- PROGAMER
A collaborative project by Valerie Schmidt and Patrick Wagner.
We've been taking portrait photographs of professional Starcraft 2 players at Assembly Winter 2012 in Helsinki and Dreamhack Eizo Open: Stockholm, to turn them into photogravures.
Valerie has been photographing, I'm taking care of the photogravure side of things.
This video shows a part of the production process - omitted is basically the first day, sensitizing the gelatine, exposing the image on it, laying it down on the copper plate, developing the image. What is shown, however, is drying the gelatine on the copper in a plate whirler, etching a photogravure (Taeja) in Ferric-III-Chloride baths (from 44°Baumé down to 38°Bé for the highlights) and pulling a proof print from another plate (Hero).
Will post another update once we're done with printing the final edition.
For more info about the project feel free to contact us via the email addres shown at the end of the video.

I don't get why that is... He is doing his best to describe his profession to those who don't know whats going on. Thought it was an awesome video and I feel i got some insight on the process as i am someone with no real understanding of the process
HERO!!!!
Awesome! I don't know - about bare hands in those chemicals. Tendinitis must be a job hazard, lol.

Very cool, especially because it's LiquidHerO's picture:p
You should have mentioned that you were making a Chine-collé print. People will be confused.

Sir,
Nice Video.
I'm from India.
I like contemporary printing methods.
Can you help me giving a estimate of putting a Complete Setup of Photogravure printing.
My maximum size of printing would be 13" x 19" .
Thank you :)
My apologies, I don't know any Swedish people (but they're awesome as FUCK!)
its Swedish :)
You mean the French accent?
He talks in a way that makes me think he's like, intentionally trying to sound smart or like Jean-Luc Picard or something.
Did his photoshop break?
please be careful of how close you are sticking your face towards to solutions, the plates are placed in too precarious of a position.
This seems so impractical for a print.
