After his stroke, Barney moved in down the street from me in San Diego. Out for a walk one day, I met him as his caretaker pushed him in his wheel chair. I told him I knew who he was and thanked him for his music. Sadly, he wasn't able to say much.
He left back the most valuable thing. Music
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
thank you for posting this! I've never heard him!
Why?
Excellent!
Barney Kessel, Jim Hall, Bill Evans, Paul Desmond, Joe Pass. These guys are the most cerebral, relaxing, gorgeous jazz musicians of all time. They are a gift to the world.
I second that. Undercurrent by Evans and Hall is one of my favourites. I always come back to it.
AMEN!
Don't forget Kenny Burrell
and Wes Montgomery ...and Stan Getz ...and Vince Guaraldi ...and Chet Baker ...how bout The Modern Jazz Quartet ...
LENNY BREAU
If there is one thing I love about this man's playing, it is his restraint. He is always aware of the melodic aspect of what he plays, and knows how to use space in his solos. I have been playing jazz for 15 years and it is not an easy feat to get. I am still working on it. Barney Kessel is an inspiration to us all!
It is way harder to play clear melodic ideas than it is to play thousands of dissonant notes. There is no hiding when you are playing melodies.
Don't forget Wes Montgomery!

Thanks for the great job, Ariel.
the ocrcovado threw me off, i didnt realize what it was at first...im so used to the jobim style on that one
Chordal solo mastery. The level he reached with the chords is unparalleled. Very difficult to do. And he kept progressing throughout his career, like a true master, never stopped learning.
Wes Montgomery
Joe pass also
@@curelable Wes is my hero!!!
I'm so happy to hear someone else think the same thing that I think but have no one that would actually appreciate my thoughts I would love to share thought s and music with you please respond!!
@@LucasMcSomthin First heard of barney kessel from a free disc from a music magazine when I was 17..46 yrs of age now but the music is timeless
He was the teacher of my late Mother, Dr. Valerie Wright. We still have her Kessel Gibson Hollow-body. Such a beautiful instrument. He was a true master of chord transgression!
Bk came to our school and someone asked hi his approach to solo guitar. He said its just like an orchestra. Proceeded to wail away. Yes. A one man orchestra. Always aware of the whole sound. Never gets caught up in a solo. Not trying to be artificially complex. Just giving it all.
Perhaps my favorite jazz guitarist!
mine too
How could I've miss this guy for so many years!!
Barney was a sought after studio guitarist as well . A part of the Wrecking Crew. One of the greatest ever.
Has to be one of the most genius jazz guitar albums I've ever heard.
The great Barney Kessel !!! I'm happy I`ve met him over here in Germany in the 1970ies ...
I went to a live Barney Kessel performance just before his stroke early 1990's in Melbourne Australia.I remember his bright red shoes. The drummer was the great Alan Browne and double bass was Leon Heale. No one could out swing Barney the session was awesome.
I was there.
rich harmonies. I'm learning immensely from this cat
Ted Greene loved his harmonies too
This was a fully analog recording chain and it went onto magnetic tape...I am not sure digital was even a dream back then. And yet all the warmth and expressiveness of one of Mankind's greatest musicians still comes through even after CZcams's horrifying audio compressing.
Damn. It blows me away every single time.
analog has more warmth than digital anyway
No wonder it sounds good despite the horrible CZcams sound
@@adambauer3424 exactly! Several musicians are building analog studios now to record. Digital sucks! I'm sorry, it does!
The best version of autumn leaves I have heard so far
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo, la mejor versión que yo he oído de este tema.
his mastery of the guitar bring tears to my eyes!
Many years ago I bought this LP... then I lent it to a "friend" and I loosed it... I´m happy to find it again at Youbue... Thanks, Diego Marchesi...
thanks a lot diego
Musical imagination, swing, feel, touch, technique, and most importantly, complete dedication to the music above all else, these are what make a great musician. Mr. Kessel is a prime exponent of all of these. Inspirational.
Love Barney. I try and try to play his arrangements. But Never ever able to hit all those notes in those amazing chords even after all these years. In a way I'm glad for it...
You must be a helluva player to even attempt! Good on ya!
Play Monk Blues
This is my pop's most favorite guitarist. :)
cong - good call by your pop, and this one of Barney's funkiest albums in my view :) cheers
Barney Kessel - Autumn Leaves l.p. great to hear Barney ! thnx diego wonderful !
the most beautiful thing i have heard
UNO DE LOS MAS GRANDES, MAESTRO DE LO QUE OIMOS HOY, QUIZAS PARA MI GUSTO INFRAVALORADO, SU LENGUAJE ES LIMPIO, SINCERO, CON ESE DUENDE QUE NOS GUIÑA A LOS QUE AMAMOS EL JAZZ, BARNEY ES EL AMIGO QUE SE SIENTA A TU LADO Y TE CUENTA SU HISTORIA Y LO QUE TE CUENTA TE GUSTA MUCHO POR QUE ES MUY BUENO. SIEMPRE QUE VEO UN DISCO SUYO ME LO COMPRO. SIENTA A BARNEY CONTIGO Y SABRAS PORQUE EL JAZZ ES TAN GRANDE Y EL UNO DE SUS MAGOS.
Excelente definición. Llena de verdad.Saludos.
+Alberto Germán Hernández un saludo y viva el buen JazzSantos
Santos Ortiz Pérez homie I don't even speak yo language and I feel u
El guitarrista favorito de mi padre, el también hacía lo suyo en la guitarra.
truly great guitar playing. I have been playing guitar for years and just now have come to appreciate what Barney is doing on the instrument!
Love this !! Been playing for years and I might be able to do some of this ........ One Day. !!!!!!!!
I love this chord melody stuff. Can't do it to save my life, but I love it. It's like they hear the guitar in totally different way.
Wow! He's one of my favorites! I love his laid back style.
I've listened to a lot of jazz guitar records. Somehow I missed this record. I love it
It's 2021 now and I'm still listening to his music. The man is a pure genius.
This record is a lofi hip hop record gold mine

Everyday. Everyday, I treasure this. Thank you!
I have this album and it is nice to have it on YT for easy access and sharing. Thanks!
I like this album; beautiful music!
1:40 instant smile
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down?
+link wray they don't like the name Barney and probably Robert Gordon
+link wray Probably they don´t like any music...
+link wray i was thinking how odd it was that the video has only 9 downstrokes, and 941 upstrokes ^-^
+link wray some people don't like shredding that's why they gave thumbs down. I myself love this self indulgent shredfest.. I gave a thumbs up
i gave it thumbs down, just to feel what it's like. Love the music though !
Uno dei più gradi. Grazie e delicatezza.
The absolute master of chords. This guy beats them all for 'Listenability'. I try, and fail to play his stuff.
Que sonzera
Amazing guitar
Bealtiful!
can't stop listening to this. Gotta get the CD !
AAAAAMAZING! THANK YOU!
I love how he varies his tone for each arrangement. Nobody would catch up to this idea for quite a while after in the jazz world
Good touch, feeling , virtuose and sound 👌👌👌
Everlasting Barney KESSEL ! ...
what a legend
I love his amazing run on Contemporary ‘55-‘65. Poll Winners, Easy Like, Some Like It Hot, etc, etc. Soundtrack of my life. Thanks BK❤️
Listinening to this album I started loving jazz guitar... It's amazing
The sound and its notes are like a plush comb, brushing across my brain
Lovely !
love the phrasing!
thanks
Non ci sono più solisti come questo genio!
Great jazz guitar by Barney Kessel !
Very relaxing composition ! Kick back relax and enjoy life sounds !
this is real jazz, not smooth jazz , it is classic jazz guitar

I've been listening to jazz for over 25 years and I just discovered this guy a few years ago, God I love Pandora... very underrated..he's fantastic.
malbug
Kessel was a giant at his kind of jazz. He had a brilliant career, and died at age 80 in 2004 from a brain tumor.
Very sad....
Great stuff!
Wonderful.
Bravo....Bravo!!!
One of Me (And My Dads) All Time Favorite Jazzers
Definitely one of the Best

Nice! Very Nice!
Más de una vez me sucedió que al final de la reproducción miro la info, y siempre es de Diego jaja Gracias Diego!
A Guitarra Jazzística Em Traje De Gala.NOTA 10.
This guy is the reason I still play guitar so underestimated I had no idea what he could do until I listened to this album and another one of his front to back
He’s not underestimated. He’s considered to be among the very few topmost elite if not the very best. Ever.
Beauty!
belle découverte !!!!
the beginning of aquarius is beautiful..very nice

I believe Barney actually met Charlie Christian, who was his idol.No doubt Charlie would be extremely pleased with the work that Barney did in his amazing career.
¡Versión mágica de Corcovado !
