Very well shown….simply beautiful!
One of the best layouts I've ever seen on a cat this size. Thanx Toby, top presentation as I've come to expect of you
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks Stefan
Love your job, Toby! 👍🏽
that boom is comically high! All of the sail area exactly where you want - as high as possible, LOL.
Tourists love that fly bridge though.

Do you have a point besides your head?
Hope they budgeted for strong enough main structural athwartships bulkhead. Lagoon is infamous for their Failures on cats.
just was thinking of the bulk head failures that seem to plague this brand.. interior wise shes a beauty but more of a sailing apartment which should concern us all...
Great review as always
Gorgeous !
Hodges! You have the best job in the world!
Great peek. Thanks. These cats are not for exploring the North Atlantic in harrowing winds, which is fine cause I don't want to do that. People report they spend most of their time at a warm-water anchorage anyway. Might as well have a floating condo. I was on a Bali 5.4 this summer and the wife fell in love. The Lagoon is nice, but lacks the living space of the Bali. People buy these big cats for the lifestyle, not hard-water crossings (which they can do, albeit uncomfortably). Might as well get the most lifestyle for the buck. For the money I think we're still aiming at the Bali, though maybe the 4.8.
I don’t like all the cabins, I much rather have a way bigger master and say 2 guest cabins. Having all those guest cabins seems stupid. If I’m sailing with me and my lady I don’t want 3 other couples on a boat that’s only 55ft. Not saying it’s a small boat but it’s small when theirs 8 plus people on board. Why is it the older 50 plus foot cats seem to have really cool master bedrooms that take up the whole front part of the ship, I can’t remember the CZcams family that has one but it’s really cool.
@@marcuslarwa9098 Most of these cats are sold into the charter market, where 8-10 guests pay 20-30K per week. The destination-tourism trade exploded about ten years back. You can still order most new cats in 'owner's editions' the way you want (fewer/larger rooms). Catana/Bali even created a boat (the 4.8) that is a bit smaller than their flagship charter boat (the 5.4), specifically to cater to potential owners. But it's also configurable as a charter. I think most charter operators would go the full 5.4, though. I'm looking at the 4.8 as a possibility in a few years, as I get ready to retire.
@@FamilyManMoving yea as a business that makes sense but like I said if I were getting it to sail around the world with my lady I’d much rather have less rooms that were bigger.
@@marcuslarwa9098 They probably have an "owners" version
Need one for the Caribbean waters 😊 loving it
Love it. Lagoon needs to open some new factories . I'm sold.
gorgeous!
Flash Floating Apartment but it’s a bit IKEA looking inside, sharp corners everywhere, did I hear a creaking floor walking into the master? The high fly bridge and mast would put me off taking it anywhere serious with weather but nice for a fine weather charter.
Alot of creaking on a flat calm marina, very worrying to think they've already got 50 orders.
You can afford one don’t worry bud
I like for Lagoon to answer these question as followed directly. " Do the 55 lagoon have a structural problems that compromises the yacht performance, stability and safety." Are the problems with its previous model(s) are to be expected on this year 2022 Lagoon 55? If not... Will Lagoon guarantee its hull with a buy-back if there are problems with its structure e.g., streaky floor, bulkhead integrity and related issues? The yacht looks great . I just hope that it meets superior building standards.
There are hull problems with older models?
@@UTube-gs1yf I've seen bulkheads on older models built not to satisfying standards
It's a lovely apartment, if I wanted a proper yacht it would be an Explocat 52!
A great place to call home.
Getting a Bali 5.4 by Catana (6 cabins),very strong hull; and can be fast if you have the know-how. It loves the heavy seas, too.
Would be absolutely perfect for a week in the BVI’s, put the sails up for 30 minutes or so for show, then anchor up and it’s time for margaritas! Could you imagine having to tend to the mainsail in 3-4 meter waves in a seaway 20’ off the water? Great boats for what they are though.
It's a beautiful boat. Two issues that would end the possibility of buying, the bulkhead problems that will harm over a thousand people with defective boats, and the other issue that drives me nuts about all of the Lagoons I have been on is creaky floors. Why can't Lagoon get rid of their problems with creaky floors, they creak when you walk on them and they creak the whole time while underway. I could hear them the whole time you were walking around.
Could the bulkheads and the creaking possibly be related?...
@@angela1984a I believe so. A lot of the bulkheads weren't cut right or attached on Parley revival.
The bulkhead probs were only on one model according to Parlay Revival. Unless there has been something recent. Haven't seen anything about others since he toured factory and met with reps of company.
@@terrykeever3280 Sailing Zingaro where abord a Lagoon 500 while underway. That boat also creaked like crazy. You can search for that video on his channel. Just type in "Lagoon" in the search window... So if it is those two models - then why couldn't it be a problem on more models? I'm not familiar with the entire Lagoon range though...
Same builder, most likely same issues.
great review GREAT cat !!! BUt yup worried bout lack of safety rails on all relax areas
Dream one. thank you for sharing
Definitely for the charter business.
impressive !
The design just makes me wonder how practical the top deck and helm station is with bad weather. There is nowhere else to steer the boat from and I doubt you want to be out there in a rain storm or even in really large waves during a passage…
I agree, and I am wondering how that superstructure will hold up to large breaking waves, and what that does for the overall stability of the boat. Yikes.
I assume it’s enclosable, but I agree that heavy weather “manage your yacht in a heavy squall” type situations need more explanation. If you’re going to do long term blue watering, you’re going to get hit - hard - more than once.
That's why you should buy an Amel.
@@rouslant An Amel is a completely different vessel (monohull vs cat.) Cat people want a luxury ride. With that said, I would much rather be in Amel during heavy weather since the helm is well protected. I never liked an "open" helm design found in many cats. Amel will always (for the foreseeable future) be a better blue water sailor than any cat.
@@scotthampton8741 a "boat for good weather" is like training for a boxing fight preparing only for "little punches". The sea is the sea, anything that can't stand 80+ knots winds isn't a boat, just a floating coffin. And that boom 7 or 8 meters above sea level is just a call to capsize.
Has anyone checked the engineering specs for bulkhead strength on this model?
All Multi hull manufacturers are offering amazing amount of space, have been for a long time.
nice charter boat. would never take it off shore.

Tough job Toby!
That guest cabin and bed is bigger than most center cockpit monos. Damn.
Im gonna buy this boat one day
No mask needed on sailboat, I am sold.
Ever since I saw the first gunboat I am no longer attracted to these with flybridge at all
It’s all nice until the first bad weather
The cabins are spacious but I would definitely throw out the carpets
And another interesting fact for me is the small water tanks considering the number of people that can be on board
This will have a watermaker optioned by every owner for sure
@@MetalMike50 That's for sure.
Maybe the technical part of the yacht will be shown a little more next time
Because I see that there is an option for a fully electric powertrain instead of diesel engines this will be very popular in the years to come
@@MetalMike50 All very well but you still need to store the water for extended offshore passage making. Water makers stop working at the most inopportune times.

I was thinking about the design as a whole, not so much (although they are important) the performance
Because when you do the math, even this boat is not cheap, and then again you wonder if the investment was worth it in the end, so you still have to upgrade everything, in the end you need to gather experience and see what you actually need
Check those Bulkheads lol ;)
Well... If they haven't adressed that issue in production by now - then this company probably isn't going to last very long...
@@angela1984a Yeah I’m sure they have. It was only said in jest. 👍👍

@@angela1984a Have You been in France? Did You own a french car? Have You been tricked by french sellers?
CZcams is full of sailing-channels in troubles with broken this and malefunctioning that.
A french bowthruster is not to be used permanentely, because the cable melts, it´s not "designed" for permanent use. A dutch boat has hydraulic bow thruster. You can thrust as long as You want.
Hmm, Lagoon cats have had issues with bulkhead failures... have they addressed these issues in new designs/builds and what are they doing for owners who have cats with bad bulkheads?
They should be recalling and repairing all the broken bulkheads. Hopefully they'll fix the issue. CRAZY!!!
Have they upgraded the bulkhead construction?
That’s a great question lol
The real question is have they upgraded the engineering staff? The bulkheads are built exactly to the head engineer’s requirements.

As a sailor with my fair share of sailing in rough conditions I think this boat would be a death trap.
Looks dodgy...everywhere
@@inhale.exhale.2527 A day sailer at best
Please can you give your reason why you think that way.
@@ckbond41 first thing I noticed was the “stairs” up to the top flybridge. The narrator said the same thing I did “could use a handle rail along here”. Imagine yourself in a semi-rough sea, the boat rocking a bit and you trying to claw your way up those steps. The higher up you get the more pronounced the sea swell becomes. Its all well and good if you plan to just anchor it and motor in calm seas from island to island, but best laid plans of mice and sailors. Also my guess is more than one or two drunk guests will go sliding into the water along one of those walkways. Again any sea chop or motion will put many sailors and passengers in the water if there is not something to grab onto. The rule is “one hand for me and one hand for the boat” meaning you always want something you can grab onto while moving on deck. That boat as very few handholds and lots of place that come up to your knees. Any motion from the ocean will kick your legs out from under you as you hit your knees and put you in the water.
@@viking8889 Thanks for the info, really appreciate it.
There are so many cushions and breakables on the many decks, I have to wonder where it all goes if a squall is sighted, giving you short notice to get ready for it. Where does it all go and is there a drill for doing it?
MFI comes to mind when you hear all that creaking on a flat calm marina.
Good to see you Toby! You're going grey!
Has it been that long? Thanks for sharing this great vessel.
Ha! Trick of the light/bleached by the sun...

She's a beauty. Imagine having the terrible job of sailing her around the world to give Lagoon recommendations.
WARNING: Some idiot mentioning bulkheads in 5...4...3...
Definitely in need of railings around the bridge
Great review Toby, but you should have addressed the bulkhead issue. Are they now carbon reinforced? They should be.
The greatest depth of the sailboat design should be at the stem of the boat. The point midway between the mast and forestay should be the deepest point of the sailboat design. This increases the lateral resistance for the headsails and improves sail power and rudder control in high wind. Normal on keel design and normally refered to as seaworthy. When the bow of the boat has the most lateral resistance the boat is said to be seaworthy.
Since approx same price, it deends if you stay in the islands or sail the world. Lagoon has the superb cabins and flybridge....the explocat the speed, the robust structure and keeps its value !!!! I'll take a lagoon....for antartica, I will call Ponant 😂
Look at the hobby horsing even in light breeze, not enough boyancy in the bows!
How’s the bulkheads?
We get it ... A lot of space
Great flowting summer hub at the dock or anchor but extreme noisy. Cracks from everywhere. Cannot sail well like HH or Outremer either. This vessel is likely success in charterworld. As a floating vacation home layout is super.
There's a deeper, closer relationship to be had between sailor and sea if wind, instead of diesel, is the chosen mean of propulsion.
Well with sail area on this 55 so dismal you wont ever be sailing

How strong are the bulkheads? 1cm thick plywood?!?!?! €1.7m for a 500k build quality cat seems a bit rough!
Lagoon earned the reputation for some sketchy production but I don't think and hopefully it won't be carried over to this
Start production in Sept. 22? I don't know what their build time is, but with such a long order list, you're looking at at least two years to get your CAT.😮

This boat is a life-dream come true... too bad, dreams are dreams, not for common basic-money people ! :( ...still, it is, a solid dream of mine 😘
Looks amazing !! ⛵
Exactly.
All of you talking about the bulkheads should watch Parlay Revival's videos. These probs were on one model and have been addressed. Watch his videos for what the issue is on a large number of this one model.
Pretty nice cat...except for that fly bridge. Delete that completely, drop the main sail boom (and requisite mast height) by 10 feet, and cover the remaining roof with solar and you'd have something. As is, it's just another condo-maran. Cannot understand why people like that sort of thing, but apparently they do with 50 preproduction purchases on the books.
On a windy and rainy day Sailing will be really wet
That is better rudder control in high wind also.
What has Lagoon done to fix the common bulk head failures?
Those were built ten years ago and they have changed their build practice... from what they showed Zattara ..🤷🏻♂️
But i still dont like the open fly bridge concept its a seasonal Mediteranian plus Holliday's boat some nice styling and lots of features but a skin cancer or hypothermia boat to sail.

I think from what i remember in his report... they arranged a programme of inspections and offered remedial works to those vessels that hadnt been reported as having had hurricane damage or accidental groundings..
Its either in the end of the video where he visits the factory to discuss the matter or the one after that. 🤔👍🏼
With oceanic warming generating more high energy weather events from squalls, bombs and thunderstorms up to Hurricanes and Typhoons breaking out of their traditional ranges both geographically and seasonally.

Everybody hating on this Lagoon should ask themselves why are they so successful then? And so much criticism for the interior design but don't they know you can customise the decoration when you order the boat? And that all luxury boatbuilders in that price range offer the same minimalistic style? What are they doing commenting this video if they have no idea what they're talking about?

Noob question: why do sailing cats have trampolines but power cats can have a full front cockpit.
Bali has solid foredecks on the sailing cats, but I think they are alone. I think for everyone else there are some legacy choices in cat architecture having to do with designs built around older materials and methods. Makers are starting to lift the foredecks and connect them. Trampolines on some modern designs have shrunk to the point they might as well go full deck, ala Bali.
Where do all those cushions go in inclement weather?

No solar provision? Open exposed to the weather top cockpit? 50 sold before making production? Hmmmm. Not for me. I think lagoon needs some new designers?
All the pluses from Toby are about relaxation spots. The quality from lagoon is a joke compared to other French builders. They are now the hunter of cats.
