So I was dating a young lady who's brother was in a band with Shannon before blind melon. My girlfriend brother asked us if we wanted to go to a winery called Oliver's before a big music festival a little further south in Bloomington. Long story short, Shannon was with him at the winery!! We had some wine tasting and cheese and then we all went to the concert together and had a blast. A little before it was over, Shannon gets a message from a rodey for John Mellencamp who was working for one of the bands. The message...... do you want to come to Lake Monroe to John's house for an after party. Apparently John and axel were either back stage at the concert or observing in cognito. So of course we tagged along, because we'll who wouldn't and John said it would be OK. Elaine Irwin who was John's wife at the time told the security to let us through the gate. Next thing I know I'm in a room with these 3 incredible musicians and quite a few more people. I'm not going to exaggerate and say that we became best friends, but they did know my name within the hour or so being in their immediate presence. I'm guessing there were some other famous people there that night but my full attention was with the fact that I was sitting within 10 feet of these 3 guys, who I absolutely loved, and felt like I was part of their inner circle.
John actuality gave me tickets to the Hoosier basketball game against Purdue for the following winter. I think it was January or February 94. John actually had his own little personal space at assembly hall, so we met him in that room before the game for a few minutes and went on our way.
Needless to say I cherish every minute I spent that day and could almost recite the entire encounter.
Thanks for asking me to relive this and share my story.

I had a friend at PU at the time and he was friends of a friend kind of deal with axel. They were obviously a little older than us so they had moved on from Lafayette by then, so the party was my only interaction with him.

Axl doesn't get the recognition he deserves as a vocalist. He's got a 6 octave range like Freddie Mercury. Mariah Carey is 7. The guy can sing. I saw GNR 3 yrs ago. One of the best shows I saw. Took my 18 yr old son to see them Madison Square Garden. Started on time. Played 3 1/2 hrs. No breaks, no rants. Only time Axl spoke to the audience was to introduce the band.

Didn't knew this band before, but they rocked it. Loved that show and sound a lot and bought all GNR records after that! :-) So actually it's not a GNR-fan-audience, but a Queen-audience give all they can. That's why Axl said before the audience sang the last part: "Let's make this one reach to heaven!" (to Freddie Mercury). And you can see that the people are wearing Freddie- and Queen-Shirts as well.

I was at this show, the first concert I took my younger brother too, kicked a##, my child has grown with me playing the 12" single that has this performance on and pointing out I'm one of the screaming crowd....

Led Zeppelin were pioneers and have a huge body of awesome work.
Guns n roses were great but had the benefit of years of great bands to follow. Thier body of work will never match Zeppelins.

I wish they were half this good at the show I attended back in the day! Maybe if they had been on time instead of 2 hours late and Slash had been sober instead of completely wasted, just maaaybe it may have been a decent show! And Slash is amazing and I'm a huge fan, but, he is not better than Jimmy Page!

Having not seen this in a bit. A couple years. Not 29! I noticed the camera angles were a lil different right away. Thats probably why i kept watching. When i saw Slash get a smoke from the side stage, it was confirmed. It was slighly different than the US version the whole way thru.

I think I’ve seen 2 or 3 different versions of this performance which cut between different cameras. This one was slightly different than the original U.K. live broadcast.

GNR is one of the greatest bands of all time in my opinion and people may disagree. I think they paved the way between 80s hair band and 90s grunge. And you may not know this, but Axl Rose sings at the upper echelon of singers!

I love Guns n Roses, any song by them is great. I just wish people would react more to Civil War, Get In The Ring, You Could Be Mine and many others. I love watching people react to the great bands that I grew up with but it's always the same songs, Sweet Child O Mine, Paradise City, Don't Cry (RIP Shannon) and this one. Would be nice to hear reactions to the others
