to me, the theme of this album is a grounded exploration of community. a friendly bondfire with friends, that’s kind if all it is. a lot of their music is made and inspired by campfires in the Scottish rural countryside, so that’s kind of what this album seems to center around
Hell yeah i was waiting for this. The last album they have so far is called "Tommorow's Harvest" and is defintly their most polarising,it contains themes of nuclear winter and desolation, i personally really love it and i think its even darker than geogaddi because it tackles real world issues. i think it would make for an interresting video. also an eventual reaction to "Death's dynamic shroud - Ill try living like this" would be interresting its a reallly weird and insane psychedelic electronic album
There is a theme throughout which is pretty much about a psychodelic trip while camping in nature. I don't know if you heard Burial but if you haven't, you should definitely react to his album Untrue, and then to his subsecuent EPs: Street Halo, Kindred and Truant.
Around the time this was released, a friend told me "the new BoC has guitars on it" and I can still remember the worry in my heart as I put it on for the first time. "This can't possibly be good, with guitars?!" And of course it was, and is, good. Hot take, Coldplay wish they wrote "Dayvan Cowboy".
I did some research and apparently the lyrics on "84 Pontiac Dream" are actually the lyrics of the song "Pontiac Sunfire" by $UICIDEBOY$. It says these are the lyrics on multiple websites, this should be fixed.
I would really love to see you react to "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?" by "of Montreal" - there aren't a lot of reactions to this band on CZcams and it's a brilliant record. The frontman Kevin Barnes wrote and recorded most of the album while having a nervous breakdown due to the collapse of their marriage, but recovered before the album was complete. You get the complete journey of their insanity through the masterful lyrics and manic songwriting. The band are part of the Elephant 6 collective which also include Neutral Milk Hotel. Thanks x
The best track on the album is a japanese only release of a song called macquarie ridge. It was only ever released there, and you're doing yourself a disservice by not hearing it. I have no idea why they didn't release it on streaming, but be sure to check it out.
Im new to BOC, already listened all discography, this is my fav album from them, I love guitars and before BOC the only I was listening is Pink Floyd mostly and Porcupine Tree, so progressive rock and metal. And this guitar contains absolutely all that I love in music in general, atmosphere. However, my first listen was Music Has The Right To Children.
Great take at the end, I love this album for the songs on their own but I think their other albums are more albumy if that makes sense? And don’t be ashamed of loving Dayvan Cowboy, there’s a reason it’s the most popular song. I’ve been listening to it for ten years and still adore it
I'd love if you listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective!! It's a breathtaking album that is just such a blast to listen to. No words really do it justice
Just recently came across your Boards of Canada reactions and I'm really loving these! BTW I noticed your comment about Farewell Fire's fading out which yeah I can agree, it shouldn't fade out because I can't get enough of it. So luckily there's already a version of the song that has no fade out: czcams.com/video/1vO2ohtYvJI/video.html
I guess it has no "meanings" like Geogaddi, just supposed to be a more laid back album, different turn from what they were doing, once referred as formulaic by critics.. Easy to go with, I like it a lot, but as you listen more to their albums/EPs, it will probably end up being the least interesting one.. Maybe..
During the long fade out the melody changes and there is an extra synth so yeah that was intentional probably trying to make like a hidden track from that
After watching few of your videos, I had to subscribe to you. You listen to some of my all time artists and I enjoy your comments on it. I'd love to suggest few albums, I'm sure you already know some of them, but I'll do it anyway (apologies for the lenght) Kate Bush - Kick Inside, Dreaming and Hounds of love Cocteau Twins - Treasure, Heaven or Las Vegas Radiohead - Bends, OK Computer, Kid A Massive Attack - Mezzanine Cure - Disintegration, Pornography Slint - Spiderland Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F♯ A♯ Infinity, Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven Calexico - The Black Light, Feast of Wire Laibach - Nova Akropola Happy Rhodes - Many World are Born Tonight
Its possible the amount of guitars used in the records is a callback to there unreleased early tapes you can hear alot of guitar on those unreleased leaked demo tapes
I’ve only just realised everything you do is a balloon is actually not on this album after my Alexa sticks it on before Oscar see through red eye so check HI SCORES out
dayvan cowboy has to be the most emotion inducing song i've ever heard
One of my fave songs of all time. First BoC song I ever heard and I never heard anything like it before. Magical

you nailed it here, its literally just about chillin by campfires
This is probably my favorite alblum by them like it is probably one of the most happy and mellow sounding ambient alblums ever

I’ve heard hiders by burial and I love that song

IIRC “‘84 Pontiac Dream” was the earliest track recorded (shortly after Geogaddi’s release) hence why it is so much more synth based
Hey Saturday Sun is my favorite track of theirs. It feels like you’re watching a bird fly into a sunset.
I did some research and apparently the lyrics on "84 Pontiac Dream" are actually the lyrics of the song "Pontiac Sunfire" by $UICIDEBOY$. It says these are the lyrics on multiple websites, this should be fixed.
Slow this Bird Down/Tears from the Compound Eye gives this album such a smooth landing

Apparently, it's the small, fragmented memories of a 12 day acid trip.

I take it back, this is still my fave BoC album. So chill and trippy

This and Geogaddi are the best

MoC is a very easy track, just playing with high pass filter.
Its possible the amount of guitars used in the records is a callback to there unreleased early tapes you can hear alot of guitar on those unreleased leaked demo tapes
This would be a major change of pace, but I'd like to see your reaction to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Elton John).
I've never listen to any Elton John besides rocket man so that would be interesting
@@smags1082 thanks bro
