Just started playing it properly recently as I didn't know how to move around the menu's before, which is by BY USING the "F4" KEY, after loading it using OCULUS VR & not STEAM VR. I've raced the classic Mini which is apparently the most used car in the game, and also driven the Peugeot 205, my favourite so far is the Escort Cosworth on tarmac blasting through the constant 3 left 3 right turns in Spain. Great game but one can get terribly hot and tiresome.
The game is definitely a ton of fun! It has me playing every week to complete events and clubs. I have over 60 hours into it and don't plan on stopping any time soon. Dirt Rally 3.0 better launch with VR support!
@@ThisKory It really is! I love how the difficulty is so high that you get rewarded for just finishing a track. It has certainly peaked my interest and respect for rally racing.
I said "is there a Dirt Rally 2.1?". And no, there's a "Dirt Rally", but not a Dirt Rally 1 or 1.0 (or 1.1 for that matter). Thanks for looking out haha. Someone else also mentioned the homage to Colin McRae Rally, which makes sense. But this has me asking the same question for Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (why 2.0? Why not just 2?). The answer seems to be hidden somewhere deep among the rally devs haha.
Haha oh man I felt the same way when I first played. I smashed into a wall and felt my soul exit my body as I came to a sudden stop. Once you get adjusted to VR smooth locomotion, it's an amazing experience.
Hi Kory! its me LitDabDhruv. Your review was great. I should have probably watched this before i bought the game but luckily the game turned out really well!
I couldn't make it work properly on 3070 with hp reverb g2. And VR makes me feel sick in racing. So I just returned the VR headset. We still need few years to get to the right VR setup.
Dirt Rally 2.0 is definitely a challenge to get solid fps in VR, but it can be done, even if you have to lower all settings completely. Did you try lowering SS? That would surely solve your issue. Sorry you had trouble with motion sickness. VR can be difficult for some who have this issue, but it can be overcome with enough patience and exposure to VR. It took me around 5 months to get over my VR motion sickness, but now I can play anything. VR is definitely ready with the right hardware.
@@ThisKory Thanks for reply, months of training for VR sounds too much for me, and might hurt your health too, I never wear glasses before but if I try this VR for some time I feel like I will need medical glasses. if I pay 1000$ for some hardware I want to be able to use it properly without issues. Also the HP reverb G2 sweet spot is clear in a very small spot in center and blurry all over, this really affects all experience, also very very sensitive to positioning on head. move it 1 mm and all is blurry. I don't know, I'm little disappointed about the HP reverb, it ruined my VR experience.
It is amazing. But man is this game lacking optimization for VR. I have an overclocked 3600x and a 3070 and I have to set my WMR headset to 70-75% resolution scale in OpenXR to play with shaders on high and basically everything else on low. Really hope DR3 has much better optimization for VR as other than that, it's my favourite game to play in VR.
Really? I have a 9700K with a 2080 Super and use an Index HMD. I can play the game on low/medium settings at 100% SS without many issues. I get the occasional FPS drop through the New Zealand map like I mentioned, but all other maps are buttery smooth. A 3070 is basically the same thing (if not slightly better) that a 2080 Super, too. Either way, I agree, and hope DR3 is built with VR in mind with actual VR menus and better performance. WRC also needs to get into the VR realm, what are they doing.. Ugh.
@@ThisKory Yeah, constant stuttering if I try bring the settings up from there. All other VR games are fine on high/medium settings. I wonder if this game just isn't optimised well for WMR?
@@GarageRecordings I know this comment is old, I just wanted to say maybe there's a driver level issue with your game. I have a R53600 paired with a Red Devil 5700XT and can run this game the High settings and 194% Super sampling in the steam VR menu. Not sure whats up the your experience but it's one of the best optimized games I own on PC
Absolutely! If you have the T300, there are a couple things you should do. 1. Turn on the fan so it's always running. Apparently the T300 can get warm and overheat, which causes less force feedback. To ensure things stay cool, you can change the fan settings to stay on all the time. With this enabled, the only way to turn the fan off is to unplug the USB (no big deal). To turn on the fan so it's always on, press and hold the "Mode" button on the base and the "ST" button on the wheel. The fan should turn on and stay running to keep things cool. 2. Make sure to download the Thrustmaster software and update firmware. In the Thrustmaster application you can adjust force feedback sensitivity overall for the wheel. Most people seem to put theirs around 70%, which should also increase the life of the belts since they won't be working as hard. Then you can make finer adjustments in-game in the settings. If you did these in order and updated firmware, you might have to do step 1 again if things were reset to default after the firmware update. So maybe do step 2 first. Hope this helps! Enjoy your new wheel, they are fantastic!
Dude I'm literally debating getting the EXACT wheel and setup and found this video. I haven't really played many racing games in years but VR has blown my mind so this really seems like it could be SUPER fun.
Aww you're in for a treat! VR driving games are amazing, and the immersion is amplified tenfold with a wheel and pedals. I spent more money than I'm happy to admit on sim-racing gear in the past year haha. You'll have a blast!
Would you recommend someone who loves VR grab this on sale even if they don't have a wheel, or is it not worth it without the wheel at all? I've wanted to find a good VR racing game to play before I make the investment in a wheel.
I run this game with a 9700k, 32gb 3600mhz ram, ssd install, and a gtx1080, rift s and logitech g920. gpu really struggles to hold a good framerate on the high shader, problem is, low looks terrible and you completely loose the rain effect. I understand a new gpu is in order, but any specific settings that really effect framerate that I can lower, so I can set shaders to high? Love the video, subbed
Hey Jared, unfortunately shaders is going to be the main component which affects framerate. Turning shaders low will remove the rain effects like you said, but it's the compromise made to get a stable framerate. You can also try putting shaders on high and everything else on low/off and see if that works for you, but you'll struggle either way with a 1080 I think. I started with a 1070 in VR, then upgraded to a 2080 Super which was a massive difference, and now I have a 3080. Some VR games require a lot to run. Hopefully Dirt Rally 3.0 will have much better VR optimization. Thanks for the sub!
During the time of this review I think I was using a 2080 Super with a 9700K. Upgrade whatever is bottlenecked. Both pieces of hardware are quite dated, so you'll have to upgrade both at some point, otherwise if you upgrade one or the other, you're going to be bottlenecked even further. A GPU first would be my approach, but you'd have to see where you are bottlenecked based on what games you want to play.
I would definitely give Dirt Rally 2.0 a shot. I've never played the first game, but I've read that DR2 has much better physics and effects, and also plays better in VR. If you do decide to get DR2, definitely make sure to get the GotY Edition. It goes on sale for like $7-$10 several times per year.
@@jamesfranko5098 Thanks. Yeah I finally bought it. It does feel a little better when the car has less traction. I'm salty as hell though because I didn't know the snow levels were DLC and I should have just bought the game of the year edition. You live and you learn. Still seems like a pretty weak move by codemasters
It looks great in video, and amazing game to play, I'm addicted, but I've just tried DR2 in Quest 3 pc vr, somethings really off with the depth man, I'm flat out in 5th gear and it looks like I'm going 10mph? What is with that? Everything is squashed, like 1 mile is squashed down into 100 meters or something 😂, not impressed
You obviously have an issue with the way your perspective is setup in-game. I wouldn't know how to help unfortunately, as I don't use my Quest 3 to play sims. Have you tried doing a Google search for your issue? I am curious how you can resolve the issue, as this isn't normal and definitely something that can be resolved.
I have a 9700K (stock clocks) and a 3080. I get a stable 90fps on medium settings. Dirt Rally 2.0 is tough to run in VR, and requires settings to be turned down. It sounds like you're getting reprojection, so you need to turn something down, whether it's headset Hz, graphics, or super sampling.
Ah unfortunately I believe it doesn't have proper VR support and you can only play "in VR" looking at a flat screen in front of you, just like you would with a monitor, so it's not a fully immersive experience on the PS5. That being said, GT7 has proper VR support, but I know nothing about the PSVR side of things, so I am not sure if you need PSVR2 or what. If you are really into sim-racing and have the budget for it, I would highly consider a PC setup for it, as most good sim titles are on PC, and PCVR is a much better experience for sim racing with much more to offer.
My only issue with the game is that for some reason my pc has a driver issue or something so if I have both my steering wheel (which acts like an Xbox controller) and by rift plugged in it'll reload my desktop and freak out if I click with my mouse and sometimes bluescreen but overall the game is absolutely amazing and it's just an issue with my pc
Awsome! you got a new subscriber ! Thanks a lot for this deep review, I just got my quest 2 and the game is on sales on steam ^^ as asseto corsa and project cars 2 ^^ !

Hi, im plaIng dr2 in vr with quest2 too, did anyone find out how to solve the bug, which causes the road and everything in front of the car to become one big blur at some times, and the game looking perfectly fine at other times? Thx
I'd love to help, but I haven't personally experienced this issue. Have you tried doing a Google search? It seems like an LOD issue which might be lowering resolution to preserve adequate framerate, but I could be wrong. Have you tried lowering graphic settings? Putting Shader Detail to Low will make the game less pretty, but it helps significantly with performance.
@@ThisKory yes , i tried lowering/changing everything. Yes, it looks like the game is changing its lod/res. Interestingly i found out, that there is a line in the config file named autoRes or something similar, so i will try changing it to false and see. But interestignly enough, nobody ever mentions this setting, when you google search it (some people mention this blur problem, but i never saw any solution).
As far as I'm aware, Dirt Rally 2.0 is one of the most realistic rally sims on the market, maybe Richard Burns Rally competes in some way, but I haven't played that. AC and iRacing are primarily tarmac sims, and I don't think the dirt physics come close to what Dirt Rally offers.
Yeah Dirt Rally 2.0 is pretty demanding. I had a 2080 Super at the time of this video. Now I have a 3080 and (finally) overclocked my 9700K CPU to 4.9Ghz, which made a massive difference in games like iRacing. A 1080Ti is great, but it'll show its age when you run some VR games.
@@ThisKory i have this rog since 2017. It definitely has gone through its paces. I didnt think that it would come so quick though. VR is starting to get AAA releases like Dirt Rally 2.0 but it now requires the power of generations above 1080 series to run it properly. Dropping $3500 to $4000 on a 30 or 40 series rig just doesnt seem to make sense money wise just to play the same game I can play on PS5 on VR
@@meejmuas8686 Your 1080 Ti can run DR2.0 fine, but you'll need to make compromises to graphical fidelity. 30XX series cards are definitely not anywhere near $3,000, so that's a bit dramatic. The market changed recently for GPU's, and you can get a 3080 for $750-$800. VR is more demanding, so that's why your 1080 Ti is struggling a bit. As far as graphic settings for DR2.0, the single setting you should change to get much better performance is setting your Shader Detail to Low. There are other racing sims which run much better in VR. AMS2 is pretty easy to run, try that one out! Unfortunately, DR2.0 struggles with lesser hardware.
@@ThisKory this build I had in mind, with monitors is around $4000 including tax. Nvidia 4090, AMD Ryzen 7 583xd. Playing Dr2.0 is still fine on VR low. The one game isnt going to compel me to spend that much yet. It's not good enough reason yet to justify the purchase. Will wait until VR goes gets there first
Yeah it goes on sale during every major Steam sale event. However, I would highly recommend buying the GotY edition for a few bucks more. I made the mistake of buying the $5 standard version, and later bought the GotY edition anyway since buying the DLC tracks/cars separate end up costing a lot more.
I'd definitely recommend buying the GotY edition for a few dollars more. It includes all of the DLC, and it's way cheaper than buying the maps and cars separately. You'll also see DR2.0 during pretty much every sale, so if you miss this one, it'll be on sale again in a couple months.
PSVR 2 will change things since it'll run on the PS5 hardware. Until then, patience my friend. DR 2.0 is really tough to run well in VR, even on PC. I have a 3080 now and still struggle in some areas. I try to play on the highest settings I can though, and I am using a higher res headset (Index), so it's pretty taxing on hardware. With the PS5, hardware shouldn't be too much of an issue. It'll just have to be dumbed down a bit graphically, but it would be able to run it. If there are solid exclusive titles for PS5 in VR, then I might finally have to buy a PlayStation for once!
I just picked up dirt 2.0 and paired it with my Samsung odyssey+. I find that it’s blurry and nothing is crisp. Even if I have ultra settings on the picture is like a painting that has had water sprayed on it. I find it odd since assetto corsa and iracing are both crisp and clear. Any recommendations? Or is this because it’s not optimized for WMR and more for oculus?
I'd love to help, but I am no use. I use a Valve Index and it looks as clear as any other VR game. However, I did have a single time where things got blurry for me when I was adjusting my graphic settings. Try putting everything on low graphic settings and see if this fixes it. I know this seems counter intuitive, but maybe the game reduces SS to compensate for higher graphic settings, so lowering them may help. I'm curious if this will help your situation. Otherwise, Google is your friend. I'd love to know if you find a solution, either way.
If by "cheap" you mean it's only $5 when it goes on sale on Steam, then yes! It goes on sale a few times a year at this price, and it's definitely worth it for $5. I'd highly recommend getting the Game of the Year Edition for a few bucks more though, as it has all of the DLC, which you will definitely want to have.
I made a video comparing racing in VR to a flat screen monitor. Check it out! 😃

I thought dirt rally was far more realistic than AC or IR in the dirt?
As far as I'm aware, Dirt Rally 2.0 is one of the most realistic rally sims on the market, maybe Richard Burns Rally competes in some way, but I haven't played that.
AC and iRacing are primarily tarmac sims, and I don't think the dirt physics come close to what Dirt Rally offers.
I would play racing games, but is suck at steering with a joystick lol
This is a perfect excuse to invest in a racing wheel ;)
@@ThisKory 100%.
This is a great review!
This is great to hear, thank you so much for your kind words! ❤
Question: I consider buying a VR headset as I struggle to concentrate in the stages and I crash a lot. Can it help?
VR is so much more immersive that it will definitely help you focus more. I know a couple people who became faster once they started playing in VR.
@@ThisKory Great to know. Will try to find a way
What's your computer rig? I have a 1080ti and on Asetto Corsa Competition, I have to put it on VR low to make the frame rates work
Yeah Dirt Rally 2.0 is pretty demanding.
Will wait until VR goes gets there first
It’s currently 5 bucks on steam
Yeah it goes on sale during every major Steam sale event. However, I would highly recommend buying the GotY edition for a few bucks more. I made the mistake of buying the $5 standard version, and later bought the GotY edition anyway since buying the DLC tracks/cars separate end up costing a lot more.
8/23/22.. its $4.99 on steam..
I'd definitely recommend buying the GotY edition for a few dollars more. It includes all of the DLC, and it's way cheaper than buying the maps and cars separately. You'll also see DR2.0 during pretty much every sale, so if you miss this one, it'll be on sale again in a couple months.
Great video!
Thank you!
I hate how psvr doesnt get anything good it would be amazing if this was psvr
PSVR 2 will change things since it'll run on the PS5 hardware. Until then, patience my friend.
DR 2.0 is really tough to run well in VR, even on PC. I have a 3080 now and still struggle in some areas. I try to play on the highest settings I can though, and I am using a higher res headset (Index), so it's pretty taxing on hardware. With the PS5, hardware shouldn't be too much of an issue. It'll just have to be dumbed down a bit graphically, but it would be able to run it.
If there are solid exclusive titles for PS5 in VR, then I might finally have to buy a PlayStation for once!
nicee
Nice
I just bought the game and its still downloading, i got the same wmr headset as you, is it still bad?
A fiver on steam for 2 weeks
Totally worth! Make sure to get the GotY Edition.
You sound like ChrisFix lol
Thanks! I'll take that as a compliment, that guys a legend on CZcams. So many helpful videos.
Argentina is not a fun map
Edit: Gotten better it’s a challenge and a bit more fun.
Haha I can agree. It has very tight corners which you cannot see through. Definitely challenging!
Yes it's a really cheap game.
