  • Based on the comments from last character tech video, I was making a compilation of unparryable lows in Tekken 8 but ended up here instead lol

      that would be interesting to see a new parry slip be on stomach instead of on back, or at least punch based low parries would not knock the target down but somehow turn into a different type of outcome entirely like some kind of throw or something that does very little damage or something.

      Older tekkens had a punch Parry animation, I think Tekken 5, it gives different frames if it's a punch or ankick

      Fix which attacks overall can be parried by those who have parry as a part of their "identity". If we gonna buff a high tier Xiaoyu to invincibility on something, I think it's fair.

      Getting struck by a low while being juggled in the air doesn't make sense to me. Ganryu's low kick followup from 7 is an example. So what doesn't make sense about this?

      ​@@dawsondebell1603Two separate things with different logic. Tekken 8 has its own separate logic compared to the other games. A low connection while juggling makes sense because the move still hit you, why should you be invincible just because of that? (imo I think that's a fault of other fighting games like VF where they become invincible just because the counter said so). This parry logic doesn't make sense because there is no consistency or theme/logic to it and it's all over the place (like most of t8)

      He is joking and reciting a Michael Murray quote.
      Back in T7 there was an update where Kazuya and Devil Jin got buffed tracking on their hellsweeps. So you had to do a well timed sidewalk left to avoid it.
      People complained about it on Twitter how stepping wasn't as effective with dealing with Kaz and DVJ's 50/50s and they should take away the buffed tracking from the hellsweep.
      But Michael Murray's answer for that was "why sidestep, you can just low block and punish them if you know they are gonna hellsweep".
      However the thing is we don't know if the hellsweep is coming. Ducking exposes you to their strong safe mids like Kaz ff3 f4 db2 and DVJ uf4. We sidestep because it would beat avoid both the hellsweep and their strong safe aforementioned mids. Hence step was a strong defensive option since you didn't have to guess the mix up.

    Asuka and juns can can has been a problem for some time now and i rarely see people talk about it, fought a few that spam that move even Knee got launched constantly vs a jun player abusing it, the only option is to low block and launch punish it which isnt always easy for such a fast low ch launcher

      @@hrleinadit’s not NC. If you get hit by any first attack, you have to hold back or down back to block any other follow up attacks. Neutral guard only applies to the first hit of a high or mid attack.
      Because Asuka and Jun’s move is a relatively quick 2 hit low high move, you almost always get hit by the first low if you’re not already preemptively blocking low.
      You can train yourself to recognise the animation, though, and duck the 2nd hit, even if the first connects as a normal hit.

      You only get launched if both kicks land and you can easily side walk left. Low parry would be just about the worst possible option if it were possible.

    It’s weird the last two can’t be parried. I feel if it hits low it should be able to be low parried, airborne or not. Airborne should just give it low crush.

    When I go for Steve's uf+3 stomp and he gets low parried, it always looks like he slipped on a banana peel. IMO this Tekken is still fun but all over the place.

      What would be insane is if you low parry a launch punishable low-high string.
      You can either crouch block both kicks and get a full combo, or you can side walk left and get a full combo. If you low parry, you would do significantly less damage because a) your first hit after is always scaled to 70%, and b) the low party itself counts as a tornado move, so you're only able to half a combo and again, the damage is already scaled down.
      The general "rule" is you should never low parry something that is launch punishable, because you can just launch punish it.
      Anyone who has a tough time dealing with can can is probably never using sidestep and never considered blocking and punishing.

Also, no, there's no "rule" about never low parrying something that is launch punishable. You sound like Murray. "Why sidestep when you can block and punish?" Well, because there are many instances when parrying is generally the best and safest option. You need to hard duck to block something, you only need a quick df input to low parry. That's one example. Also, no, you can't duck can cans on reaction, that's simply not going to happen. You can only duck that and launch if the enemy is being extremely predictable with it, which is why low parrying generally used to be a good choice to deal with that launcher. Lastly, the sidestepping argument is dumb because, by that logic, no move should be parriable then. "Why parry if you can sidestep and punish?" Murray 2.0.

      Then it wouldn't be Tekken. The entire premise of the game's design philosophy is there are exceptions to the basic "rules" and that's a huge factor in its longevity as a franchise. This is baked into the experience.
      It's a significant reason why many people, myself included, love the game. The sense of never ending improvement and knowledge acquisition is the main draw for me. I live for this stuff. If Tekken mechanics and situations were universal and not full of exceptions, it simply wouldn't be Tekken. If you don't enjoy that, that's perfectly fine, but like, this is why the rest of us are even playing the game. There are simpler games, just play those if you can't stand the heat.

Having your combos randomly drop against Kuma because his legs and head's hitbox doesn't make sense isn't quirky and appealing. It's infuriating. It doesn't make me giddy with excitement when Xiaoyu becomes invincible during AoP mixups

    Keep in mind that there are 2 different types of airborn states. The white text airborn and the blue text airborn. The white text version makes you able to float combo. The blue text version also makes the attacker lowcrush.

      The difference doesn't look like it matters. For example, Kings low drop kick is blue text airborne and still gets low parried.

    Dude, the reason it doesn't make sense is because they don't think things over. Tekken has a rich history with weird/dumb balancing. The Dev team seems to consistently judge things from a beginner/intermediate level of play.

      The whole point is you should be able to low parry all lows which are not weapons, shoulders, asses, knees etc, but no they want to add randomness and knowledge checks to the game.

    I think it may have to do with the fact that cancan leaves Jun and Asuka airborne AFTER the hit, while the other characters are airborne BEFORE the hit

    So, okay, Jun and Asuka cancans aren't parriable being Airborne status attacks.
    Alisa has a d3 which is unparriable being Airborne, but somehow also has Boot 3 and Dual Boot 3 which are parriable being the same status, just as Lee/Shaheen slide, King db4, Law u3+4
    Xiaoyu, Raven, Nina, Hwo and Steve examples are parriable being Standing/Crouching status after being Airborne so it could be explained that way, but...
    Kuma and Yoshi ones are unparriable during Standing/Crouching status after being Airborne
    In conclusion I can say it's because Leroy needs nerfs

    The indicator for airborne is broken. What shows as airborne is not always airborne and what shows as standing isn't always standing.

    Some of these go into crouching before the attack lands, which makes sense for low party to work. But technically, like Jun/Asuka, moves like Lee slide and King low shouldn’t be able to be low parried. Introduction to special low anyone???

    I knew I wasn't going crazy...I used to parry any and everything in t7 with law. I loved parrying hopkicks and other moves that people are usually really confident in cuz it'd catch them by surprise. Hope this is removed

    1:39 DUDE! Properly is when you can parry any low. Imagine you couldn't parry Nina's can opener or King's db4. These attacks become increasingly obnoxious. I think they should just fix cancans and those other exeptions back to being parryable. It's ridiculous that you get launched for attampting to parry that.

    Out of all things parrying airborne attacks should be the easiest to throw enemy off balance like that. It also makes things very confusing gameplay wise

    0:51 Here alisa has "floatable" status but not "airborne". There are actually 2 unrelated statuses: floatable and low-crushing. Here at 0:51 Alisa is maybe floatable but she's not low crushing.
    You can hit Alisa and in other examples with lows. On the other hand, in the Asuka example you can't hit her with a low when she does her can cans: she's low crushing.

    Other mechanics i dont understand as well. Weapons like yoshimitsu and victor they come out as punches but cant reverse them but just parry. You can parry a rage art but cant reverse it. Some of the regular punches cant be reverse like they could in tekken 7. Alot of questions there smh

    I feel like most of the lows you were low parrying were already lows you could low parry before in previous tekken’s which is why it is like that. I’m not sure if you were able to low parry Asuka can cans in Tekken 7 or before could just be a slight change they made with her

    this is weird ngl. but i feel like the exceptions add more to the strengths of specific characters, in this game where everything is a bit more universal, and everyone has almost everything available to them. i would argue it makes sense that not everyone behaves the same way.
    though this argument makes the frustrations against matchups like xiaoyu in general more clear

      Yeeeeeah, but often the low that comes out of it is so slow that you can still parry it. Hwoarangs often start a string after heat engager with a quick little toe-teap. My brain says "AHAH, I HAVE READ HIM LIKE A BOOK! TIME TO PUNISH" but then... nope lol. @@IAMOP

      Heat engagers are like +17 on hit. So any low that is 17 frames or faster can't be low parried if done immediately after.

    these inconsistencies are so fucking annoying....just WHAT is wrong is keeping the easy to understand, universal system of "can't low parry elbows, knees, shoulders, or tackles" ???? now it's like "you can parry this, just not this, not this attack, but you can still parry this one, and that one" even though they look really similar. SMH, why are they trying to re-invent the wheel??? Can Can's not being able to be low parried is so fucking stupid for example
    AIRBONE OR NOT AIRBORNE, I say ALL LOWS should be able to be low parried unless Knee, Weapons, Shoulder, Headbutt, Bodyslide or Projectiles, this is not about making things more complex or difficult, it's just more for the sake of consistency, which every game should have and follow to a degree, otherwise it's just nothing but chaos and confusion

    To be fair a lot of changes have been made. Hitbox changes, sidestep effectiveness, juggle routes etc I don't think it's surprising for some previously unparryable lows to be parryable
    might be developer oversight or intended undocumented change, I don't know. It's highly unlikely someone even bothers to parry these moves anyway rather just blocking it. Like the Mishima hellsweep. Why would you?

      Previously all the airborne lows shown were parryable, They are supposed to unparryable now in Tekken 8 but this is working only for few characters like asuka , jun and alisa

    One of the issues I had was my game plan with King against some characters like Nina, I was parrying their strings, but not anymore, since he is a big cat I have to find new counters to these strings now

    This is easy to explain. It's a carry over from DOA as the combat designer of that game is on this one. In doa basically ALL lows could be reversed/parried. So they implemented that inti this game and in turn nerfed how good a parry is. That's my assumption at least

      You're understanding it in reverse, they added a new rule for airborne lows > not parryable
      But as of right now some work with that rule and some don't as shown in the video and we don't know the reason

    This is pc version of course ! That s what makes PC the coolest gaming machine ! Mods and much more you can even mess with the game itself if you are into pc and stuff ! ! Now you know why gamers are switching from consoles to pc ! A beast gaming pc is like The Pro version of the PS5 Pro ! One thing can beast pc do and consoles not is that you can activate all enhancing graphics settings and still play at high FPS ! PC is the best end of discussion ! NB have pc for 30 years now !
