  • Welcome to this weeks video, I wanted to share with you all a normal day for me.
I am feeing nervous about sharing this video as I know that there are some strong views on the way I am training with the horses. I hope if you do have views on this you will remember that there are many ways to get to the same outcome so to be kind when you comment.
I have attached a link to my Patreon page below for anyone that is interested in learning more about the ground work.

I hope you enjoy the video and maybe learn something new.
    best wishes Miri

I sincerely wish that more trainers would approach things as you do. Focusing on relaxation, trust and the horses comfort and understanding is far better than most of the other tactics.

Love your videos! Grew up showing. Saw your video on anxiety in the ring. I know you've probably received tons of unsolicited advice but...I would like to encourage you from a former show competitor. One reason I love watching your channel is that it's like watching a slice of my childhood. I think in one of your vlogs you were in the field, closed your eyes, inhaled, and said of the smell of horse manure "I can smell my childhood"-with a big smile on your face. I can totally relate. Not too many people can say that about horse manure! So please take what I am about to say as encouragement, and not criticism, as I so wish I had met more trainers like you when I was riding. You seem to really understand the mind-body connection that a horse needs to understand to perform at his/her best. While I wasn't blessed with trainers like yourself, I did have an amazing quarter horse who literally changed my life and shaped who I am as a person today. But back to you...Since you understand this sensitivity within a horse's nature, I'm sure that you also understand that as soon as you get on your horse's back, you can understand he absorbs whatever energy you have going on. So even if you have done your ground work in preparing him, if you are full of nerves, he's likely picking up on that. As you well know, he's looking to you for guidance. So he's looking for the devil in your details, including the energy you are giving off. (I'm not saying this to add pressure to you, rather to encourage you-just stay with me-remember, I've been in the show ring and I've been to Nationals in America). This means you have more power than you think. This means you can empower yourself to overcome the anxiety holding you back. People need a mind-body connection too. In the regional show videos I watched, you shared that you have some Muscleskeletal issues (hip muscles). Have you thought of trying something like simple yoga that deals with mindfulness in the here and now as well as gentle stretching. Again, stay with me :-) I used to think it was stupid. But then I tried it-much later in life, out of shape, a Christian told to stay far away from those New Age things. BUT, I found that it can be tailored to my needs. For me, I have a disorder that is helped by certain poses that stretch out my muscles and I can "meditate" on what I wanted to the music I like. For you, tailor it to the ground work with the horse you are showing. I also struggle with anxiety...and the breathing techniques I can adapt in almost any given situation without anyone noticing. How could this play out? You learn 3 simple poses and deep breathing you can practice with Obe in his stall after ground work when he's relaxed. You learn to practice the breathing when at home training. You practice the breathing until it becomes second nature every time you think about, ride and see your dressage patterns. You exchange deep breathing and yoga for "quick stretching" before the show. Incorporate meditation during this time if you like. It doesn't need to take 30 minutes-I remember what it was like-you don't have 30 minutes. But do take the time you need to quiet your mind body and spirit. Just like your horses, you can't take care of them, if you don't take care of you. Feed yourself so you can continue to feed them.

I love your vlogs and your training methods. It's like you go out of your way to be sure the horse is comfortable and happy. Your methods are positive and the horses respond to you. Kudos. P.S. Don't worry so much about what others think!!! Do what comes from your heart.

Love all of the ground work! I do ground work before every ride with my horse. He’s similar to Obi where I tend to lose his focus and then he’ll become worried about outside things and sometimes have big explosions. The ground work really helps them to focus on you and learning to control their feet if they become worried. I love my double diamond rope halters as well! Awesome video! Keep up the good work with the ground work!

I always do some ground work before riding and then do a session of lounging once a week. This spring I did a solid four weeks of long lining because my gelding and I were having problems under saddle and now revisiting those foundations our problems are much better and more manageable now.

Am also a fan of running martingales for uneducated horses. Properly fitted and adjusted, they don't come into action until needed and don't affect the horse's normal way of going. I also use them when doing something with an educated in exciting situations.

Loved the long vlog! I am left wondering what sandwich you got and what you wanted... 🤔. Ground work makes so much sense to me, it's like the building block cos of your relationship, and it's great that you keep visiting those good memories, sort of like a banking system, you're putting money in, in hope that one day when you need to draw on that reserve you have enough to be ok. Which is something I've learnt with training birds (sound weird maybe, but if you watch birdtricks channel, maybe you understand better what I mean). It's learning how to cope better with stress and how to better deal with stress when it does come. The right upbringing is everything for most creatures, including us humans, but even if this hasn't been met before, it is never too late to build up on that "ground work" as you call it. Please correct me if I've missed the meaning. I would love to watch more of how you do groundwork, because I live the concept and this style of upbringing, and not only for horses, I don't have a horse and probably will never have one, but I enjoy your videos (and Instagram) so entertaining and enjoyable, you help me to relax and I look forward to hearing what you have to say, I laugh with you and learn from you. 48min video is never too long 😉

I've been following your channel for just over a year now and i have to say you've become one of my favorite youtubers! Your videos are always so informative and your horses/stable are stunning! I'm just starting to learn groundwork with my 5yo TB gelding. Aside from your Patron page, can you recommend any books that can help with groundwork? I also have a question i've been dying to know the answer to but i feel stupid asking. For mares that are expecting foals that were artificially inseminated, do they realize they are pregnant? I mean obviously with live cover they'd know but i'm confused about the AI. Do you think once their body starts to change they know somethings up? Or they know the whole time? Or is it just a surprise when the baby pops out?

Can I ask does Mo bang the door at all?? The best thing I did is take the pads off my mare. I found it got so hard under the leather pads (stuff they put under the pad.) She was bare foot and sound for 6 months however her stride wasn’t quite a big as before so my Newmarket vet suggested we try Webber shoes (I believe thats what they are called) maybe double check with vet/farrier. She’s so so much more comfortable🤞🏼 it’s been 6 months so far and I hope this is our solution.

Mos hoofes look very long and the coronary band looks very uneven . She told me that it could be an indicator that the hoof itself it not used the way it should be. Some breeds have a brand to discourage thief's. He would be easily traced back to miri as they are impossible to remove. It is on his back so when doing ridden shows it is hidden as the look isn't "desirable".
