You are the first reviewer to mention the jitteriness that comes from the rear axles on small sharp bumps. Thumbs up. Very nice review and would've liked more off-road challenges.

Agreed it would have been nice to go a little further into the off-road but understandably our friends at Lexus were a little jittery about us going too hard on their $90k SUV. Additionally, our time with the vehicle was very short. The good news is, that what we did to wasn't even a challenge to the thing.

Sam, could you do a comparison review between this and the landcruiser considering points like interior space, offroad capability, premium versus regular fuel.

LX570 is a great capability than any other luxury SUV. It is the only one monster of Japanese made #LX570

TLC 200 and LX 500 have significantly different suspension systems, so they are not mechanically identical. This machine, and the LC also lack locking differentials on either side, relying instead on ATRAC which uses the brake system to manage an otherwise open diff. This overheats quickly and disables itself. You'd be lucky to get 15 minutes into the rubicon before you needed to stop to let the system cool.
I just picked one of these up, trading in my '13 lr4 with the HD package. It's a downgrade in every respect except reliability and build quality. Most significant are that hte LX disables nearly all offroad features (yes even hill descent control) when not in Low Range, the LX lowers its suspension at 18 MPH, as opposed to 30 in the lR4, LX lacks a rear locker, LX doesn't have extended venting for rear diff, transfer case, or trans (meaning fluid changes after going through a mere 16" of water), the LX has a less spacious 3rd row that takes up a quarter of the available storage space the lr4's 3rd row takes none when stowed, and the LX's 3 camera system is completely unusable offroad compared to the extremely useful HD Vision 5 camera system on the lr4.
If money is an object, and you are doing short offroading trips with a group, lr4 is superior in almost every way. If you need to go out into the desert for a week with no support vehicles, then the TLC200/LX570 start to look a lot better but it _will_ needs mods to be equally capable offroad.

You forgot to mention that the" lr4" is complete trash and the lx570 is legendary in every corner of the world. Must of slipped your mind.

I’ll guess safety features (blind spot monitor, lane keep) and navigation. I believe the GX had blind spot in 2014. However, it a compromise, low tech for high reliability.

The hydraulic (oil) lift system is worth the 4 grand itself. I use it all the time with hooking up trailers it makes life a breeze. Unlike shocks that sag when you hook up heavy tongue weight this automatically will level itself off because of that system. It is amazing. Remember though when you tow a trailer and hit 65+ miles an hour the rear hydos drop 2 inches for a smoother ride so make sure your drop hitch is prepared for a level trailer.
