end saving trees and the landfills. In all fairness you do get what you pay for and all the above mentioned are more money.
Very helpful detailed. Thank you!
