    Oh I just luvvvvvvvvvvvvv this piece of music, and the rendering is absolutely exquisite. As an oboist I really love the oboe section, which instrument I have a sneaking suspicion was close to Strauss' heart. I had a flute player who used to send me sidelong glances like this one is doing, if she's critical of him I can't imagine why, their intonation is fabulous and the subtlety a delight 🙂

    I don't understand why in the arrangement the voices of the singers were not included somehow (when they are not doubled in the original, of course). I love the trio so much that I can tell when there is a voice missing and it feels like a karaoke. Thankfully it's only a couple of moments where it's truly noticeable. But I just wonder: was is so difficult to reorchestrate it? (I read it wasn't Strauss who put the suite together, and I'm so sure he would have done something else with the orchestration that it makes me sad). Amazing performance this one though! 💪

    • @allenhuug8650
      @allenhuug8650 Před 4 lety

      I felt the same when I heard it for the 1st time many years ago. But now I think that the orchestra version has its own flow of music which is different to the original trio version, it's different but its simplicity with no distraction has a more powerful rendering musically. for instance passage from 18:55 to 20:15 and the impressive legato at the end.
      Don't want to draw a conclusion here which is better but they are both beautiful in their own ways.

    • @notefunctioncollapse
      @notefunctioncollapse Před 4 lety

      @@allenhuug8650 of course, it is totally different and I also really like it with just orchestra, especially because it takes 3 amazing singers for this section to be successful, and it's not always the case. But I didn't mean that I miss the actual physical voices of singers taking part in this version. What I miss is their melodic lines, as they were composed, which ARE indeed perfect and what I find a pity is that there are moments in which those notes are not even to be heard in this orchestral arrangement, they get totally lost in this version. Any original voice line that didn't have a doubling instrument: lost! I'm sure they could have been played by anyone. A very clear example is the chord at 17:43, one of the singers (I think Octavian) sings the 9th of the chord which actually changes it's sonority quite a lot. But here this note is not played by anyone... so it's actually a different chord 😭 Anyway! I feel we both have got each other's point hehe
