[MWC 2024 ROUND-UP]
How many ways can you fold a phone? Are Google smartwatches poised for a comeback? Is it time to reconsider modular accessories? And … do you even need a phone anymore?
I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve spent a week in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress 2024 with all the new mobile devices trying to answer those questions!

I have a feeling, that Lenovo (and Motorola) are going with Aperture Science philosophy. They're not asking "Why?", they're asking "Why not? Why shouldn't we make this?"
Works for me!
@@TheMrMobile Yeah, it's fun
"Why are most of our products so strange? Why not marry industry standards if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent an industry standard door that won't hit you on the butt on your way out? Because YOU ARE FIRED! Not you, Mr. Fisher, you're doing fine. Yes. You. Box your stuff! Out the front door! Parking lot. Car. Goodbye!"
@@TheMrMobile We do what we must because we can. For the good of all of us (except the ones who are dead).
So did the makers of Hypercolor t-shirts, wrist snap bracelets and fidget spinners, to name relevant examples. They're selling to fad buyers.
I think something everyone should always remember is technology can be impressive and useless at the same time. There is a ton of stuff here most people will never use
1:38 oh damn. It's like that kickstarter scam but they actually made it.
Something something if they could, something something if they *should*
the cicrit bracelet, i remember that trash lmao
Hi Michael,
Appreciate your clear, direct and comprehensive disclosures. I am pretty sure other reviewers got free food and drinks from HMD etc. but did not disclose it. In their defense this may be irrelevant but appreciate your extra effort in this direction.
Cheers!
10:23 😂😂 your edits are a delight 😂
11:30 the ball bouncing thing! I did something pretty much identical in highschool, about 10 years ago. We used Arduinos for the balancing part, and a Kinect for the vision part.
That AI thing is a gimmick.
Agreed
My first thought was "Why?"
Who would want that thing? Did they do any market research at all outside of fresh out of MBA school dudes who greenlight anything with the letters AI in it?
Tech has peaked 🤡
"Ayo lemme project the time onto my hand"
That’s wasn’t the first one I’ve seen they’re trying to create a market for these things.
I would love to see a video on the privacy focused operating systems they showcased
It's probably Linux OSes
Edit: developed for mobile usage
Agreed. Especially if they’re big enough to be at MWC.
Most people would not. Limited features, constant popups, and a limited App Store are not appealing.
once you sign into google or ms services on those phones does the privacy thing still work? @@AtillatheFun
The phone you saw for a second is the Punkt MC02 a $750 (+$17 per month after the trial ends or else you don't get to use the included apps) phone running the mid range Dimensity 900. It just runs modified android, a fork of grapheneos to be exact. If you want a privacy focused phone ironically google is your best bet, that + grapheneos gives you the best camera, good performance, and since prices for pixels drop like bricks a better deal. the best thing I can say about the punkt phone is that it has a headphone jack and microSD
I love that Motorola trying to fill the shoes of LG with crazy and exciting ideas
Would definitely like to see a full review for the OnePlus Watch, especially since you use Garmins and other fancier options so much.
Yes please on the OnePlus watch 2 review. Keep it up Mr Mobile!
HMD fusion could actually work. Their interface is super simple (it's just USB2 and an ADC pin), which makes it really simple to implement anything on it.
Kinda bummed that I already bought a new phone this year, otherwise I probably would have started developing a side-slider version of my Fairberry keyboard attachment for this phone.
Thanks Michael!!
Always informative and entertaining content!!!
10:24 *Prowler horn plays*
Absolutely. Need a full review of the one plus watch
What the developers at humane should do is to keep the AI Pin concept alive and pair it with AR glasses. This would totally revolutionize our smartphone experience. Picture this: when you want an immersive experience, you pop on the AR glasses, seamlessly integrating your digital world with the real one. But when you want a more traditional experience, just take off the glasses and use the AI Pin independently. It's like having the best of both worlds
And let's talk about those AR glasses - with powerful built-in cameras for capturing memories and collaborating with the AI Pin for hand tracking, it's a game-changer. Plus, imagine a dimming feature right in the glasses for added convenience. This is not just the future of smartphones; it's a whole new era of tech that's both exciting and practical. I think this will make the AI pin a little bit more appealing .
LOL at 10:24 the small shade at JerryRig😂
Zack to Michael’s Razr 5G: Glass is glass, and glass breaks
That guy is such a creep!
@@MichaelRichards983Uh, no. You don't go around calling people creeps for no reason. Zack especially isn't a creep whatsoever.
@@kadrix732 You don't think he looks like a funkin' creep? Keep your kids away....
@@MichaelRichards983every accusation is an admission
The only Moto module I don't own is the Hasselblad one, since that was like $250 and near impossible to find. I do have the projector one and the 360 one.
Awesome! The quality of your videos makes each upload a must watch!
01:18 That's Pam
Yes for the ONE PLUS WATCH 2 and pls try and review ar glasses too
Great video as always. Also, I respect the full transparency of even the companies that provided food and drink during your travels and not just the ones you're financially involved with or provided funding. Tip of the hat. 🤠
The Motorola inverse screen bend is more fascinating to me not because of the screen, but it's more of the inside that is more interesting. It shows that they have really flexible motherboard and battery and no bound to rigid designs.
we need that One Plus Watch review, a nice Collab with The Unlockr would be cool
Hi Miriam! 🙂
Dang, I'm excited for HMD's plans. Now to see a proper reboot of the Moto Z!
The general design of the concept notebook reminds me a lot of the Dell Adamo from 2009.
The nod to Zack killed me. 😂
PLEASE do a review of the Oneplus Watch 2! I've been wanting to switch to Android from iOS but the one thing holding me back is the android watches. This new watch looks promising!
00:28
robot push up😂
...and never change, Mr. Mobile!
10:22 - 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Are you watching Zack? 😉
😎🇬🇧
Need a dedicated video on OP watch 2 , waiting for your review since it's announcement!!
I love these videos, I hope to go to MWC one day soon
Yes Michael! Please do a review on the one plus watch 2!
06:00 They could have atleast used Mediatek Dimensity 6100+ which is cheapest 5G processor offered by Mediatek. ( I don't understand why they choose decade old 4G compatibility only.)
These mwc episodes should be at least half an hour each!
The Motorola phone concept as a bracelet looks amazing when worn. I would totally wear a smart-bracelet over a smart-watch any day, and I say that as a GW6 user.
I’m down to see a review of the One+ watch 2! Great video 💪
Yes, OP Watch 2 review, pls, Michael!
Ok iv changed my mind on the ai pin. It’s too expensive but I would love a ruggedised version to take skateboarding/mountain biking.
Similar to using a smart watch to do the same thing however the addition of the projector so I can watch videos/tutorial’s, and also so I have a camera I can use to quickly record myself and review how I’m doing.
4:24 stole the whole show with those glasses.
Rollable Screen is the Future!!! So Excited for Rollable Tablet in the Next Generation!!! Yay 💖😍💝
Nice video as always. Maybe not as thorough as other years but still, always nice to see your perfectly edited and narrated actually HD videos 😊
Love to see a review on the OnePlus watch ! Great coverage on MWC btw, interesting stuff this year! Im actually pretty excited for HMD to get into the scene as a house brand. The modular concept is something I loved from my LG G5
"Some deranged phone torturer" 🤣
9:23 it's valid to notice that even high end devices like Michael Fisher's at this mentioned moment, when using the front facing camera for video, completely ignores the polarity of the referred camera, when it comes to audio. Inverting left and right, channel sounds.
I cannot wait to see the retrospectives on what a swindle the AI pin ended up being.
Love the Winnebago man reference
I wasn't expecting that Jumpscare
Would love a OnePlus Wearable Review! Thanks 👍🏻
Darn it. I wanted to go to a tech event like this, but my vacation to Spain isn't until the end of next month.
The subliminal flash to Zach was amazing!
Great video. Always fun to see what's coming, and what probably never will. Would like to see a full review of the One Plus Watch 2.
Never change, Mr. Mobile!
00:33 Humane Ai Pin should use moterized projector array so it can lock on to say a slab of glass or plastic
i'd love a mrmobile oneplus watch2 review.
I'd love a Mr Mobile OnePlus 12 review
I just thought of a use for a transparent display it would be perfect for business to monitor employees atleast from a marketing perspective
The most relevant video for MWC 2024 😎
@ 10:24 that's savage 😂😂😂😂😂..... Jerry slander is highly welcomed 😂😂😂😂
Just a little light-hearted shoutout. Nothing but love for my man Z
Please review the OnePlus Watch 2. Would love to see how the hybrid OS/chip design works in the real world
I’m pretty sure all of us noticed you take that shot at Zack 😂😂😂
interesting to look at the future tech, even though i can't be sure it even comes to my country, let alone buying it
I absolutely would like to see a full review of the One Plus watch.
a slider version of clicks in landscape would be sweet 👌
If you don't mind a 2 centimeters thick phone
exactly@@21by9! It would an alternative to the additional height in the current iteration
Innovation in mobile devices never fails to disappoint
would love your take on the oneplus watch 2...specifically, how does it stack up against the pixel watch 2
I’ve reserved my clicks keyboard today. I can’t wait to purchase it as I’ve been looking for a product exactly like it since I purchased my iPhone eight months ago.
Love your vids
I want that ai pin to keep evolving
its so cool!
How can I get my hands on these concept devices..?
If you plan to review the ai pin than you should definitely also review PhoneCam - a $70 body camera with AI - and compare it to the ai pin.
Gonna be honest, the bendy phone by Motorola is cool and all but the Rizr revival prototype from last year is more interesting to me.
After buying the OnePlus open I'd love to see a review of the watch :)
Tbh, the idea of having a wrist phone with fitness tracking sensors seems pretty cool. 🥺 Could have a sports mode or something where it switches to track vitals only when a someone's working out... Just slap your phone on your wrist and you don't need a smartwatch anymore! 😬
Dear Michael, thank you for covering the event for us. I clearly would like to see a review of the oneplus watch. And oh… maybe with foldables phones would become fun again.
E-ink Display Behind Transparent Display would make a great laptop for eyestrain less work flow.
9:16 ah another soulless rolling iPad! At least the front looks good.
Dedicated review for the watch please! 🙏
Did you try tje nubia z50s pro or nubia z60 ultra?
That humane ai pin is super sketchy. There was a big controversy when it was announced online about how a lot of the information it displayed was blatantly false/incorrect. Sure, that happens with AI, but I don't know if I trust a company that can't fact check their own advertisement before posting it with my data, much less a battery cell on my chest.
I asked about that; apparently the launch video was created from multiple cuts and the end result gives the impression it's less reliable than it is. Now, I realize that sounds like covering their ass, and it well might be, but it came from one of the software engineers (not the PR team) and sounded credible when she explained it. Will explore this more when I cover it with a dedicated video.
HMD's approach is reminiscent of the Handspring Springboard from the early 00s.
the best way to go FOR THE "MODS" according to me are the MAGNETIC POGO PINS WHICH COULD FAST CHARGE THE DEVICE OR GIVE FUNCTIONALITY LIKE IT WAS A PART OF THE PHONE
Yes, please review the OnePlus Watch 2. My Fossil Gen5 is on its last legs.
I can't stop reading HMD's logo as HvD
The ai pin is surprisingly neat, but I cant picture a scenario where it does anything better than just having a phone.
I need a video for the Oppo glasses
For 2024, I’d like to see an updated Star Trek nerdy b-roll shot!
So excited for this! I have been waiting patiently as people have dropped their honor magic 6 reviews, which are enjoyable, but I have been giddy knowing you'd show us the smaller gems 😊
Yes please to a full review of OnePlus Watch 2
i speak for everyone when I say we don't
@@fiscalizacaoletterboxd why?
I want to watch it too. I'm in the market for a WearOS smartwatch and more options are always welcome!
@@pAirA_ I'm in the same boat. My Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle is overdue to be replaced. I did really enjoy that watch, but the battery life is down to 14 hours a day before a recharge is needed.
I'm curious to see how OnePlus differentiates itself from Google and Samsung in regards to smart watches. I do like some of the Samsung watches, but I get the impression that you need to have Samsung phones to get the full effect.
can you cover TCL 50 series nxtpaper phones?
Can you do a review on the Xperia play
I would love to see a oneplus watch review from the smartwatch king himself 👑
Oh I see that AI pin in the future, not on peoples. ...On a random video on youtube about failed products. :D
Review the 1+ watch, please!
All I want is a Blackberry Classic with modern internals and a capacitive touch keyboard.
11:39 I never knew SurfShark was based in the Netherlands.
Didn't Pranav Mistry implemented the same thing about a decade ago ?
Nubia Flip 5G looks a bit too similar to the Tecno Phantom V Flip which has Dimensity 8050. In my country it is available for around 450-500$.
My day is complete
