A completely unique song. Nothing sounded like it at the time or since.
It’s still boring as shit
@MartinEden1984 who hates morbid angel?
The closest thing I've listened to is Vittring by Humanity's Last Breath. Different type of metal. But very heavy, creepy, slow and powerful.
This song is super scary. I am terrified.
@@MetalVoid0nice track. I would also include from skin to liquid. and almost all portal songs are way creepier
Back when Death Metal was really good at building atmosphere.
And still really good
And lyrically for most bands at the time.
They was best with David Vincent
Still is, just listen to the right bands.
E P. What are the right bands to listen to? I'm really curious what other bands have the atmosphere thhing going on.
this music video holds up even today. most death metal music videos are really cheesy or just opt for the bland "show the band playing and looking cool" approach. this song and video truly feel like theyre touching on something ancient and esoteric. its dark, its kind of creepy, and theres a sense of artistry. one of the best death metal music videos of all time. the black and white coloring, the archaic structures theyre filming in, the weird skinny guy who turns into some kind of humanoid bat (very good costume and make up), the monks...this transcends.
It's a cool video...I always liked the video for "Rapture" better though.
yeah that ones good too.
Best Death Metal video period IMO. No record company spent this kind of $$ on a Death Metal video since as far as I can tell. I always assumed the guy in the vid turned into a demon via devil worship, after "bowing splendidly" to Satan, haha.
Go take a look at what behemoth has released over the years, not to mention their last album videos, which are fucking insane.
Behemoth music videos are pretty fuckin cool too, yeah.
David Vincent was lyrically ahead of all the other bands at the time, as was Treys riffs and Sandovals drumming, they were like the Led Zeppelin of Death Metal!
Man ill get shunned...and i never even thought this would come from my thoughts...but you might be right...even existo vulgore...from what they say is their worst album...showed riffs that i cant believe...and drums? Shit...even tha vocals were on spot for that...even zepplin...had bunk songs....
Trey wrote all the lyrics, other than on domination and illud.
they were awesome
@@Baltimore_Hood_Vines_2014 Incorrect. Vincent wrote all of the lyrics for Covenant (except for Angel of Disease, that one is Trey's) and most of the lyrics on Altars of Madness and Blessed are the Sick.
good comparison, at the moments they are so musically tight and virtuosic that zeppelin comes to a mind, and basically perfect discogrpahy as the zepp
I love the ritualistic and instructive nature of this song.

I remember hearing the "bow to me faithfully" part when I was really young and it scared the hell out of me.
all you had to do was to bow to him faithfully and splendidly
@@LouisZephyr lol... it took me a few years to give in to the darkness
Same my dad never told me he had this song on his burnt CD and being a 4 year old waking up to this song playing on my headphones in the middle of the night scared the hell out of me, especially since all i knew at 4 years old we're more of bands like hendrix, pink floyd, queen, motley crue (yes i know how dare I say a glam band) scorpions, Judas priest, and a bit of metallica megadeth and pantera since he didn't have most of the albums.
So i never knew music like this existed. But on that faithful night i discovered death metal and i was intrigued like crazy...... And here I am 21 years later 🤣
I remember hearing it when I was a junior in high school and it still scared the crap out of me. Hell y'all, it's scaring the shit out of me right now.
@@alansixx3446 Motley Crue gets called a glam band and everyone thinks they're weak. I don't fucking get it. They put out dark albums.
Wow, this really is a piece of audio-visual Art.
Whoever produced the music video really captured the essence and drama of the song.
Way ahead of it's time.
They still donot make it like this imo... Its very rare when they do..
They just needed some priests trying to fondle young children.

Tony Kunewalder directed this video and Rapture. He died shortly after in a fire.
The makeup of this video is a lot better than the horrible CGI of a lot of actual movies
Good to know I'm not the only one who thinks that modern CGI sucks
Il trucco in questo video è molto meglio degli orribili effetti speciali dei film di oggi
I miss when movies used practical effects with cgi effects, and not just CGI
Ikr WTF it's amazing
The way he looks at the sky and asks "So what makes you supreme?" Is so powerful

Do you have the lämps Bröther fucking love it haaha

guitar tone and bass drum are perfect.
The guitar tone has always been a favourite of mine. Some may call it "murky" these days, and that's fine, but I feel it adds to the darkness.
Guitars could use more gain honestly. An overdrive pedal would help. But what’s great about it is that is has excellent midrange, a polar opposite of death metal bands scooping their sound, Morbid Angel did the opposite here.
I don't give a damn what anyone says, this song is a masterpiece. No death metal collection would be complete without it.
People will always talk there are stupids that don't respect others taste
If you like this kind of music, check out “Lost Paradise” by Paradise Lost

Morbid Angel will always be an all time favorite. Azagtoth’s guitar work is remarkable.
I first heard this in the mid 90s on some late night metal show on MTV, and man ther was nothing like it, the riffage was so twisted, sickly and deformed, and also gave me a sense of darkness and power, the vocals are fantastic to both the growls and the clean parts, lyrics are great also, and the video really captures the atmosphere of the song, morbid angel really were a special unique band, it's around this time that I was really into alt rock, Soundgarden,AIC,nirvana etc. But i could really see the great music death metal had to offer and have been a fan ever since.
This masterpiece was the gateway for gateways of annihilation..
