  • Have you ever wondered how a projector could enhance your cinematography?
    In this episode of B2S, we join DP/Host Kevin Reyes and DP/Co-host Justin Jones as they explore the basics of using a projector as a tool for cinematography. Throughout their experience, they discover the versatility and creative opportunities that a projector can do in order to amplify the look of the piece. Take note as the filmmakers attempt three looks: keying the subject, projecting images on the background of a frame, and placing the projector behind the subject. Each method offers varying styles that can easily adapt to the look you’re after!

      As much money as I've given this company, I feel like aputure can afford a sound engineer, and not have to rely on the intern that was likely used here.

      As a professional sound mixer for 15 years. A lot of producers will skimp on audio the majority of the time. The fix it in post mentality is really bad. But they got a nice projector! 😂

    My first camera was a Canon T2i, I bought it around 2011.
    A year after saving, working very little and learning as much as I could from my colleagues, I saw that I needed a light, I bought the most basic one and the one that was within my reach at that time. A Chinese brand that I won't name, the light had a horrible green tint (I didn't care at the time) but it made me realize how necessary light was for filming and taking photos, having the freedom to light scenes, that I previously discarded for not knowing how to illuminate because I didn't know how to handle myself with only the camera and a slow lens.
    We always believe in our beginnings that the most important thing is the camera, without giving importance to the rest of the equipment and the people who can bring another perspective. Greetings from Uruguay

    My favourite piece is the key to my Studio, knowing that everything that key secures has been saved with hard decisions from my Military War Pension, The Studio is my escape from the World, a place where I can create what I want. I have a huge Mental Wish list, and if I can get at least 10% of what’s on that list, then I’d be a very happy Chap, It’ll be a steep, uphill struggle, but I will get there!

    Question - most of the projectors, especially the low end ones, have flicker or scan lines when you shoot at 180 degree. Does this problem go away once moving to more expensive projectors.
    Did you guys had to change the shutter speed form 180 to get rid of theese problems?
    Also - idea for another episode. Using a projector for virtual production. This would be something a lot of people are going to be very interested in. Keep up the good work!

      Hello, great question. I have been trying to find a solution myself on this. We wanted to use a projected image as a background for an interview. We tried reducing the shutter speed (went down from 1/50 to 1/30), we then tried using a lower aperture to blur the background. The scan lines do become less visible, but they don't go away. Apparently, some projectors have a setting where you can change the refresh rate, for example, 20 to 60 hertz etc.. Any other suggestions would really help.

    • @goldm3chanical
      @goldm3chanical Před rokem

      Look into using a camera with global shutter…depending on what projector/camera combo you are using the banding you might be seeing could be from the slow scan rate from a rolling shutter camera.

    Putting a pro mist filter on the camera to reduce the pixelation of the projected image is an interesting option but have you tried simply putting the pro mist filter on the projector itself?
