This entire scene is perfection. It pays reference to so many greats that came before it, whilst never copying, and always being itself. The camera angles, the choreography, the use of colour and black and white. Just exceptional.
I think this is from a director's cut. Tarantino does a lot of fan service to Kurosawa in this rendition. Great fight scene. Really over the top and revolutionary for it's time but Quentin likes his gore
😂🙈🤣Not to mention, he is spared mercifully on the bottom floor, when he loses his mask. That's why she looks at him like Wtf? Seriously? You again?! You gotta be fkn kidding me!!! Lmao 😂 🤣
What’s incredible about this scene, apart from the seamless blend of styles and influences, is Tarantino took no shortcuts narratively or choreographically. In a lot of movies, sections of fights are left to the imagination of the audience to save time, but not here. All 88 of the Crazy 88 except the boy are shown being taken out in just about every way imaginable l. Just incredible to keep the intensity of the scene consistently high while doing something most directors absolutely could not pull off.
I think gogo was probably one of her fiercest opponents if she wasnt the main character. The sheer mastery and flow with the chained ball was superior to her skills.
Well, when you’ve had to fight in a Battle Royale you learn a lot of stuff (No seriously, the actress who plays Gogo was in Battle Royale and that’s one of Tarantino’s favorite movies; same here; and one he wishes he had a chance to make, so of course she’s gonna go hard)
It is rooted somewhat in reality because samurai used to cut criminals in half just to test their blades. But the criminals were tied down so how much that proved is anyone's guess. Regardless, that belief's been around for decades now. Tarantino imported it from old martial arts movies that made the same claim.
I love how the Bride never gets complacent, even when there are only a few left. Those last ones she fights are still alive and intact, which could reasonably mean they're among the better sword fighters in the Crazy 88. Except for the kid of course, he really needs to just go home to his mother. ;)
In the Japanese cut of the movie; because for whatever reason Japan gets the bloodier and more badass version of the fight; she confronts the kid in all the chaos and when she rips his mask off he does the whole “oh please don’t hurt me” with his hands and she just pushes him away So when she meets him again, about to kill him because it was dark, that’s why she has the look of “Are you fuckin serious!?” then just slices his sword piece by piece and finally gives him a good old fashioned spanking and sparing his life to get away from the yakuza and go home to his mom; which if there is ever a 3rd movie he would definitely be one of her allies and be like “You spared my life and gave me a second chance, now I’ve come to repay that debt”
04:29 The background matches their clothes. Not only color wise, but also to the pattern of their clothes. The Bride's side is orange lighted with blackish bar matching with the black lines on her outfit. And Gogo's side is grey and black with a checkered pattern, just like her skirt. ...Same is also in the Vernita and O-Ren fight scenes.
"Those lucky enough to still have their lives! Take them with you! However, leave the limbs you lost! For they belong to Me Now!" Ten seconds more.... That epic quote Would have sounded better coming from Uma.
What you said made me think about one of Terry Pratchett's sentences, who wrote something in the lines of: "Within all old people, there is a young one asking himself or herself „What happened?„"

Best 2 films to watch after a break up Kill Bill Vol.1 & 2 ✌️😎🤙 all nighter with whiskey and nachos. It has been 8 years now since I last watched them 💃💃💃💃
This was a great series of movies but let's not kid ourselves. I know they are different genres, but pick any single category in the Oscars and compare kill bill 1 and 2 to dune part 1 and 2 in IMAX. Dune destroys simply outclasses it in every way possible. From the music (Hans Zimmer), to cinematography, to the directing, to the acting, to the writing, costumes, etc etc. dune part 1 and 2 simply could not have been made 20 or even 10 years ago. I'm a huge sci Fi fan and I'm relatively. middle aged, I've seen all of the classics, and dune 2 in imax simply just topped them all imo. Heck the series Shogun which also has Japanese themes did Japanese culture so much better than any western attempt before (before that the best would probably be last Samurai), again it came out this year. Its easy to make this "things were so much better back then", but really, they weren't. It's probably because people have short term memory. Again, a different genre, but joker part 2 is coming out soon, and if it's anything like the 1st it will probably blow this 2 parter out of the water as well in so many categories, especially acting. Probably the same goes for mad Max fury road (robbed of best picture imo and came out 12 years after kill bill part 1) and the soon to be released furiosa prequel.
Because before, lightsabers were also katanas But apparently some bright-spark at Disney/Lucasfilm thought that was too real and doesn’t make it seem real…because having a freaking laser-katana that can cut through anything is just a simple scratch….seriously!!?

The black and white was MPAA censorship, it would have been refused classification or given an NC-17 if they left it in color for the theater release.
I always heard he had to switch to black and white during this scene for the censors because it would have shown too much blood lol
Was it black and white in the original version or was that done to not get demonized?
