Food Glorious Food
Written by: LIONEL BART
Is it worth the waiting for,
If we live till eighty-four
All we ever get is gruel,
Every day we say our prayers
Will they change the bill of fair?
Still we get the same old gruel
There's not a crust not a crumb
Can we find can we beg can we borrow or cadge,
But there's nothing to stop us from getting a thrill,
When we all close our eyes and imagine,
Food glorious food
Hot sausage and mustard
While we're in the mood cold jelly and custard
Pease pudding and saveloys
What next is the question?
Rich gentlemen have it boys
IN-DI-GESTION
Food glorious food
What is there more handsome
Gulped swallowed or chewed
Still worth a kings ransom
What is it we dream about?
What brings on a sigh?
Piled peaches and cream about six feet high
Food glorious food
Were anxious to try it
3 banquets a day
Our favourite diet
Just picture a great big steak fried, roasted or chewed
For food marvelous food wonderful food magical food fabulous food beautiful food
GLORIOUS FOOD - Hudba

Boys born, loses identity, goes through trials, gains identity. Classic Hollywood.

I agreed lol
Who is Sid?
Hotel? Trivago Sid the sloth in ice age obviously.
Danielle Dewitt obviously... just making sure ... 😬😂

I do not envy, and have infinite respect for the director of this film.
Corralling *this many* small children in such perfect sync would have been nearly impossible.
Mad respect.
Maybe in it was the fact that in the uk kids back in the 1960s were a lot more well mannered at the time, because of their more stricter parents.
@@Gumsterproductions Manners have nothing to do with it, that many kids are going to have trouble staying *perfectly in sync*.
Why not am I missing something?
They took the best pupils from dance / singing classes and rehearsed. Not that hard to learn when you’re a kid and love it.
The choreographer was Ms. Onna White. The director was Sir Carol Reed. They got an Oscar each for their work on this film. The whole company rehearsed for months before filming started, and after filming started they kept going until they got what they considered were the perfect takes of each scene…
This song speaks to me on VERY high levels

Hard to believe, but poor houses, orphanages and schools for poor or low income children in 17th and 18th century England used to actually be this awful. The early chapters of Charlotte Bronte's *Jane Eyre* feature a charity school for girls (paid for by philanthropists but very badly managed) that was always damp and never warm enough (in winter time, the water they were supposed to wash their hands and faces with would be frozen solid in the basins)
with cheap clothing that was not sufficient to keep them warm, and a near-starvation diet. Some of the older girls would snatch bits of food away from the littler ones.
The school was drawn from life. The author attended it as a child, and her two elder sisters died there. The school was closed in scandal when an epidemic revealed how bad conditions had been.
My family were like that.
Well not all but it was illegall so then the mean guys got arrested
Imagine how privileged you have to be to find this hard to believe. This is still a reality in some parts of the world.
@@goatwarrior3570 Where are there still Dickensian workhouses, orphanages and poorhouses?
Very extreme poverty exists, and also nations where the government can't or won't help the poor in an adequate way, etc (indeed, compared to fully industrialized nations, the US is behind and has some issues on that point)
but I'm not aware of that particular form anywhere...it still exists?
@@melissasaint3283 Way to be as pedantic as possible. Obviously I was referring to terrible conditions in orphanages and child labour in various parts of the world, not literal Dickensian workhouses, you absolute plank.
I didn't even know the Ice Age song was a parody of a song from another movie
This is so cool omg
I'm a school dinner lady. Whilst serving the children their dinner it always makes me think of this scene in Oliver.

Really talented good looking kids probably mostly british !!!!!
I always think of that where they are now 🤔
You really like boys don't you?
there was a documentary on itv years ago interviewing the young boys who played the roles. Many by then were normal middle-aged men no longer acting and doing normal jobs.
Agree
Oliver is arguably in the top 10 musicals of all time. And this song is one of the reasons .

Do nothing but brood

@@CMinorOp67 When?
Now wait a minute, there were many musicals since the 1920s that were sensational also, Oliver came along around 1960 and it's real good but the others were just as good as well!!!!!
@@maamamamamamama What?
🙂
Weirdly enough recently out of nowhere this song has been playing in my head almost constantly and I had forgotten where I knew it from and stumbled upon it upon watching a trailer on HBO Max
I was 8 when this came out in 1968, and it's true that they used to make us walk in lines and sing for our food a lot more in those days. :-D
This film (this scene in particular) depicts an orphanage in 1837.
@@NickAndTommyFight Absolutely True!!!!!
Actually a workhouse
I once had food poisoning for 9 days and couldn't eat because it would cause me to throw up. My first meal after getting past it was bacon, eggs, and toast with jelly, and I sang this song while I was eating.
Oliver is by far the best male character. so innocent and got such a good ending. he is so kind and likeable.
I'm not laughing because of the song I'm laughing because of their amazing facial expressions X'D
This song still lives rent free in my head 😂😭 #2023
Beautiful.
Every element in this scene is excellent: sets, choreography, costumes, songs, acting. They're all perfectly synchronized. Doubtless "Pink Floyd - The Wall" was inspired by this.
Another brick in the wall for the music video
"We don't need no ejukayshun~ wot we need is… food, glorious food!" I just watched Oliver! for the first time the other night, and I was like 'Why am I seeing Pink Floyd images here…' …then later on, Fagin's street urchin gang look like they could be junior members of The Who…
@@Kowasi This reminds me of Ice age the meltdown.
Oliver film adaptation is a masterpiece. The book influenced Les Miserables - there are many parallels
This may be a silly comment to make, but I want to make it! I recently lost my 18 year old dog, and for 12 years, I played this video for her almost... Every day? She would sit and listen, and woof at the in-di-gestion part every time. So, thank you, for uploading this video so long ago! I had many delightful memories with my dog, thanks to you.
Watching this at school now its stuck in my head
Studied Oliver in English class, and we had the idea of flash-mobbing this song at lunch XD Wish we did it!
of course not! He's a fictional character, but we were reading Oliver Twist (hence me saying "Studied Oliver") that was my mistake, I should've said "We are reading Oliver Twist" or something of that nature. MY BAD! It's all cool bro, have a nice day :)
when i was in primary school we basically did this every day when we walked into the dining hall. but we didnt know all the lyrics so we just sang "food glorious food" over and over again
I'd kill to do that.
Thank god i thought it was a r/thathappened
This is my favorite song from Oliver!

On this day in 1989 {May 15th} composer Johnny Green passed away at the age of 80...
He won four Academy Awards for 'Best Musical Score' {1948 movie "Easter Parade", 1961 film "West Side Story" 1952 movie "An American In Paris", and the 1968 film "Oliver!"}...
May he R.I.P.
Johnny Green was a great arranger of music for films and television, his abilities were above and beyond anyone in music today !!!!!
This song is so wonderfully and thay are did a wonderful job in this movie and wonderfully cast to and this is the best movie ever made.

One of my favorite movie scene
Mr Bumble used to TERRIFY me as a child!
The whole novel of Dickens is terrifying.
Me too! Especially when he sells Oliver
I remember Bill Sykes scared me, such a brutal character, played well by an apparently sober Oliver Reed.
Dan Sharp very few children could say "Mr. Bumble wasn't scary"
the part that scared me was when nancy died-
i was not expecting that
I know I’m really late I’m 10 and I’m playing Oliver so this is why I am watching this 2018
