05:07 "First you sell it, then you make it. That's marketing!"
Yup. That's the business model of Cannon films, and it worked well for them for many years. First you make the poster with a cool title and Chuck Norris' face on it. Then you take it to the market and find investors. If it sells, you rush a movie out as soon as possible. Oh, and get someone on the set to figure ot a story that fits.
Menahem Golan was describing himself. Haha.

That Phantom mention :) Love that mash-up of Picture of Dorian Gray, Phantom of the Opera, and Faust all balled into a giant middle finger to the music industry (Doo-wop, Beach Boys, Kiss, T-Rex, etc). And Paul Williams, with his underlying tragedy in most lyrics, writing for these songs was perfect on multiple levels. In 1994, I went to the local Blockbuster and rented it. The cashier chuckled and told me I was the first person to rent that movie from that store. Good times.

I first saw this on the American "The Movie Channel" in .. 1981 or 82. It was a satellite broadcast intended for a community in the Rocky Mountains -- my parent's house was up high looking out at the mountains --- by happenstance our cable went out -- I had the steel garage door open and was connecting an old antenna -- and I picked up the signal -- so I had to have the garage door open to receive it (figured it deflected the signal to the antenna). We got all these cool movies that -- at the time -- were not available on TV (bad language, no commercials on TV was crazy cool at the time -- all my high school buddies, no bars we would watch this channel with our girl friends).

I genuinely LOVE the soundtrack to this movie. Plus, it tickles me growing up in the 80s
and 90s in a super Christian family always pushing the idea that the culture was getting ever more more sinful and debauched, that the dirtiest song I've ever heard came from a disco era musical from 1979, four years before I was born.

This video got me curious about the strangest things; movie ratings. I ended up learning why porn is all about adding X's to their videos, and that PG-13 wasn't on the books until 1984. So basically every movie that wasn't violent enough to be rated R, got a PG rating by default: Jaws, for example.

It's not a matter of being sensitive - there was a time when parents would actually guide their children, so being told that parental guidance was needed meant something. These days, parents let their kids do whatever they want, forcing outside groups to do the parenting for them.
