Leona Lewis is truly a World Class vocalist!
She is indeed, however (and I have to say this with a background of classical education) she lacks the "passion" and is a little... boring. And I have a handsigned album of hers, so yes, I like her voice. But Musical isn't her stage to shine on.

+Vi Tob how can you bring up your "background of classical education" when talking about PASSION... irrelevant!
In musical education you also learn how to use your whole body, a way to emphasize with your vocals in combination with your movements; a balance of strong/soft, forte/piano; a pathos. >In this video< she's just singing the song like it's a common pop ballad.
Of course, her technique is superb, but when you call this excpert a passionate performance..., well guess everyone is free to has his/her own oppinion. Leona Lewis is an awesome singer, but she is definitly not an actor. And you can't just be a singer in the musical business. You gotta be both.
Well, she's out of her contract already again after 3 months, so guess I am not the only one who lacks "Passion" here. I go with the critics at this point.
Ugh, can I just remind everyone that Leona took the role at the last minute after Nicole dropped out to return to X-Factor in the UK. I think Leona did a great job.

I saw the show several days ago. Seeing this portion on the computer doesn't do it justice. You should see it live before passing negative remarks. Leona was awesome! It was well worth the drive from New Orleans to NYC!

I'm with you, I saw it live as well and it's like the sound-mixing was completely off on this clip. In person, in-theater was a whole different and great experience.

lmao! Yes play the character of an old cat yet look young and beautiful... This musical and her character Grizabella is an old cat who is dying looking on memories of her youth. Leona Lewis does nothing to bring raw emotion of the ache and loneliness that comes with age.. She would be better cast in Phantom of the Opera.. As I watched other performances I was brought to tears. Here I was like "yeah, beautiful voice, pretty face.." but what about what the musical calls for. She does not look like an old cat aching for the old days. This song is horrible on her. All you guys care about is her looks and voice but do not care that this role is ruined by her image. guys and their boners
Agreed. I actually cringed at her pop-esque singing of those high notes. It's clear that she's not trained in classical singing, and her gorgeous face hurts the performance.

She's definitely good but Elaine Page set the bar for this one, in my opinion.. Feel the same way with Michael Crawford and Phantom.
Yeah, not a patch on Elaine Page! She has that really annoying pop singer bend forward all the time as well. You're supposed to open your body up when you sing, not contract it.

he voice is beyond amazing but what is the most amazing is that her voice has passion , it is strong but so humble and fragile.

I just watched Nicole Scherzinger and now Leona portray Grizabella and this is so awesome that they both took such passion in performing in one of the best musicals I have ever seen.
It's incredible that 'CATS' was brought back to Broadway again! I would love to see this live! My wife and I saw a CATS production at one of our local dinner theaters, and we loved it! We got to meet some of the performers of that production and the experience of standing next to some of the CATS was fantastic! Incidentally, my favorite CAT out of any production is always CASSANDRA! Mysterious, exotic and slinky as a cat!

PS. When Leona walked on stage, she was really like a spirit, demanding everyone's undivided attention, in my humble opinion.

I think my favorites from the revival were definitely Tyler and Ricky- the chemistry they had as Tugger and Misto, especially during Tugger's song, was so perfect!

Darth Felix If you see photos of Nicole Sherzinger performing, she has the same costume as Leona and a scar on her forehead implying that she can’t perform because of an injury, not age. I think I read a comment talking about how Nicole was supposed to perform here but she couldn’t so they called Leona last minute or something like that.

I liked her portrayal because she wasn't feel bad for me sobbing on stage sad she was more dignified similarly to Laurie Breechman who had such dignity to her Grizabella but still showed the tragedy of her past. So from what I see Leona Lewis took notes from one of the greats

I don't care what ANYBODY says, everybody has their favorites. But Leona nailed this performance. Vocally flawless, a true diva. The song showcases her vocal abilities and how easily she can go into higher octaves, but she belongs on a stage with herself as the main act. Not Broadway, where she is part of a cast.
You can like it as much as you can. But her technique is not ready for singing this. She lacks the lows, her belts are strined, her vibrato is to low and she lowers her larynx to fake a bigger tone. Her phrasing and pitch were the worst thing though.
