I love Chael. He's that guy who never says, "yeah, I wish I had thought of that in the moment! That would have been great!" He's the guy who ALWAYS has the zinger ready to roll, and 10 others on standby. Chael paved a totally unexpected path for a growing number of UFC fighters. Sonnen proved what a lot of us have previously learned from other major US sports; sometimes entertaining and gaining an audience is just as valuable as winning fights.
For example, I am a fan of McGregor and Khabib. While I can admit that Khabib is as a better fighter, I can also acknowledge that Conor did much more for the sport.
Much like any other major sport, there are multiple factors in the ultimate battle to reach success. But for MMA (UFC fans in specific), the crowd always enjoys a good story leading up to the fight, and the proof is clearly shown in the TV ratings and viewership numbers.
