11:41 DeNA bought the BayStars from Tokyo Broadcasting System, not Maruha. Maruha sold the team to TBS in January 2002 while requiring them not to change the name, which is why it goes unnoticed.

Thanks for the info. After the sale to DeNA, TBS still airs Baystars games till the present.

I played in Yokohama in 2002 and we were terrible. The pitching was hurting and so were the Gaigin brought in. I was the only one to stay in the big club all year, Also first Latino player to hit for the cycle. The Fans and the city are out of this world. Great fans and great city. Also the office was great. Great memories. Saito, Takahuru Ishi, Suzuki and Saeki were a big part of that team. Unfortunately Saeki (calve) and Susuki (back) were down all year with injuries. Great memories.

Osamu Mihara is the person most respected by Akira Ohgi, who develop Ichiro, and Hideki Kuyriyama , who develop Shohei Ohtani.
Foreigners may not know him, but he's an important figure in Japanese baseball.
If you can read Japanese, I recommend reading the book (English title Magician Osamu Mihara and Nishitetsu Lions).
You will understand not only Osamu Mihara also the history of baseball in Japan.

MY CENTRAL LEAGUE TEAM!! Also their stadium was the host of the 2021 Olympics baseball events where Tyler Austin, a current Baystar, won silver for Team USA. Both where the reasons I became hooked to the NPB every since. Also, DB Starman is my primary NPB mascot.

Shame that the name Whales got such an unfortunate association, because it is a great name for a baseball team especially for one based out of Yokohama. Regardless, the BayStars truly are the odd team of the bunch in Central League that almost seems like it doesn't fit due to how young they are as a team in comparison with the rest of the historical titans in their league like the Tigers and Giants. I guess it means they have more time to build their own dynasty similar to the Hawks, if you want to look at it glass half full. Another cool video as always Gaijin. Can't wait to watch Invincible Seibu next. :)

I hope Gaijin Baseball will cover the infamous Kawasaki Stadium (not to be confused with Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium) as it's still around surprisingly enough... as an American football stadium.

@@GaijinBaseball he was Billy's go-to guy to take over whenever he got thrown out of games. Billy would then go to a local bar, ask to borrow the phone, call the dugout and manage with Clete over a beer watching the game on tv! (Billy's actual accounts of his time in Oakland.)

They used the Phillies P under that name, they became the Buffaloes in 1959

I must say it's a bit ironic that you name your team Whales because your company's main business is killing whales. It's like calling a bunch of fishermen "the team fish".. Not saying anything about whaling being now banned, which is neither here nor there..
