- Le Niger est confronté à une crise politique après un coup d'État militaire qui a renversé le président Mohamed Bazoum.
Le gouvernement militaire a fermé l'espace aérien du pays en réponse à la menace d'une intervention étrangère. La CEDEAO avait fixé un délai pour réinstaller le président déchu, mais celui-ci est passé sans qu'une résolution ne soit trouvée. Les militaires nigériens bénéficient d'un soutien populaire et sont appuyés par les gouvernements du Mali et du Burkina Faso.
Des allégations ont également été faites selon lesquelles la junte aurait sollicité l'aide de la société militaire privée russe
Wagner. Le président déchu a appelé à une intervention occidentale pour reprendre le pouvoir et éviter une influence russe croissante dans la région. La situation reste tendue et l'évolution de la crise politique au Niger est suivie de près.
