Thank you so much for creating this tutorial for us. I learned so many new tricks. The clip for the header, brilliant. Also, I've never thought of covering a old book with canvas, and that gave me so many new ideas. I've never seen this binding before, and I'm really excited to give this a go. Thank you again!
It depends on what he will plan to use the journal for. If you’re going to use it as an art journal and you will be adding lots of layers, then making a thinner signature will allow more place for expansion. Typically I will use between six and eight pages (folded) for each signature which would make for between 12 and 16 pages in each signature. the thicker The journal will be at the end, the more space you wanna leave between signatures. If you were just using it as a writing journal, and won’t be adding much to it, then you can use any number of pages for each signature but you’ll want to put the signature closer together since you don’t need to leave much room for expansion. Otherwise, the binding is very flexible and you can really space it however, it looks good to you. I usually use grid paper cut to the width of the spine to map it out ahead of time, then fold my papers and try them out inside the cover to make sure they are not too thick. Hope that answers your question!
