with my Australian Shepherd Finnegan at my side we hiked along the north shore of Lake Erie (yes, not a sea) until we came upon a good spot to have a sit down and make a carving of the classic old salty fisherman
the wood is Basswood and i started from a 2x2.5x7" piece .Axe is a Kalthoff and the main knives were Drake and OCCTools. If you like this kind of thing please hit the subscribe button and make sure the notifications are on for more to come, thx - Zábava
all that carving... and no coffee....its just has to be fake production''
Right?!! So the scoop is..I had my Kelly kettle in my backpack as well as a new coffee and was really looking forward to it but you may see as the wind picked up so did the waves and I was running out of real estate quick and had to hurry up and get out.regardless ,on the way back I was walking along the cliffs in the water in spots 😁
...that's what I was thinking too, lol....ahh, a nice day at the beach, thanks Doug, now you have to carve, Sadie
You just proved no one needs a workshop to carve, what a great idea whittling in the wilderness ( ;
Started watching in Porto Vecchio, Corsica, with a glass of rosé, paused because we had to catch a flight. Continued last night, near Antibes, France with a glass of whiskey but paused to play Whist with the family. Finally have a cup of coffee this morning to watch the rest. Love your videos Doug.
This is one of my all time favorites. Beautiful to watch and Lake Erie sounds magnificent, thanks for bringing us along🌞
Great video! Felt a little bad, I was drinking coffee watching you carve. Thank you for the videos. Gorgeous scenery to sit and carve.
I'm amazed, at 56 you have inspired me to carve, I enjoy watching your videos, and have made several bird feeders and several ornaments and hillbillies, I've learned a lot from you .....thank you Doug!
Doug, sure would like to Old Fisherman see this video as a tutorial. I, like others, would get so much more out of the "how to" carving. Keep up the great videos.
You get a mix - you want a tutorial because you carve but many don’t and just like to watch.
@@dougLinker Doug, your tutorials got me back into carving after 37 year pause.. Those that "just watch" question whether they too have the ability to take up carving because you make it look so easy. As you have said many times in your videos, it's easy to change types of hats, beards, etc on your carvings. The real question is how many people took up carving because of your tutorials and your presentation style. Bottom line, your tutorials are great.... keep it up. I look forward to each one you produce. Suggestion... on one of your Wednesday live casts ask the question the number of people that just watch for the intertainment and those that actually use your tutorials to attempt to carve. That would give you the feedback you need.
Keep doing your craft. When I have a good project I dont need a lot of other things. Im sated. Glad to meet Old Salty.
You are truly amazing and a Artist too ! Great looking carving ! Love watching your channel ! Thanks Doug Linker !
Beautiful!! Thank you for taking us along.
Enjoyed! Before 9/11 our scout troop used to have two planned campouts in Ontario. One at Point Pelee about April 17th for smelt dipping and the other at the Pinery Provincal Park in September. Your video reminded me of how beautiful Canada is and how sorry I am that we had to stop those trips because of the re-entry process of bring 70 plus kids packed into a dozen vehicles a logistical nightmare. The other trip the older boys enjoyed was the canoe trek from the scout base way above Northen Minnesota. Discovered the hard way that Portages between lakes often met carrying the canoe over a small mountain. Thanks for doing the video.
Got my coffee ,up popped a Dougie video what a good Sunday morning for me
Beautiful spot , loved your old man nd the sea. The whole session was very relaxing. Thank you.!!
love the sound of the waves on the beach
Someone with your creativity and skills must have built some amazing homes over the years. Such a relaxing video, thanks for sharing.

Last time I carved a wood spirit by following your tutorial, I cut my thumb about an inch. Cannot wait for it to heal, so I can try again. Thanks for your excellent content, I appreciate your effort you put in all your videos, Doug!
Thank you! Just starting out and your videos are the teaching standard for people like myself!
Awesome. I’m on the other side of Erie! Found your videos, and then my dads exacto carving set from the 70’s. Going to learn and old salty looks great. Thank you
What a beautiful setting and wonderful sound of waves. Doug, I seem to not have enough hours in the day and admire how you manage to do all these great vids while holding down a job, do part-time work at the church and have family time. Thank you!

Great carving & beautiful scenery.
Thats amazing Doug.. I can't even begin to visualize a carved figure like that. Great Stuff.
Hi Doug - I like your basement productions much better. The detail provides a much better tutorial which enables me to reproduce. I usually modify the carvings after I learn your base technique but this version just makes it harder. Thanks as always. Ron
+Ron Ruethain Not a tutorial -was never meant to be
Ok Newfoundlander here! I would love one of those guys carved by the one and only Doug. LOL
I legitimately fell asleep at one point, the sound of water puts me at peace. Being from the east coast I'm used to hearing the water, but the novelty never wears off. Cheers.
Doug you are so talented! I love your carvings, keep making videos I really enjoy watching all of them camping included😊

rockytop wrangler just a wee bit curious, what was the inspiration for your CZcams name? It's really none of my business if you prefer not to answer.
@@ireneburke1732 ..Name derived from 50 + years hiking and fishing throughout many areas of the Rockies high country...
Nice one Doug! Finn is such a handsome boy. Thanks for the beautiful location
We live near the southern shore of that lake. I enjoyed carving your first version of the sea captain 👩✈️. The pipe was my first decorative challenge. Thanks for posting this one 👏👏😎
great video Doug......Skilful and still intriguing without narration..Stay Safe
I could watch and learn from you for hours... I do actually

Excellent work, Doug. Love your channel. 👍
I was waiting for coffee with great anticipation. When I saw there was only a few minutes left, I paused, put the kettle on, and made a brew. Resumed the video and had a coffee for both of us. Great video. Much appreciated.
I feel like I need to make some coffee in your honor! This was such a peaceful video, I could have watched another hour of it.

Loving these carving video's!
This video was so peaceful & relaxing!
Hey Doug I found your channel back in May of 2019. I am retiring in Jan of twenty and was trying to think of something to do while traveling the U. S. For a year or so. Your cravings of your three inch guys are it. I followed your video from start to finish about eight times then stumbled along on my own. I just finished number 23. I love carving these guys. Can’t wait for the next ones.
Didn't know Doug had cravings for three inch guys 😉
I have been looking for one for weeks. Thanks Doug.
Nice !!! The old dude has character. Nicely captured Doug. And, Finnegan KNOWS how to just "hang" with dad. What a good boy.
Excellent video. I envy you being able to find some quiet shore. Here in the Twin Cites, MN, it's tough to find some lonely lake side.
he's wonderful! thank-you
Beautiful video, amazing talent. 👍👍👍👍
Good to see a carving vid again; and like "me" said...Where's the coffee??!!
Awesome 👏
Great work as usual,; carving, video, editing. Thanks for sharing.
Loved it!👍👍
I love watching your video,You're very original,no one can do the same.Keep it that way my friend!
Old Salty's been though many a storm. He's seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Great setting Doug! I suspect we have been here before. Lose the beard and add.a parrot and you would have the "salty sea dog" from Revenge of the Pink Panther! Thanks for using a wider variety of tools the last couple of videos! 👍
The Bob Ross of carving. Love the video. I had a little sense of Shawn James in there as well with the no talking.
You have a gift Doug. Thanks for sharing it with everyone
the first carving video i ever did in 2015 had no talking haha -Sycamore Sam
Very nice carve. I’ll be reflecting on your words of wisdom in this one for some time.
What a FANTASTIC studio you had for yourself here. I love watching you take a blank of wood and carve Old Salty into it. Beautiful job
Love watching your videos Doug. There is a lot or genuinity in em. Good luck
Love it and thanks... be safe.... nice sounds of water... Talking is not necessary.. thanks...
You are very cool! with pleasure I watch your video. It is very inspiring! Thank you!
Kinda funny how they all look like you LOL!!!!!! Well done Doug!!!!
Well, I enjoyed MY coffee, while watching you carve, and relaxing to the sound of the waves on the shore.
Brilliant video as always. Thanks to you I've now got into carving and whittling!
nice! glad to hear it
Thanks for sharing this doug👍 you had a great spot to do it in. Kind of a bummer that you had to cut is short due to the inland tide coming in.
Loved the hatchet carving as well. It’s a technique that is fading fast.
Thank you for showing!
