    I got into sheep this past year. I have a dorper ewe lamb and a katahdin ewe lamb. I am addicted now and have been binge watching your videos since I found the channel. Really love tess and wish I had a mentor like her here in mississippi.

    God love her! That is as bad as any flood. Thank you, both of you for sharing when things aren't going well also. It's really easy to get excited about all of our homesteading animals when things are wonderful, BUT things can and do go wrong. It's difficult to know what exactly to do. We just love Tess, she is a true blessing not only for you but for all of us now too because of the videos. Thank you.

    So important to see the bad along with the good, great idea. Mud, man that stuff can kill your mood. There are days when a parking lot would seem like a paradise.

    Just noticed that Tess holds a doctorate degree. Just curious if it is in veterinary medicine or something else. She is so good at sharing her knowledge.

    I never SAW ewes and lambs so calm and unfearful around them that owns 'em!! They trust you completely!

    We've had a rough spring too, but not as bad. Lots of mud here and our ducks make a mess out of the pasture and compact it. After it dries out we have to decompact and replant it. They can be like feathered pigs in mud.

    This is excellent info. Tess is GREAT! That muddy situation seems like it would foster hoof rot. If you have a chance can you ask Tess about it? Maybe hoof rot only happens in the heat Im not sure, but it is something we deal with.

    Tips on helping a 4 week old lamb with bloat? Bummer lamb on formula, thinking of putting him on Kefir

      yeah, probiotics are good for restoring the bacteria balance. You can also mix finely-ground ginger (1/2 tsp) with water and drench with that. Some folks use antibiotics too.

    Will sheep be happy if they're just three? Or do they need to be more?

  • @WhimsicalWonderFarm
    @WhimsicalWonderFarm Před 7 lety

    That's a lot of sheep! They are so cute.
    I have a question. About a month ago we banned a little ram lamb and checked him yesterday and it's still there! The band is still there too. But the testicles have not fallen off. What to do? lol
    this is our first time ever having sheep.

    • @TheGrassfedHomestead
      @TheGrassfedHomestead  Před 7 lety

      Tess does not band and I've only banded once in a workshop. I know the difficulty can be sometimes getting both testicles below the band (the shrink up inside sometimes). Did you get the testicles below the band?

    • @WhimsicalWonderFarm
      @WhimsicalWonderFarm Před 7 lety

      yes we got both below band. Do you eat them without banding?

    • @TheGrassfedHomestead
      @TheGrassfedHomestead  Před 7 lety
